Bbc news had a beautician bleating on about not being able to stay open on the run up to Xmas
So, you cant glue Pointless glittery fake nails onto your gullable customers fingers. Some people have strange priorities.
I mean its almost like this persons running a business and seeing it slip await through no fault of her own unable to help feed her family. Maybe you have "strange preterites" or just a lack of empathy.

Hi Joe,
Tragic though it is for every small business this Christmas, it highlights the ignorance of the "just-in-time" nature of food and essentials distribution in the UK. We manufacture almost *nothing* that we consume bar sugar, milk and a little veg.
The only good thing to come out of the bit of a mess that is Brexit is that supermarkets and their distributors have warehouses full of stock, but this is only good for a few days.
If there was a time to be panic buying it is now, and I imagine the reason the media isn't jokingly discussing bog-roll stockpiling this time around is because they know how serious the situation is and aren't about to take the blame for precipitating it.

you do realise panic buying and stockpiling compounds the problem people think its going to help?

The thing we should all be being outraged about here is that the government's mishandling of this thing since February has meant a rolling cycle of economically disastrous restrictions, and the fact that there isn't the economic support in place for some of those affected.
Though I will say that the hairdressers our family have used have felt some of the safest places I've been since lockdown, masks, one in, one out, t&t etc, so I have some sympathy with those who've made every effort.
The voxpops are always personal and the person interviewed is often missing the wider perspective. Getting your nails done might be a nice treat but it's non-essential business. Nearly every interview I've seen the narrative is "woe is me", "I've got it really hard", "it's a tragedy that my boutique Instagram dog-wedding business is crumbling as I've worked really hard for 1 year setting it up".
They never say.... I'm having a tough time but others have lost family members, or lost their jobs or I understand that we're facing an existential crisis. I sometimes think the media are manipulating them but some of them come across as very self-important. Instagram dog-weddings is not a real job but in their minds they're as important as front line doctors.
It's crap that any business folds but some businesses are just not sustainable, nor are they important in the middle of a global pandemic.

And that statement shows a lack of understanding of the just-in-time philosophy, it allows retailers to be agile and massively reduces waste and cost. Warehousing large volumes of consumables takes a lot of resources. Under normal circumstances and even abnormal ones it works well when done properly and we all benefit through reduced prices and fewer greenhouse emissions. It's the government who have once again decided to so badly destabilise our country for no foreseeable benefit who are to blame, not supply chain management.
But the JIT approach has risks as well as benefits. Remember the 2011(?) floods in Thailand that meant you couldn't get HDDs for months? It affected the world wide production of computers for a year

I've got no problem with people being self-absorbed when they are losing their livelihood. Being self-absorbed is a human quality.
The issue I have is with media organisations who give these voices equal prominence. A few nights ago our local BBC TV news carried a long interview with a pub owner from the Dales who openly encouraged people to travel from Tier 3 into Tier 2 against guidance on the basis that it wasn't actually illegal to do so. I respect her right to have that opinion, but Look North's decision to run the story was shameful.
Better troll than the skiing at Christmas one.
Lol!
Welcome to the forum! Contender for “best first post” surely?
You are Laurence Fox and I claim my £10
Offensive troll reported.
Im outraged..
What kind of monster puts milk into coffee??
Odd post, anyway:
Yet you blindly continue clap your NHS heroes. You know those heroes who have mostly sat on their arses all summer and denied treatment to cancer patients.
My wife is a cancer nurse and has been continuing to treat patients throughout
I prefer a flat white to a latte
The rest of us do not wish to listen to your pious, virtue signalling crepe any more.
I quite like the idea of a pious virtue-signalling pancake.
I wonder if its the car survey guy getting his reverse troll on
I quite like the idea of a pious virtue-signalling pancake.
Not until after the Brexit, you'll just have to put up with this type of crepe until then
I quite like the idea of an aggressive anti-establishment, anti-elite, anti-sheeple poster running scared of the swear filter...

Me too, but I mixed it up a bit this morning and had a cappuccino. I feel vindicated in my choice now - thank goodness arsebiscuits wasn’t talking about me
These guys need to learn to vary the script a bit. Where are they coming from?
You people seem way too naïve to even look outside the heavily censored mainstream media for a balanced source of opinion.
And yet everything you say I've seen before in the heavily censored mainstream media.
Joined yesterday, how long before you get censored? 🙂 2.5/20
Good spelling, punctuation, sentence structure etc

Yeah that was particularly daft as the oncologists I work with have been insanely busy all summer and still are now, pathology department assigning extra shifts over Xmas too
Carpark at my local Aldi was full at 8.00 this morning 😮
Is arsebiscuits trolling? Either way, it’s not a million miles off a conversation I keep finding myself trapped in. What do you say in answer to those who say this sort of thing (and that lockdown is a convenient means of population control to avoid scrutiny over Brexit)? I don’t want to derail the thread, but genuinely it’s a thought process that is out there and I have no idea where to start with debunking it.

