I really can not fathom why there are no music programmes on normal telly.
The Tube was just the best thing to happen on a Friday evening. Channel 4 should be rerunning the whole series rather than ****wits go dating.

Hmm, I think some people are missing the meaning of "The Tube". it was an utterly anarchic and brilliant show which set the tone for other shows to follow. I had a deep desire for Muriel Gray which only deepened when I discovered she was a Munroist. Then there was Paula!!!! Oh and music.

I went every week 1984-5 with 2 mates all first years Newcastle University - first episode Billy Bragg playing to the queue outside - saw lots - was ace. Then drank our way back to the student union via the quayside pubs and the city centre.
Christ , I feel old if there are people on here who have never seen The Tube.
The one that sticks in my mind was watching the Word with my insomniac Grandma after the pub when that lass from L7 took her pants off. 🙂
Best memory is one I was in the room for, it was Undertones, Big Country and U2, so not a bad lineup.
After the recording we bundled 6 up in my mates Austin Maxi to race U2 down to Leeds Uni for their main gig of the night.

As for best performance, I reckon this is the best version of Born to Run I’ve seen.
It is brilliant, as indeed is the entire album it is from. "I'm sorry I've me cards at 'ome".
As an aside, "Frankie" was the first digital recording I ever heard - on VHS via a Sony PCM before CDs were released.

Used to be my favourite music show, it was a bit ad hoc which added to the DIY feel of it IMO.
It showed bands that wouldn't get played anywhere else, many of which I went to see live having seen them on the tube.

Great thing about the Tube was how it brought the weird and wonderful to our screens, not seen anywhere else. Like Foetus did a set on there! I mean, who else would book Foetus for a live TV show ??? I was out of my mind! I wonder if it's on YT...

THE best moment in unplugged history..
I remember it being filled with a huge amount of dross though, one hit wonder bands, and unfunny 'comedy' and interviews which seemed edgy and important at the time, but looking back are really just the glitterati taking to itself. It did however have Madonna on it one Ep when she was still relatively unknown - and the crowd looking on (just feet away) looking distinctly unimpressed. I wonder how many folks have an "I was there the night..." story out of it.
