A Jetpack

He had a Simca briefly - I liked it. He didn't.

A Capri 3000s in orange or an Escort RS1800.

But no, we got another Cortina. Metallic brown with a beige vinyl roof.

I was thinking of that Rancho as I opened the thread - my Dad even said he was considering it before thinking better of it.

Funilly enough he had an Avenger, obviously not a tiger. Still would have preferred this:

And my 9 year old nephew is currently informing every adult of his acquaintance A) that they should buy a Bugatti Veyron and B) how rubbish his dad is for not buying the aforementioned car!

Probably a Midget or Herald. Later stuff like a Lotus Cortina or a Brabham Viva.

I always wanted the Fuego or the Rover 2600 (was that its official name?)

My grandad got a Renault 11, I was gutted he didn't get the TXE Electronic edition. To a pre-pubescent that would've been like owning KITT.

[img] [/img]

"More to go wrong" he said. Gutted.

Harry the Spider - my dad had that exact model of Manta GTE in the same colour. The sad thing is, I really wanted him to have an Astra GTE. How our motoring aspirations have changed in the last 30 years.

A 1953 Nash Healey. A long held favourite of mine. The car would have been 8 yr old then too, so maybe affordable.

I tried to get pops to replace his Brooklands green Marina with a Fiat Strada. I think he was right to ignore me.

Only car I can remember wanting my parents to get was a Nissan Prarie (we always bought Nissans so that's the only dealer we went into). Cos it had a huge interior and a sliding back door!

Think my dad had a Vauxhall Viva but I was more interested in other things at eight than what car my dad was driving.

FFS you can't start a thread on here without somebody picking holes in it.

Ages 8 - 12 inclusive.

How about that?

My Dad had two Fuegos - second one brand new (was stationed in Germany so tax free). It had remote central locking, space age tech in 1984. Wasn't the turbo though, just the GTS.

Can't believe no ones mentioned this. I sooooo wanted dad to get one, but he said 'no, coz they don't have a luggage cover for the boot'. I took that at face level until we met one of our family friends who bought a coupe (not quattro, but close) showed me that it did indeed have a cover: "daaaaaad! Look! It does have a cover we can get one!"

He did get a cavalier SRI which was pretty cool.

When I was 8 I probably wanted my dad to get a Batmobile. I can't believe the rest of you were so blooming conservative!
As it happens he bought a HUUUGE Citroen with 3 rows of seats and a tendancy to conk out if it was fed crap petrol.
Then he got a 3 litre Scimitar which was dead cool and he even let me hit the over drive switch sometimes. That's a huge deal to a little girl!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

I wanted this :-

He bought this :-

Oh, how I cried. He bought it from Hastings Deering in Sydney, in the 2 years he had it, he burnt out 8 clutches. It went back to them suffice it to say.

As soon as I read the thread title, I thought of the Matra Rancho, I remember the first time we saw one was in a showroom in Paignton and Dad took it for test drive. It was pea green and me and my brother pestered him for weeks to buy it. I thought they were the coolest cars at the time, but looking back my dads Gold Mk1 Granada 3.0 ghia (with the vinyl roof and velour seats)was WAY cooler.

One of these, idealy with "Slot Mags" (even an eight year old knew not just any buggy would do, it needed to be a Meyers Manx!)I had a little orange pedal car version, until I snapped it in half doing jumps - my god there were some tears that day!....

My dad was quite cool, started with a brand new xr2 which I loved in 84, then a golf gti mk2 then a 16v version. Moved onto a corrado vr6 then onto an Audi 80 quattro, which he owned until I was 19 and I bought it. 2.8 quattro at 19 was dangerous and I blew all my mates away, then it was stollen ๐Ÿ™

He had a Capri 3000s with sidewinder exhausts along bottom of doors in 77-79 I think but my mother made him sell it when she got pregnant with me.

He now has a BMW z4 m coupe and has had m3, 330ci club sport, TT.

So quite a nice little selection over the years.

All I wanted was a Sierra Ghia with pepperpot alloys.

I thought rear headrests and electric windows were a revelation!

[img] [/img]

Ended up with a Cavalier GLS, which was somewhat disappointing, but still pretty cool compared to the crap cars we had before (renault 4, renault 6, renault 14)

[img] [/img]

My Uncle had a Renault Fuego, but I told all my friends he had a Porsche!
