We will be in touch
To counter the negative ( 😉 ) thread up there....!!
I love the fact I can really trust my parking sensonrs..
We used to have a Skoda Yeti that would do the 'beeeeeeeeeep' when there was about 4 feet of space..
But my Octavia spits da truth....
2feet.. beep beep beep
1 foot... beep beep beep beep beep
6 inches...beeeeeeeeep!!!
Brill
DrP
DAB radio so I can listen to BBC 6Music.
It's low mileage....
It's comfortable, practical, reliable, will seat 7 people, will drive through muddy fields and snow covered hills and is bright red.
I really like it and it's much better then the appalling PHEV version in pretty much every regard.
I can fit my Ice Cream Truck in without taking any wheels out.
It has a small steering wheel so feels "racey".
(Civic Tourer, not racey)
Automatic lights, wipers and gearbox. Wish it drove itself too.
And heated seats.
Zafira B.
Heated seats
Ability to move the second row completely out of the way without having to remove them, leaving a huge box behind the driver for bikes/dogs/tip runs etc.
Adaptive Cruise Control is amazing for long drives. Parking sensors show up on the dash and has a square for "you've probably hit it already you can stop now" which is spot on.
Ford Focus 1.0 Ecoboom. Nothing, I hate it!
Err actually I guess it has been reliable, just concerned that it will blow up if I don't keep an eye on the coolant.
Yeah and the heated windscreen.
Got all the features I decided were 'must have' when buying
- air con
- 6 speed gearbox
- DAB radio
- cruise control
All of which marks it out as a 'posh' version, so it gets more nice features as standard.
1 tonne payload.
The ride comfort in my Focus is amazing compared to everything else I've owned. It makes a 9 hour drive pleasurable.
It's a tiny, silly thing and fun to drive. Not fast or with amazing handling, but it makes me grin nonetheless. And with some wheel wrangling, it'll even hold two gnarpoons and riding kit.
Winter rubber all corners. Yeah
Radio 4 on all presets
Brand new gas struts on boot
King of the road, me
heated and cooled comfortable leather seats.
Keyless entry and start
reliable and smooth
climate control just works
It's a van. The cd player still works.
On mine the heated steering wheel and on mrs S the auto dipping headlights which work faultlessly.
My Nan series is boring as hell.
But!
It’s reasonably quick
It’s dead comfy
It sips diseasal
The back seats go down at the touch of a button and it’ll swallow a road bike whole or a drum kit with no effort, not at the same time though.
Auto everything
Heated Memory seats
The media and satnav bit is crap though - why are Germans so rubbish at user interfaces!
The fact is a company car, is the new octavia estate so loads of room for bikes and kit, it’s 1.0 l turbo and goes like a 1.8 and it’s less that £90 per month bik (uk company benefit in kind car tax)
It works which is an improvement on my old car which I had to give up on. Plus it's comfortable and whilst it drives like a hatch it's an estate with a nice big boot for the dogs, general lugging stuff around etc. £20 pa tax is appealing against £28pm on the old one as well 🙂
The personalised reg plate 😉
The multibeam LED headlights - but they are so fascinating I find myself watching them adapt to conditions rather than concentrating on my driving though. I just stick them on auto and they can even switch parts of the light beam off when following a car so everything else around it is lit up but it doesn't dazzle the driver.
2010 Zafira. Its paid for, comfy, fits loads of stuff in it and gets us from A-B with no fuss.
C class estate, Comfy and enough room for my bikes without too much faff
Everything except glow-plugs and one sensor that means I'm going to have to scrap a perfectly good car that's just barely run in. 189k so I need to do 11k before Jan to finish running it in then it will be scrap.
It's got seats and a steering wheel.
I can put the seats down from the boot, never realised how useful that would be
Does a van count? VW T6 camper.
I love driving somewhere to work. Put the kettle on, do a couple of hours work. Then get the bike out of the rack and go for a ride. Kettle on, lunch out of fridge and back working - no one is any the wiser I’m not at home!
Unfortunately don’t get to do this as often as I would like.
It’s incredibly comfortable and easy to drive so that helps.
We can sleep innit, fit bikes in with wheels on, or seat 5 folks, it's small but has loads of space, does over 50mpg and I can listen to Spotify in there.
It's like a wee tardis, tis even the same colour. 🤫
It’s got Maxxis tyres and the must be Super Tackys, which is cool if you ignore that they suddenly look totally shagged
It’s a Defender so...
Everything, as it makes me smile 😃
It can be a 2 seater Van, or a 7 seat comfortable family mover.
Its a square box, so very practical use of physical dimensions.
Has a driving position higher than most.
zafira here !!
The boot has an endless combo of seats up down or slid back & forward
can swap it from carrying 1,2,3,4 or 5 kids to a mini van in about 30 seconds
I can get mine and the Mrs' bike in without taking the wheels off and I can sleep in it if needs be. Plus it counts as a car, not a van.
