Frank Zappa - [url=
in Easter Hay, from Joe's Garage, or the live version of [url=
from the 'You can't do that on stage anymore' sampler are my current favourites.
Anything played by Lowell George from Little Feat, but 'Fat man in the bathtub' is spot on.
'Ricky don't loose that number' by Steely Dan is a cracker too.
Highway star solo, on the made in japan album.

Spotify is ace but some great stuff missing. EG Budgie - Napolean Bonaparts I & II are ace, bass overload on every speaker I have ever had.
YYZ - Rush.
Astronomy - Blue Oyster Cult original or Metallica.
White Room - Cream.
have fun and rock on!
ooft cant believe I didn't think of comfortably numb... Anyone catch it when they did it at live 8? Waters' voice was ****ed but those solos!
Funkadelic - Maggotbrain
Eddie Hazel recorded it in one take.
all queued...freakin awesome so far...almost didnt hear the phone ring 😆

so good to hear music with emotion...dire straits at the minute. 5*
Check out Dream Theater, John Petrucci has immense technical skills, but also plays with feeeling
Try Dinosaur jr
A few tracks
Raisans
Get Me
Start Choppin
Just a few to get you started with!
Gary Moore.
Aynsley Lister.
Not forgetting Hendrix.
Guns n roses - Sweet child o mine. Dont even like them as a band and that song is pretty **** but the guitar solo is class
Neil Young - Cowgirl in the Sand is a guitar masterpiece
Try 'Goin back home' by Dr Feelgood from the Malpractice album - genius.
'I Never Glid Before' by Gong from the Angels Egg album is another classic - Steve Hillage's best solo IMHO.
very obscure this but....
mike walker's solo on 'A month in tunisia' by Julian Argulles
wow never knew deep purple where soulful...sadly all i had heard of them is smoke on the water.
thanks for the recommendations everyone 😀
It Hurt me too by Savoy Brown. The most overblown but heartfelt guitar solo in the world. Ever. It WILL make you screw your face up and getcha air guitar out, I promise.
Oh, and The Audience is Listening by Steve Vai if you really want to RAAAAAWK out.
Dr Feelgood? Blimey, that really takes me back ... to a sweaty pub in Eastcote possibly ... and knowing that you were seeing a pretty special band. Daren't think about the year, 1974 perhaps?
[url=
is good
Of course the late Lee Brilleaux was on vocals 🙂
Pub rock was where it was at 8)
Check out 4 Way Street, a live album by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. On CD2 is some really good guitar stuff. Boy, does Neil Young know about riffs 8)
Also, do not forget the late Stevie Ray Vaughan!
I love guitarists 🙂
The Damned 'Smash It Up'
eh? great song(s) yes, but blistering soulful guitar solo?

this is pretty good when Wayne Hussey really lets rip 3min20sec in
😯
pink floyd-comfortably numb 😯
more like that please!
adding all your posts to the queue 😀
Sorry but just don't "get" Floyd. I've seen them a few times, even saw the premiere of Dark Side of the Moon at Wembley in, er, the 1970's sometime.
yeah same c_girl, never listened to them in the past. that song in particular does it for me though 🙂
Hold On - BB King
Thin Lizzy - Live & Dangerous, Brian Robertsons solo on 'still in love with you'
Thin Lizzy - Emerald - real mob marching over the hill, you can almost see them coming.
Intro of Xanadu - Rush again, sorry.
Try some Yes - Steve Howe is an amazing jazz (IMHO) guitar man. Roundabout try, I think. Bit drunk so memory function is abit all over the place so may not actually pin the tracks on the head that I want.
"Neil and Jack and Me" - King Crimson - Beat album I think or maybe Three of a Perfect Pair.
Crimson again - All of Red album - especially "Starless and Bible Black" and "One More Red Nightmare"
😀
still going...absolutely brilliant choices so far!
😈 rockin!
Brain is seizing up totally now, much too late and drunk for coherent thought. Hope that you can keep it rockin!
Ooh - try some Lone Star (not the C&W act), a 70's rock band, pre UFO and others. Albums are "Lone Star" and "Firing on all six". Track that comes to mind is "The Ballad of Crafty Jack" off the latter and "The Bells of Berlin" also off the latter.
Lone Star aren't on Spot but can find a couple on Youtube. Bells of Berlin, Lonely Soldier and From all of us to all of you.
Give em a go. Esp the 1st and 3rd tracks.
Not obvious to some people, but for me when I think of soulful I think of most any Peter Green and Fleetwood Mac performance:
Need your Love So Bad:
World keep on turning:
but for sheer technical brilliance way before his time see Jose feliciano:
Hey Jude:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkUbeSW5ya0 (from 3:21 to 7:05) make shivers go down my spine
Malaguena:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFvqmIi9Ymc
lone star...bells of berlin, was matching my sleepy mood but then it kicked in, phew! and welsh to, local.
wow jose has some skills!
ah man, iron maiden are pretty damm good too

Stone Roses - Good times
From Second Coming when John Squire had gone all Led Zep.

