cinnamon_girl hits the nail on the head with the first reply.

Try "Sloe Gin" by Joe Bonamassa. Loud. Utterly sublime.

Joe Bonamassa again...

'Reconsider Baby', from the album Had to Cry Today.

Alternatively, Rory Gallagher's 'A Million Miles Away' from the album, Irish Tour. Or Free's 'Mr. Big' from Free Live.

Stevie Ray Vaughan's Little Wing - just fabulous. Powerful but delicate, surging emotion. Definitive, for me.

Little Caesar were a class '80's / '90s rock band, esp. this album;

[img] [/img]

Good songs here, but the cover version of 'I Wish It Would Rain' (NOT of the Phil Collins song) has an immense solo on it, guitarist called himself Apache & left after this album.
Unfortunately I can't search for it here at work ( ๐Ÿ™„ ), but definitely worth a listen if you like to make devil-horn hand gestures!

turn the lights off, find this track and turn it right up:

john butler trio: ocean

12 minutes of awesomeness 8)

in fact, anything off his first album ('john butler') is pretty much spot on for soulful guitar solo's and fingerpicking style.

I agree with Gary_C in that it HAS to comfortably numb and I also agree with Norfolk-In-Chance in that it HAS to be Live

BUT... not from the pulse tour... it has to be from the "Delicate Sound of Thunder" live album

Which also includes many other great solos, you should buy it now...

The Damned 'Smash It Up'

eh? great song(s) yes, but blistering soulful guitar solo?

ahhh... think 'Smash it up' part 1... the just the guitar and bass playing together to begin with, later joined by the drums...

Part 2 kicks in when Mr. Vanian screams 'smash it up!'

Sympathy for the devil, the live version from get your ya ya's out. Too many by Neil Young but the Weld album is a good place to start as I think he's better when he's live. Marc Ford when he was with the Black Crowes. Pretty much anything from the second album but Wiser Time from Amorica is my favourite. Can't beat a bit of slide.

NILS LOFGREN I'm not a fan of his but this is one of the best pieces of guitar playing I've heard , the live version is stunning through a decent HiFi system.

and [url=

I am the resurrection one of my favourite songs. 8)

da funk

Allman Brothers - In Memory of Elizabeth Reed from the Filmore Concerts cd.

People have already mentioned them but Sorrow and Comfortably Numb from Delicate Sound of Thunder are stunning.

Also, for sheer mind-blowingness Stevie Ray Vaughan - Rude Mood.
Pretty much anything played by Randy Rhoads but in particular from the live Tribute album: Mister Crowley; Children of the Grave; Revelation (Mother Earth)

Metallica: Fade to Black; Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
Eagles: Hotel California
Iron Maiden: Powerslave
Pantera: Cemetary Gates

Believer by Viva Voce. I never knew women could play the guitar  The album version's a little bit tame but live it's phenomenal, like Buddy Guy turned up to 11.

Loads of great songs on here. I would also add a couple that spring to mind:

Pink Floyd - coming back to life
Slightly left field but Wuthering Heights by Kate Bush - I love Andy Fairweather Lowe's guitar solo at the end. Simple, melodic, understated but gorgeous.
