When watched as a kid, it was pant-wettingly scary.
I remember there being a load of these old black & white b-movies on the telly when I was a kid. I used to avidly watch them with my Dad (who had seen them at the pictures when he was a youth!). Others I remember were 'The day the Earth stood still', 'The Beast With Five Fingers' and another one about a bloke who came back from a space mission and started to turn into a cactus!
Dark Star
This Island Earth
Silent Running
"Dark Star" of course.
Night of the Lepus - killer bunnies! I nearly wet myself laughing the first time I saw it.
killdozer
Killdozer! Blimey, I'd forgotten about that one. It was on a double bill with the Giant Spider Invasion at the cinema in Chorley 🙂
TJ can you hand on heart say you have watched Plan 9 all the way through? It is so bad that I couldnt stick it out.
Nope - I have not watched the whole thing. Is just so very bad but an absolute classic b movie nonetheless
I nearly forgot the original War Of The Worlds movie and not that remake with big nose and that screaming bint. Also It Came From Outer Space, big jelly monsters with one eye 🙂
Quatermass and the pit
Quatermass and the pit
I've never seen it 🙁 Remember starting to watch it as a kid but that's about it.
In no order;
Them!
The day the earth stood still.
The incredible shrinking man.
Invasion of the body snatchers.
Probably all 1950s and all b/w if i remember right.
They live!
For a modern b movie I like Bad Taste.
Planet Terror is probably the only one I've seen.
Not a sci fi film but for a B-movie I watched Hobo With A Shotgun last night and it was nothing short of incredible 🙂 The last line of the film is "you and me are in a car going straight to hell... and I'm riding shotgun!"
Soon to be classic - Tremors
Brilliant B movie fun
+1 Silent Running and Dark Star
Very surprised the no has mentioned Independance Day. Ok it had a budget at the time but everything else screamed b movie, and that's how history will judge it.
Tremors +1
Far side of the sun
Very surprised the no has mentioned Independance Day. Ok it had a budget at the time but everything else screamed b movie, and that's how history will judge it.
But this thread is about classic B movies, not terrible blockbusters.
the blob,, dont walk run!
Invasion of the Bodysnatchers
Not sure if it counts as a b movie but Scanners
Sorry for being sniffy but Forbidden Planet is NOT a B Movie by any standard. It cost £5 million to make at the time and was nominated for an Academy Award I believe !! Based on The Tempest you cretin.
If the question was "best classic sci-fi" then you are on to a winner.
OK sniffyness over - my favourite B Movie has to be Sergeant Kabukiman, which could have been improved with space ships.
The Thing
The Fly
The Faculty
Not sure if planet terror counts as it was made as a homage to b movies..
Day the Earth stood still.
And every Sunday afternoon - The Invaders!
Is pitch black considered as a b movie, probably not? I know it was somewhat low budget etc, still one of my favourites ever!!!
I like Pitch Black but preferred the follow up Chronicles of Riddick.
The land that time forgot - absolute classic, even with plastic dinosaurs
Do flatliners and lost boys count?
More horror than sci-fi.
War of the Worlds with Ronnie Raygun...
I'm another 'They Live' fan - and that's the clip I would've linked to, either that or when he puts on ths unglasses for the very first time...
THEM
Repo Man
Fiend Without A Face
Worth it for the stop-motion animated killer brains with antennae!
