I want to buy a whisky for a mate, who appears utterly content with Jameson. Now I am no booze snob and will happily drink Jameson or even Bells without complaint, but I have also discovered that I really like decent stuff too and I think I could help him to realise that there is more to life than he realises.
So what should he drink next after years of acclimatising his palate to Jameson?
(PS nothing smokey)

Something like a Dalwhinnie
Very smooth, not too extreme.

There is also a lot of good info on the Loch Fyne website.

1990 balblair is awesome or a 12yr old dalmore dalmore is a nice dram for sensible money

Redbreast is a good idea for someone who likes Jameson's. It has won loads of awards and if you check the supermarkets you can usually pick up a bottle for around £35.

Can't go wrong with a GlenLivet. Smooth and easy drinking and there are bike trails there too!

If you have a booths or waitrose near by Tamdhu is a wonderful whisky and under £35 it has the faintest peat finish but after lots of sweetness

I'd recommend anything from the Speyside area, a lot of them are lighter and most of them lack the smokey/peaty flavour that can put some first-timers off.

Perhaps something like an Aberlour 12 would suit? Normally available for £35.

Dalwhinnie (15) and Glenlivet (12 or 18) are also good recommendations from same area.

I'm, with your mate, don't like smokey whisky, therefore if I drink whiskey I drink Irish, Bushmills single malt.

Highland park, glenlivet or monkey shoulder if you fancy a nice blend.

Highland Park

... is the right answer, it's about the closest to Jamie's I can think of off the top of my head, and won't leave you with a sharp stabbing pain in the wallet.

Might like a Jura also; Superstition (Jura's happy accident) is in the same ballpark.