It's cheap to run.
Was cheap to buy new (list was £11,700, I paid £7.700).
That it has a little plastic tab on the windscreen for car park tickets.
Is comfortable for long journeys.
It has good aircon.
I could fit a towbar to it for the bike rack.
That even after 110k it looks like new after a proper valet. The MOT place I use always comment that it could pass for a 30k mile car or less.
But the killer is this:
That in 110,000 miles absolutely nothing has gone wrong with it. Not even a bulb has blown! Original battery, clutch and exhaust. It had new front brakes at 68k but everything else has been done as regular service items.
Compared to my previous car, a 2005 Fiesta, which at the same mileage had cost me:
2 new gearboxes at 23k and 68k.
3 clutches due to thrust bearing seizure.
A new driver's seat - the folding mechanism broke then collapsed.
Had a continuous vibration through the steering wheel.
2 alternators and 4 batteries.
Every MOT it needed new headlights (failed tilting mechanism) and at least 1 front spring, both common faults.
Trim would just fall off on it's own accord.
Decided at a petrol pump to just throw off it's timing belt. Drove in fine, went to start and it just turned then clunked. Looked under the bonnet and there was the timing belt beside the pulley!
I'm not parting with the current car until it dies. Never thought I'd say that about a Skoda.
My car (Ford C-Max Grand) seats 4, 5, or 7. Plus sliding doors in the rear means the kids don't open them into other cars in car parks, which is nice.
Wife's new Leaf: has one of those virtual overhead parking cameras that shows you all round the car. I quite like that. Plus it is stupid cheap to run.
The driving god behind the wheel.
Ancient Zafira here. It fits bikes or the kids in with ease. It was cheap to buy and is relatively cheap to run.
It's got so many dents + been extensively keyed (thanks ex :p ) that I don't care about it getting damaged anymore.
My Passat estate. Super spacious boot, great drive, excellent fuel consumption over 60 mph on A roads.
- Android Auto means I can use Google Maps (even though it has sat nav) and listen to Spotify without having to fiddle about with a cable.
- DAB radio
- It's an estate so carrying a bike is easier.
- Rear seats go down with the pull of a couple of levers, rather than having to climb around the back of my old car moving seatbelts out of the way & removing the seat bases.
- It's a nice metallic burgundy/red colour.
- Tons of sockets for charging stuff (2 in the front, plus a 12v socket, 2 in the back & a 12v socket in the boot)
It has a small steering wheel so feels “racey”.
My folks had the first version of the Nissan Almera. It was bland as anything and bog spec, however the gearstick was close to the steering wheel like a racing car and it had a short throw and positive action. So it felt really good ripping through the gears and redlining it as you approached 60mph relatively sedately.
As for my current car - what's good about it? Well it just failed it's MOT, but it failed on a rubber boot on the drop link (which is a £25 part) and that's the first time its failed in 14 years.
Oh and DSGs are ace.
Everything, I love it.
DSG and 4x4 means it does Comedy quick launches, it's not really fast per-se, but 0-20 it's really quick, perfect for the traffic light Grand Prix.
DAB and CarPlay.
Interior LED strips you can change the colour of, the kids LOVE it.
Heated seats, main beam lights that steer about.
Auto everything, lights, wipers, handbrake, it's got steering assist, but most importantly you can turn that off, you can't in my wife's car and it's frankly stupid and dangerous.
Huge amount of space.
Does 50mpg if you're careful.
It’s one of the few things my mum recognises and it makes her happy
Its nice and comfy and everything works.
It's never let me down and it's paid for.
It's not so shiny that I'd stress over the odd scratch.
I can put the seats down from the boot, never realised how useful that would be
Yes I have this in my Golf Estate. Why don't all cars have this?!
07 plate Seat Altea. Ex rep car with nearly 180K mileage but still a pleasure to drive. The turbo is whistling a bit so that may be the end of it but I intend to run it for as long as I can.
P-Jay that sounds like my wife's brief for a car - what is it?
Big old sweet deo. It's got my bike cleaning kit in the boot, along with mobi washer, I've stashed spare tubes for race bmxs to 2.5" 29ers. I wired a 3.5mm jack into the stereo so I can stick the music off my phone on. It's been to Alpe d' Heuz four times in the last five years and got the sticker to prove it. It's transported the family on some fantastic holidays. It's comfy. It's fast enough for me. I'm getting 50+mpg. The wife hasn't dented any panels in it for at least 3years.
It needs a good clean inside and out however 🙂
It's not particularly fast but it revs to 7200
I already have it, so until it dies I haven't got to go and get a car.
The fact it's not even been started for over four months now.
E63 Wagon, the 5.5 v8 makes up for my tiny pe....
Heated seats
4 wheel Drive go anywhere
Pulls bike rack/ trailers
7 seats
Has the reputation of being unreliable but this ones never let me down
Best thing is that it spends most of it's time sat on the driveway undriven by me.
