Inspired by my mum absolutely coming up trumps yesterday
We were out with the kids, playing in the snow and cold. All good fun! then popped round to the rentals for tea, to be presented with a massive Lancashire Hot Pot that'd been cooking for hours, with crusty pastry, and pickled red cabbage. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Your personal favourites please oh discerning culinary STW ones? Lets have some recipes. Inspire me what to cook for this cold, snowy weather
It was cherry pie and custard...
However since recent dieting, i now find out that the weekend that Cherry pie and custard leaves me feeling very sick 🙁

Bacon & beans on toast.
That's tea sorted then.
Sausage, mash and beans
Jamie - that looks spot on!! Most definitely going on this weeks menu. I'm thinking that'd be absolutely ideal for post night-ride on Thursday.
Sausage and mash. It has to be a good quality Cumberland sausage (fnar), also with my wife's killer onion gravy.
Haggis, neeps and - here's the clincher, tatties. All mashed up. Salivating right now.
bacon, fried egg and melted cheese lashings of tomato sauce on thick white bread with looaaddss of butter................

OMG, guess what we had for yesterday's roast? A big ol' smoked gammon joint. Was gonna do a carbonara with the leftovers but may now have to indulge in some cockney broth!
Gulasch with parsley potatoes and peas. Followed by a variant of bread and butter (currently pannetone) pudding and custard.
MussEd has it.
Chips on a buttered oven bottom.
Chips about 15mm deep cut from Maris Piper spuds.
Fried in fresh vegetable oil until crispy and yellow.
Liberally apply Anchor butter to a fresh oven bottom 15cm diameter.
Add chips to oven bum with lashings of salt & vinegar.
I like it when the vinegar soaks into the bread.
Get stuck in and no it's not rude to lick the dribbles of butter from your wrists!
Chicken and sausage pie with home made chips .
Sausage pasta with thick oatcakes.
Mushroom risotto
Favorite soup ,then add rice

As a lancastrian, I feel obliged to point out that lancashire Hotpot doesn't have a crust. Yours was pie (equally as good,if not better IMHO)
Good quality sausages with a side of macaroni and cheese.
Chicken jalfrezi. The takeaways where i live are poor at best so i have now started to make my own.
failedengineer - The pastry was cooked separately to the Hot pot, and was provided purely for dipping purposes. 😀

Falafel, feta, humous, pepper and salad wrap. loads of Encona chilli sauce and a can of Old Jamaica Cream Soda.
Depends: mostly it's tea and toast( white thick sliced with loads of butter and strawb jam) and a lie in/ duvet dancing.
After drinking its chips and a runny egg in white buttered bread
failedengineer - Lancashire hotpopt may not have a crust. It does however have a capital L.

Thought your favourite was a grande dose of fist pie? 🙂
came in from a cold ride yesterday to a bubbling pot of home made Minestrone courtesy of mrs iainc - first time using the Hairy Bikers recipe and totally delicious 🙂
Tartiflette
Binners - Good answer. Perfect comfort food
😥 I hate being on a diet. I hate this thread.
Dieting in January is just stupid.
It's cold, dark and miserable. Salad is not your friend in these times.
Proper french cassoulet is fantastic warming comfort food - pork, sausages, duck, goose, beans, vegetables all slow cooked for hours so it melts in your mouth.
Making myself feel hungry now.
Or if short for time, a breakfast stottie with crispy bacon, sausage, egg, mushrooms, black pudding
jota180 - thats reminded me of another of the better halves favourites. Blat a full camembert in the microwave for a couple of minutes, then cut the top crust open and dip crusty bread in the runny lovliness within.
God this thread is making me hungry now
Stovies - nothing better
..or maybe cullen skink

I completely agree. Difficult to go back now though as I've already lost so much weight and feel so much better.
But this thread is tempting me towards the fridge....
Penny Dip,
A nice thick slice of white bread, buttered, then dipped into the juices in the pan from cooking a beef steak or joint, a dash of salt . . .
pure heaven
MrsG's Smoked haddock risotto with a poached egg (or two)
My Gnocci with tomatoes, red pepper, chilli and chorizo
Others include scrambled eggs & salmon and (just had it for lunch) cheese on toast with chilli (flakes of fresh, doesn't matter)
<wanders off to butchers to see if he has any ham hocks for Jamie's recipe>
nomnomnomnom
Stews. Not bothered what but current favourite is boarlet (baby wild boar) as it's in season. Marinade for a couple of days. Cook for 5-6 hours. Delicious.
Venison Stew & dumplings with bacon, redcurrent jelly and whatever else is around veg wise.
Cheese and potato soup wth a crusty bun
Steaming treacle sponge with copious amounts of custard
Cheese souffle
Spicey mixed bean hotpot
Bratwurst( Aldi's) and mash
Bacon butty with B/S or if im feeling really hungry then add egg and blackpudding
If it was the last meal sort of thing then the venison stew would top my list but it would have to come from the Crask Inn in Sutherland. My stew doesn't come close.....and is turning into something of an eternal quest
+1
tartiflette
Fish and chips, loads a smelly vinegar

Chicken curry rice & chips
Crisp Sandwich
Cheese on toast
Apple crumble & custard. (or pie and custard. Or cobbler & custard. Or flapjack & custard. Or ginger cake & custard. Sod it, just give us the damn custard...)
You horrible lot.
It's chilly out, i'm on my way home to a broken hob so limited comfort food preparation options for me.
Good sausages, apple sauce and mashed potatoes with shedloads of butter in.
Now I feel hungry...

Bregante- good call! - that's one of my proudest moments! A full English breakfast in a pie! A mad dream turned into a reality by the vision of Dr P. i Might have to cook another one this week 🙂
Ton you total pervert. OOOH i want some.
that's one of my proudest moments!
DrP's creation originally, wasn't it?
Cauliflower cheese (grilled top) with chips followed up with Bread and butter pudding. Beer!
Cassoulet, red wine, fresh bread.
Or
Sausage & Mash with red Onion gravy.
I tried a tweak on the fish finger sandwich last week - add 1 slice of cheese and a good helping of tartare sauce made it a winner.
For me a simple beans on toast with a mug of Yorkshire tea to wash down is my favourite comfort food.
Bacon and cheese oatcakes with loads of brown sauce, food of the gods
Fish finger butties! food of the gods! they have to be on crap white bread though, with cheese singles and tomato sauce. Mmmmmmm
Tyrolean Grostl with the egg cooking itself on top
My variation on fish finger sandwich : use a whole haddock fillet in batter
Today I had smooth veg soup with chives, barley and bits of chicken liver pâté
Many of the others on here are wonderful winter food
Fajitas all day long! Yuuuuuum
When I had my own bakery we sold the breakfast pie. Sliced sausage egg and baked beans topped with a lovely puff pastry lid.. total comfort !! Nowadays I like cheese n biscuits with my homemade chilli jam
