We will be in touch
I've just bought a GoPro HD Hero, I'm running a iMac & iMovie & have loads of questions.
Anyone know the of best forum to join to ask questions about editing.
I've joined http://goprouser.freeforums.org/ for help on getting the best out of the camera, but as video editing is new to me, i wanted to find the most relevant forum to help.
I'm in a similar boat but using a PC and Sony Vegas.
The forum you mention has some good stuff on it but I've not really found many forums which have seemed that helpful yet. Will post up if I find something on my travels
The forum dedicated to your NLE software of choice would be a good place to start for advice and tips. There is bound to be an iMovie one out there.
Apples own forums?
Handy things - Mpeg Streamclip/external FW HD. Find out about Editing and delivery codecs.
Don't show anyone unedited footage - they get bored and will die.
Find your local Media access centre/project, They can offer training and access to stuff that makes your life easier.
sometimes the best place to start is to just mess around with it.
I'm not saying i'm good at creating videos, but as time has gone on, I've become more confident in doing it.
To begin with, I would just shoot the footage, take it back to the computer and start chopping it down into the good bits. A good thing to try would be get your footage and edit it to the music ... so splitting the scenes to stages and beats of the music.
Then from there, you'll learn what shots look good, and you'll even start planning shots or trying to get shots to look a certain way before you even take them.
One thing i'll say though is that if your filming a group, you knacker yourself cause you charge ahead, stop, setup, film, packup, catchup, charge ahead, stop, setup, film, etc etc etc .
Typically, unless your filming a complete descent or something, then i've found that an hours footage typically churns down into about 6 t0 10 mins of footage. you do get a lot of wastage.
but most of all, I would get our there and mess about with it, and dont worry about trying to be making the next best dvd there is, just enjoy it.
I've found YouTube very helpful for learning Premiere. I can now cut/edit/trim and use green screens for GPS overlay, learnt it all in a couple of days. I still have a long way to go, so many controls I haven't a clue about.
Creative Cow is a great resource for videographers and Lynda tutorials are excellent - (you have to pay for these though and they are quite expensive)
Keep going, video editing is hugely rewarding when you achieve a look you want, a bit like hair dos...
