Obviously aliens/ pumas/ the beast of Sherwood forest.
What was it more likely to be? Fox or a badger?
It's in a wood right next to houses, I saw a deer 5 min later. So no chance of a wild cat/ red squirrel or anything that only lives deep in the wild
Size- no idea, perhaps bigger than a cat? It was quite a distance away and my lights only picked out it's eyes.
Two eyes staring right at me, so must have been a predator. It ran off, so not a bird.
No humans so probably not a dog on a walk.
I get spooked easily when solo night riding. That the. The deer crashing through the undergrowth, several sticks getting stuck in the bike then dragging along behind me made for one jittery ride!
Fox
I got it the wrong way round. Foxes are orange badger are green.
So the multi coloured lights weren't Christmas lights, and the flashes in the sky weren't fireworks? 😱 🙂
"what the hell are you?"
Must be getting close to when Eugene Tooms wakes up again...

Dont be. Just remember its all the same things that were in the woods during the day.
Just now they are awake and hungry!
Apologies to whoever wrote this first and I have nicked it from without attribution (in fairness it was years back and probably paraphrased).
Glowing orange eyes and up at Sherwood? Probably just one of the locals.
Could you hear banjos?
Depends if you were in Scotland, because if you were and it was a right-hand slope it was likely a Haggis.
Deer eyes are orange too aren't they, they also tend to stand and watch potential predators before deciding to skip off.
Either that, or a honey badger?
When I was in Australia one of the wardens said they way they knew how many crocs were there was to go out at night and count the orange eyes. Crocs in Sherwood sounds plausible.
When I was in the jungle, we remarked that you very rarely see any animals. The odd parrot or a flock that gets scared off by poachers rifles.
When we went for a night time boat trip up the river in the jungle, jeez, there are eyes in every direction looking at you. Snakes, anteaters, monkeys, cougars... and you are convinced that you are probably dinner for one of those pairs of eyes. And then the engine conked out and the boat started sinking, so you might be piranha dinner instead.
edit... turn off the head torch... that way you can't see their eyes glowing. And if you can't see them, then surely they can't see you 😉
Clearly it was a Lesser Spotted Orange Eyed Bike Watcher.
🫣
It was probably the ravenous Bugblatterbeast of Traal which is the most ferocious creature known to man and to Douglas Adams. It's a reverse telepath so if you can't see it, it thinks it can't see you. That's why it's ravenous
Munt-jac? I see plenty in Clumber and get surprisingly close to them before they wander off. They seem a lot less flighty than the deer I encounter.

I like that! I’m nicking that for future use! 😁

Deer eyes are usually silvery-white.
What do you call a deer with no eyes?
No idea.
What do you call a dead deer with no eyes?
Still no idea.
Due to me changing jobs I now walk my dogs in Clumber Park after dark with a head torch, twice this week i've seen 6 or 7 deer peering at me (eyes lit up) from the darkness of the pine wood!
I go through a farm on my commute. At one point, the horses usually pop up and stick their heads out over the bushes as they think you are the owners with a 'torch' with food !!
Pretty sure there is a gruffalo at Sherwood pines.
I can't find the picture now but there is a great photo from a guy out wild camping in one of those tree hammocks. He was all set up for the night and all alone in the middle of nowhere and decided to take a quick selfie. It was only when he looked at the photo on the phone that he saw the lit up eyes of a pack of wolves sat looking at him from 20 feet away. Apparently he didn't sleep that well.

Terrifying!
Probably not next to Nottingham right next to houses 😅
It was probably just a fox. Since their eyes are so bright, they often stare before running away. They are more common near houses and forests. A badger's eyes, on the other hand, don't reflect as much light, and they rarely look directly at you.
A winner! Maybe?
A Fox (as per post 2, thanks @joshvegas and @relapsed_manalorian)
I think the eyes were about the same orange colour, I guess the light it's reflecting makes a difference.
I thought muncjack had eyes on the side of their head? All the deer I've seen have had green glowing eyes.
I got paced by a herd of red deer in Woolaton park at dusk one day. Amazing how some silvery shapes look like wolves when you have a crappy commuter light.
(Woolaton park has a large heard of tame ISH red deer running about)
It's Perrin Aybara

Thought his eyes were golden? 💛