Its a van .
It adjusts the clock for the change to and from summer time every year.
(And the fact that it has just *worked* every time I've needed it for the last 11 years).
heated seats are a revelation
in fact all of it is 'superb'(estate)
Take a look at the advert and find out

Edit - dirtyboy, is yours the same as mine?
Compared to the one it's just replaced, it doesn't have terminal rust in the chassis. Also does a bit more to the gallon.
It's mostly comfortable on long journeys and has a fair bit of legroom. Economy is pretty good and it can run on E85 so we can use it in the city without killing baby robins*. Also has a huge boot for dogs and stuff.
VW Passat.
It's a cavernous, frugal estate car that's old enough that we don't need to give a shit if the kids/bikes get it dirty or someone dings it in a car park.
Does 50mpg with ease . Big enough to roll a bike or pram in easily without dismantling while remaining a reasonably compact foot print
Was cheap so don't worry about parking it in tight spaces etc.
It's the most fun per £ around I think
It is free to fuel.
I've basically had nothing but bangers for 15 years, 2 years ago I bought a 2 year old VW Golf and I never knew what delicious delights I would be showered with.......auto handbrake, working air conditioning, bluetooth and DAB radio. Add to that 60mpg and that makes me a fairly happy bunny
Super smooth and powerful electric drivetrain.
The fact that I effectively have a fuel station on my drive.
Driver profiles that tailor EVERYTHING. Seating position, mirrors, steering wheel reach and rake, regen, driver mode, etc.
Free over the air updates that improve performance. The sort of software update I can get on board with!
Edit. Remote climate control via an app, for those cold winter mornings and barmy summer days when the car has been left in the sun. Game changer.
Heated memory electric leather seats.
Upgraded stereo.
Auto climate that works.
Auto everything else.
Very safe in a crash.
Steering adaptive headlamps.
Warbly torquey engine.
Can get any non-tandem bike in the back seats down.
Bad-
Expensive
Uncool
Noise in drivetrain could be failing auto gearbox
It fits in perfectly with my STW profile
Mk1 Skoda Octavia vRS estate
It's like an old pair of slippers. I bought it new in 2005, left it with my ex-wife when we split up, she traded it in, then a couple of years ago I fancied another one so I put 'Skoda Octavia vRS estate' into Autotrader and a tidy example was the first one thatcame up (full service history etc). I looked at the number plate and it was my old one and it was in a garage 3 miles away. He'd literally listed it ten minutes earlier. so I nipped down and bought it. Again. It's got 3 names on the log book. Me, the bloke who bought it, then me again 😀
I figured we were just destined to be together
Cost me bangernomics money and it just keeps running. Just passed its MOT with nowt needed. Happy days
Head Up Display. Not just a gimmick. I don’t like audible turn-by-turn for the sat nav so would occasionally miss a turn, but not anymore. I can scroll through radio stations & playlists without taking my eyes off the road now too.
Toyota Avensis D4D, sips fuel even if you drive it like you stole it, not that anyone would.
Nothing ever goes wrong.
Got a GR Yaris on order, I'll update the thread in January with sh1t off a shovel, my Mr Sensible days are over.
Car:- 1986 Porsche 951
It accelerates almost as well in 5th as it does 3rd, until it bounces off the rev limiter at 150ish (I assume). It's also 34 years old so still fun without breaking speed limits.
I can fix it myself.
Can get two MTBs in it or one MTB, spare wheel set, tools and luggage.
Van:- 2019 Transit connect L2
Comfortable, economical, great radio, love the cruise control. Can drive all day without much fatigue, which is handy as I sometimes do drive all day.
Six litres of LS2 V8 which sound rather naughty.
Everything else is a bit shit though TBH.
Free fuel until Oct 2021
Netflix
You Tube
Beach Buggy Racing 2
For me,
Double clutch gearbox
Heated seats
adaptive headlights
Auto wipers
And the nearside door mirror that angles down when I go into reverse so I can keep an eye on those pesky alloy wheel damaging kerbs when parking
Jealous of the adaptive cruise control in the wife's car though
Good old PCP...for an affordable monthly payment getting me into cars I don't have a cat in hells chance to afford to buy!
Still miss the heated windscreen from my old SMax though. The automotive world can never claim to have progressed until these are standard on every car.
2006 signum
It cost me a weeks salary when I bought it 7 years and 70,000 miles ago and its still running.
Nothing else
It's big but not too big
Auto everything
Heated screen and seats
Fast {enough for me} yet does good mpg for what it is
Big glass roof is nice (I'm told - I can't see it)
Very comfy
Has air suspension which allows you to lift/lower the car and make it all squidgy or rock hard (missus) at the push of a button.
Cold starts and the pops and bangs on the over run always make me smile.
Interior LED strips you can change the colour of, the kids LOVE it.
Hah - mine has that too - and my kids love it too. It also has a randomised option so it just keeps changing the colours as you drive.
