I refuse to go to bars unless there is sawdust on the floor and a spitoon.
Last time I went to the Waterhead Inn near Ambleside they had signs up asking folk not to form a single line.
They was still a massive line stretching across the empty floor and out the door which everybody had to squeeze through if they wanted to walk around for whatever reason.
Very much a chain pub/punter thing in my experience.
I frequent the sadlers cat (rip pilcrow) and it seems to have become a thing, I was chatting to the staff about it they are bemused by it. its a bar ffs, use it properly.
Sometimes it's an old style scrum, but if you haven't grown up with that if you don't know the system and it's a genuine free for all, it does create a bit of a potential for trouble in a busy city pub on a Sat night.
‘S’why you don’t find me in a city pub pretty much any time, unless I’m in Bath of an afternoon, when I might pop into the Raven for a pie and a pint, but they’ve got two bars, so it’s pretty easy to get served.
Agree its a stupid thing but for all those saying ignore it. Try ignoring it in a pub in Liverpool. Either the staff will tell you to join the Q or you will start a ruck...
