mostly for anonymous comments as above. I think the idea is that you can link similar threads with the tags, so, for instance, if you saw 'sfb argues' in a thread, clicking it would take you to every other post [s]in which sfb argued,[/s]
so yep, they're pretty pointless.

I only noticed them fairly recently, ignored them along with all the other bells and whistle, flashing stuf going on!

Yep, they're much more useful on porn sites where they can take you to directly and rapidly, to your favourite niche perversion, on a single click.
