Frank Zappa - [url=

in Easter Hay, from Joe's Garage, or the live version of [url=

from the 'You can't do that on stage anymore' sampler are my current favourites.

Anything played by Lowell George from Little Feat, but 'Fat man in the bathtub' is spot on.

'Ricky don't loose that number' by Steely Dan is a cracker too.

Spotify is ace but some great stuff missing. EG Budgie - Napolean Bonaparts I & II are ace, bass overload on every speaker I have ever had.

YYZ - Rush.

Astronomy - Blue Oyster Cult original or Metallica.

White Room - Cream.

have fun and rock on!

Try 'Goin back home' by Dr Feelgood from the Malpractice album - genius.

'I Never Glid Before' by Gong from the Angels Egg album is another classic - Steve Hillage's best solo IMHO.

It Hurt me too by Savoy Brown. The most overblown but heartfelt guitar solo in the world. Ever. It WILL make you screw your face up and getcha air guitar out, I promise.

Oh, and The Audience is Listening by Steve Vai if you really want to RAAAAAWK out.

Dr Feelgood? Blimey, that really takes me back ... to a sweaty pub in Eastcote possibly ... and knowing that you were seeing a pretty special band. Daren't think about the year, 1974 perhaps?

Check out 4 Way Street, a live album by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. On CD2 is some really good guitar stuff. Boy, does Neil Young know about riffs 8)

Also, do not forget the late Stevie Ray Vaughan!

I love guitarists 🙂

Sorry but just don't "get" Floyd. I've seen them a few times, even saw the premiere of Dark Side of the Moon at Wembley in, er, the 1970's sometime.

Thin Lizzy - Emerald - real mob marching over the hill, you can almost see them coming.

Intro of Xanadu - Rush again, sorry.

Try some Yes - Steve Howe is an amazing jazz (IMHO) guitar man. Roundabout try, I think. Bit drunk so memory function is abit all over the place so may not actually pin the tracks on the head that I want.

"Neil and Jack and Me" - King Crimson - Beat album I think or maybe Three of a Perfect Pair.

Crimson again - All of Red album - especially "Starless and Bible Black" and "One More Red Nightmare"

Brain is seizing up totally now, much too late and drunk for coherent thought. Hope that you can keep it rockin!

Ooh - try some Lone Star (not the C&W act), a 70's rock band, pre UFO and others. Albums are "Lone Star" and "Firing on all six". Track that comes to mind is "The Ballad of Crafty Jack" off the latter and "The Bells of Berlin" also off the latter.

Lone Star aren't on Spot but can find a couple on Youtube. Bells of Berlin, Lonely Soldier and From all of us to all of you.

Give em a go. Esp the 1st and 3rd tracks.

Not obvious to some people, but for me when I think of soulful I think of most any Peter Green and Fleetwood Mac performance:

Need your Love So Bad:

World keep on turning:

but for sheer technical brilliance way before his time see Jose feliciano:

Hey Jude:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkUbeSW5ya0 (from 3:21 to 7:05) make shivers go down my spine

Malaguena:

Try "Sloe Gin" by Joe Bonamassa. Loud. Utterly sublime.

Joe Bonamassa again...

'Reconsider Baby', from the album Had to Cry Today.

Alternatively, Rory Gallagher's 'A Million Miles Away' from the album, Irish Tour. Or Free's 'Mr. Big' from Free Live.

Stevie Ray Vaughan's Little Wing - just fabulous. Powerful but delicate, surging emotion. Definitive, for me.

Little Caesar were a class '80's / '90s rock band, esp. this album;

[img] [/img]

Good songs here, but the cover version of 'I Wish It Would Rain' (NOT of the Phil Collins song) has an immense solo on it, guitarist called himself Apache & left after this album.
Unfortunately I can't search for it here at work ( 🙄 ), but definitely worth a listen if you like to make devil-horn hand gestures!

turn the lights off, find this track and turn it right up:

john butler trio: ocean

12 minutes of awesomeness 8)

in fact, anything off his first album ('john butler') is pretty much spot on for soulful guitar solo's and fingerpicking style.

I agree with Gary_C in that it HAS to comfortably numb and I also agree with Norfolk-In-Chance in that it HAS to be Live

BUT... not from the pulse tour... it has to be from the "Delicate Sound of Thunder" live album

Which also includes many other great solos, you should buy it now...

The Damned 'Smash It Up'

eh? great song(s) yes, but blistering soulful guitar solo?

ahhh... think 'Smash it up' part 1... the just the guitar and bass playing together to begin with, later joined by the drums...

Part 2 kicks in when Mr. Vanian screams 'smash it up!'

Sympathy for the devil, the live version from get your ya ya's out. Too many by Neil Young but the Weld album is a good place to start as I think he's better when he's live. Marc Ford when he was with the Black Crowes. Pretty much anything from the second album but Wiser Time from Amorica is my favourite. Can't beat a bit of slide.

Allman Brothers - In Memory of Elizabeth Reed from the Filmore Concerts cd.

People have already mentioned them but Sorrow and Comfortably Numb from Delicate Sound of Thunder are stunning.

Also, for sheer mind-blowingness Stevie Ray Vaughan - Rude Mood.
Pretty much anything played by Randy Rhoads but in particular from the live Tribute album: Mister Crowley; Children of the Grave; Revelation (Mother Earth)

Metallica: Fade to Black; Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
Eagles: Hotel California
Iron Maiden: Powerslave
Pantera: Cemetary Gates
