So far I've got tickets for Shindig Weekender and Farm Festival both at Bruton in Somerset. I went to Bluedot last year which was rather middle class but I really enjoyed it. Orbital are headliners this year so I may go again.

What's on other STWer's calendars for 2017?

Rewind in Cheshire. Wish my kids were smaller so we could go back to Camp Bestival, went 4 times and it was ace. 🙁

Keeping an eye on Electric Fields at Drumlanrig Castle. It's local and has potential for a good lineup.

But would really want to nip over to the Netherlands for either ADE or Awakenings
(if you've never seen the Gashouder venue, check it out - looks amazing)

Bingley Music Live, probably. Because it's local.

CBA to go camping and not willing to spend inflated prices on an RV just because it's a festival weekend

We've got Glastonbury tickets. I'm sure the naysayers will be along in a minute but I know it'll be great and I'll likely not watch any of the headliners.

BlueDot looked great last year and looks strong again this - how was camping/food/overall experience?. We had a good time at Field Day last year but now a single day and a meh lineup.

Bluedot was great last year, Underworld, PSB, Steve Mason and Steve Davies of his head were highlights. Food was OK, street food festival type food. Had the posh toilet option as my mate has OCD no bothering this year

Have a weekend camping taking the kids to Saturday and Sunday till tea time hope Weatherall isn't late on Sat or ill miss him.

Bluedot is on the radar here, Orbital look like a good headline draw and it's practically walking distance from home.

ArcTanGent. Now in its 5th year, it's a permanent fixture of my calendar. Absolutely love it, there's nothing else like it.

Belladrum.
Mostly cos I can ride there on my bike, and also because iit's 'free' tickets in return for working there.

So Bluedot - any locals got any suggestions? Was wondering last year about going up with bikes and doing some riding before or afterwards (we're in London, it's close to good riding) but I don't think i'd be happy leaving bikes in a festival car park over the weekend. Any suggestions on where we might be able to leave them safely?

Last year the day tickets were good value - is the site close enough to anywhere to stay locally and easily get back at the end of the night (or is it a sober night and a drive?)

Y Not and L'Eroica. Despite the presence of ABC at the latter.

Not even Arcade Fire? 😯
Anyway, after going for the first time last year, and thoroughly enjoying the whole atmosphere of the place, I've already got my early-bird ticket for Green Man in August.
Great variety of music, food and beer. Honestly, what's not to like?

I think your bikes would be alright at bluedot so long as they were covered up. It's in field in one of the poshest areas in Cheshire and most of the crowd are either science geeks or massively middle class or both. It's definitely not boomtown or t in the park. The biggest crime i saw were people pushing in the queue for Falafel

My 1st year at Y-Not, even though it's 5 miles away from me and my daughter went when she was 14. No idea of the line-up yet though.

Eroica will be interesting this year - if it rains at Bakewell, it's a bit miserable. If it rains at the new venue, it will undoubtedly be sideways and unbearable

I would have headed along to TRAINSMUT but it's the same weekend as the endurance downhill so I'm off to that. Keeping an eye on some of the biggies, arctangent is off to a good start too with converge and explosions in the sky, as usual Download has the makings of a good 1 or 2 day festival spread over 3 days...

Does OneFest count? It's 4 frank turner gigs with delusions of grandeur but should still be ace.

This made me chuckle and sums it up perfectly.

Shindig has a massive line-up if you're amen break obsessed (which I am)
We were gonna go to shindig, nip off site on Sunday to catch fat freddy's drop at love saves the day in Bristol and then back to site for the last few hours before driving home on Monday afternoon.

However.. certain members of this year's crew got the heebie jeebies about logistics..

In the fallout I decided I'd probably rather be at masked ball in porthlevan, the line up is a bit more discerning as are the punters..
Sgonna be achingly cool

what's not to like?

it's a festival. For a misanthrope who hates crowds you'd have to put a gun to my head to get me into Glastonbury.

Just for balance, like!

This year it's Glastonbury, Beautiful Days (as always) and Grinagaog a new festival in Torquay run by the people who run Shangrla at Glastonbury.

After a quietish year last year on the gig front (due to our singer having a cornea transplant!) we'd already been booked for Boomtown, Beautiful Days, and at least 2 or 3 other biggish festivals.
Now both mine and the singers wives are expecting at the end of July/beginning of August, so we're having to cancel most of our summer festival gigs. 🙁 but also 😀 for the circle of life.

I'm thinking of the dyfi enduro.
🙂 (It's a festival for me!)
We'll be going to wilderness in Oxfordshire .
Maybe Green man, as I'd like to see Ryan Adams with a festival crowd.

Except this is Greenman, with a fraction of the number of attendees that you get at Glasto, about a tenth, IIRC, and if you are paying attention, camping isn't an issue; I found a spot at the top of a bit of a slope, fence behind, a row of loos a few yards away, not too far from where I parked, easy to get to everywhere on the site...
My camping spot when I first arrived:

The main arena on the first day:

The main arena when it's busy:

It's really not crowded, not by comparison to Glasto, Reading etc.
Probably about the same as IoW.

Most of the big festivals seem to have kept the same headliners for 25 years....

But I will be at Elderflower Fields if anyone wants to hire a canoe! Not to mention rocking my ancient bones to the Noble Jacks
