We're planning a trip to the UK and will be joining friends whilst they are camping with their kids, one is 6 and the other 4. Now, I've never planned a holiday before with kids involved, normally just bikes, mountains, beer etc.

Can anyone recommend a good location or maybe camp site around the middle of England which would offer a good base for kid related activities?

My though was maybe around Ashbourne, whilst it would be nice next to the coast would we really apprecaite it in early June? Could maybe head to skeggy but they often go there anyway so somewhere new would be nice.

Any bright ideas?

There's some nice campsites along the Norfolk coast (which isn't that far from Skeggy, but isn't exactly middle UK).

Deepdale is quite basic, but has all you need and is very friendly. They have Tipi's you can book for the weekeend, but they're quite pricey.

There's one near Cromer (East Runton, I think) called Woodhill Park, which is quite nice.

Cromer's quite a bit further East than Deepdale though...

Lime Tree Park nr Buxton is a nice site too....just depends what you define as 'middle of England'.

If you can stretch to a drive to N Yorkshire, Flamingo land is a great place to camp with wee kids - always something to do, pleanty to keep the adults entertained, N York moors are only 20 mins away (for that 'guytime'day!) and the beach is 1/2 an hour away.

did it with 2 kids similar ages for 4 years running and they loved it.

My kids have always liked the trips to Edale. seventeen years later and they still nag me to go back.
Clean and simple, great walks, great cafe nice pub.
And just up the M1, I drive from Bedfordshire.

Callow Top just north of Ashbourne is popular - think it has a Brewery on site as well as kiddie related activities....

Not the middle of England, but there is an excellent Forestry Commission one in the North York Moors, close to Dalby, Pickering, Scarborough, Whitby, Filey, York etc - loads to do - I just can't remember the name - begins with a "C"?

Not quite in the middle, but there's a nice campsite above Robin Hood's Bay in North Yorkshire, overlooks the sea and the village. There's no beach as such at RHB but it's not far to Whitby, Filey, or Scarborough for bucket and spade action, and then there's the North York Moors and Dalby Forest nearby. Oh and you can cycle into Whitby on disused railway line I think.