Wishbone Ash "Throw down the sword" from Argus
pink floyd - high hopes ending solo
pink floyd - sorrow opening solo

cinnamon_girl hits the nail on the head with the first reply.
Try "Sloe Gin" by Joe Bonamassa. Loud. Utterly sublime.
ah man was going to go to bed....but its sunny! shocker!
mayhaps a ride will wake me up
if only i could take spotify with me!
Joe Bonamassa again...
'Reconsider Baby', from the album Had to Cry Today.
Alternatively, Rory Gallagher's 'A Million Miles Away' from the album, Irish Tour. Or Free's 'Mr. Big' from Free Live.
Stevie Ray Vaughan's Little Wing - just fabulous. Powerful but delicate, surging emotion. Definitive, for me.
Little Caesar were a class '80's / '90s rock band, esp. this album;
Good songs here, but the cover version of 'I Wish It Would Rain' (NOT of the Phil Collins song) has an immense solo on it, guitarist called himself Apache & left after this album.
Unfortunately I can't search for it here at work ( 🙄 ), but definitely worth a listen if you like to make devil-horn hand gestures!
since i been loving you- live on song remains the same ,live at madison sqaure garden- led zepplin
turn the lights off, find this track and turn it right up:
john butler trio: ocean
12 minutes of awesomeness 8)
in fact, anything off his first album ('john butler') is pretty much spot on for soulful guitar solo's and fingerpicking style.
Allman Brothers - Stormy Monday
Rory Gallagher - Who's that coming
Cream - Spoonful (live)
Santana - lots
Peter Green - lots
Derek & the Dominos - Key to the highway
Dire Straits - Telegraph Road
JJ Cale - Carry on
Hendrix - Red house
Mountain - Crossroader (live)
SRV - Stans swang

Another vote for Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb but has to be the live version on "Pulse" - turn the volume to 11 and just sit back 🙂
a second vote for Stormy Monday by the Allman Brothers Band
Joyful noise by the Derek Trucks band
Santana - Samba Pa Ti
+1 for Thin Lizzy - Still in love with you
Acoustic solo on end of Turn of the century on Going for the one by Yes
Inside looking out by Grand funk railroad
Rock bottom by UFO on Strangers in the night
La villa strangiato by Rush on Exit stage left
Limelight by Rush
anything by Rush
I agree with Gary_C in that it HAS to comfortably numb and I also agree with Norfolk-In-Chance in that it HAS to be Live
BUT... not from the pulse tour... it has to be from the "Delicate Sound of Thunder" live album
Which also includes many other great solos, you should buy it now...

Speed You Black Emperor
Not on Spotify mind.
thanks twohats 😀
and everyone else, this is an epic playlist!
Anyone mentioned Gary Moore - Parisian Walkways, or anything by him cos all have ace guitar solo's..
The Damned 'Smash It Up'eh? great song(s) yes, but blistering soulful guitar solo?
ahhh... think 'Smash it up' part 1... the just the guitar and bass playing together to begin with, later joined by the drums...
Part 2 kicks in when Mr. Vanian screams 'smash it up!'
Sympathy for the devil, the live version from get your ya ya's out. Too many by Neil Young but the Weld album is a good place to start as I think he's better when he's live. Marc Ford when he was with the Black Crowes. Pretty much anything from the second album but Wiser Time from Amorica is my favourite. Can't beat a bit of slide.
Cream (Eric Clapton) - Crossroads
Santana - Samba Par Ti
Stevie Ray Vaughn - Pride and Joy
[url=
NILS LOFGREN I'm not a fan of his but this is one of the best pieces of guitar playing I've heard , the live version is stunning through a decent HiFi system.
and [url=
I am the resurrection one of my favourite songs. 8)
da funk
UFO - 'Love to Love' from Strangers in the Night
Anything by Zakk Wylde/Black Label Society
Van Halen - 'I'm the one' from the first album - supposedly Eddie throwing the whole kitchen sink into one solo
glenp - totally agree about srv's Little Wing - I get shivers!
nick1c/manitou - didn't know the Allman Brothers covered the classic Stormy Monday. A link to it at all please?
Allman Brothers - In Memory of Elizabeth Reed from the Filmore Concerts cd.
People have already mentioned them but Sorrow and Comfortably Numb from Delicate Sound of Thunder are stunning.
Also, for sheer mind-blowingness Stevie Ray Vaughan - Rude Mood.
Pretty much anything played by Randy Rhoads but in particular from the live Tribute album: Mister Crowley; Children of the Grave; Revelation (Mother Earth)
Metallica: Fade to Black; Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
Eagles: Hotel California
Iron Maiden: Powerslave
Pantera: Cemetary Gates
Wishbone Ash "Throw down the sword" from Argus
One off the first albums I bought!
Believer by Viva Voce. I never knew women could play the guitar
The album version's a little bit tame but live it's phenomenal, like Buddy Guy turned up to 11.