Don't bother, block and move on with a sense of pity. The psychological boost some people get from conspiracy theories is the root cause, and ironically, arguing with them fuels this and encourages the behaviour.
Also, the act of arguing probably erodes your own self-worth, which is a precious resource right now.
I ask them how the lockdown conspiracy was co-ordinated over every single developed country other than Brazil and America. They don't even get to say 'but Sweden' anymore.
I have no idea where to start with debunking it.
You can point out the blatant lies of cancers patients receiving no treatment but you’re wasting your time, easiest way is to smile and wave. It’s dark hole I find myself in pointing out such lies on other social media circles.
Somebody opened the sherry early.
some businesses are just not sustainable, nor are they important in the middle of a global pandemic.
Everyone's living their own lives, and if this is the business that puts food on their table to feed their kids, then I think it's pretty important to them, and we'd do well to have some compassion to the lives of others as well as the big picture. The government hasn't shown any intent to bail them out until forced to do so by some kid from the wrong side of the tracks who happens to have a conscience as well as silky ball skills, of course they have to look out for themselves.
Anyway; this new variant is a total (convenient) red herring right now. It's a true variant and it might well be more infectious than others, I don't mean that. But we saw cases spiralling 2 weeks ago, we only have one response right now, to reduce contact and transmission and the pricks did nothing. While it's important to know the cause, the effect is the crisis and what has to be dealt with, and all this 'only found out about the new variant on Friday' is just dodging the issue. They had all the evidence they needed at the time and wasted it. Again.
I quite enjoyed it. Most of the troll/ anti STW echo chamber posts here are by folk who can hardly dribble in a straight line (Chewy, I'm looking at you) but that was quite good.
I detect just a whiff of millennial entitlement sneaking in there mind. And a soupson of I'm alright jack, or I would be if you just let me do what I want when I want and sod the consequences to the weak and lily livered.
I'd like to know if he (it has to be a he, probably a beard too if he's old enough to grow one yet) plans to have the vaccine or if that's just for the sheeple.
But overall, a refreshing extra opinion to the mix.

look like a copy and paste to me...

dates it

Dont even bother engaging with the troll.
Paid government shill: language of the deluded conspiracy theorist. Good luck deprogramming yourself.

dont forget "mainstream media" - somehow every single professional news source has come to the same conclusion, and I have a youtube video to dispute it, must be a conspiracy...

I am not sure that engaging with this extreme a view would actually have a benefit.
arsebiscuit is just a troll - burner account and an extreme view insulting as many people as possible in an attempt to trigger, not have a reasoned point of view.
For myself and my family, we do what we do as well. I hope with a 'greater good' attitude as well as selfishness, which if we are honest we all are in our own way. I don't need to influence others, I need to look after me and mine.
Arsebiscuits, I suggest this is probably the wrong forum for you, try joining all the other tin foil hatted, brexit voting gammons on the news, politics & economics forum on Pistonheads, you’ll be welcomed with open arms over there.
I’ll wager you’ve just bought an e-bike for ‘exercise’ too and to boost your ‘eco’ credentials but still think cyclists are the manifestation of Satan on public roads.
Watching the aircraft coming into MIA last night and this morning. Very busy, busier than I've seen it for months.
I really hope these passengers and flight crews are self isolating and doing the 'right thing'.
Hannah - you must walk away from these people, you can't make them change their mindset.
In a mixing of threads, maybe arsebiscuits is Danny Hart's dad...
The NHS that only cares about treating you if you have Covid. Unless you are very old of course
Well, I'm 48 and have been in twice for a Saliendoscopy in the last few weeks.
Tried engaging with a plandemic covidiot, but if they refute logic, what are you going to do? Unfriended him in the end as I got bored of just being insulted if I didn't immediately agree with him - shame, didn't know him well but a nice lad and great photographer.
Don’t confuse the point with your “facts” Kryton!

Funnily enough Hannah there is an article about this on the BBC website (mainstream media 😉 )
How should you talk to friends and relatives who believe conspiracy theories?
