We are not huge tv watchers, but we seem to have run out of stuff to watch (or at least run out of programmes we know about). We like gritty dramas such as Luther and still plod on with Silent Witness (although bored of that now). We also like stuff like West Wing and The Wire.
We have Netflix, Amazon Prime and limited Sky stuff (on a basic bundle with Virgin so get Sky One and Sky Atlantic) along with the usual UK stuff.
So what should we be hunting out next?
Finished watching COBRA on Sky last night.
It was utterly predictable but gripping nonetheless. Worth watching for Prime Minister Begbie alone.
I now live in fear of geomagnetic storms and societal collapse.
Loving The Outsider on Sky Atlantic. Murder detectivy type stuff, but with much Stephen King weirdness thrown in.
Also Wisting, if you don't mind subtitles (Beeb4).
22 pages of stuff here, no need for another thread

Russian Doll, Succession, Perpetual Grace LTD, Catch 22, Better Call Saul, Counterpart, Killing Eve, Mr. Robot, The Americans, Watchmen, Umbrella Academy were some that I enjoyed.
Sex Education, Watchmen, The Lefovers

We gave up on it after about four episodes, it was too far fetched for my liking. Full on militia groups formed within a few days of having no electricity to make a cup of tea...…. I don't think so.
Also, if you like completely silly large hairy man smites monsters, shags hot babes, and takes a bath, The Witcher is pretty entertaining. Very silly, but entertaining.

You've obviously never switched off the WiFi in a house full of teenagers.

It was absolutely preposterous nonsense, with not so much holes in the plot as huge great yawning chasms.
We absolutely loved it! Especially when he starts to get a bit Begbie in the final couple of episodes 😀
We're a few episodes into The Outsider and its getting good.
The Stranger starts on Netflix in a couple of days which looks great!
My faves recently: Chernobyl, What We Do In The Shadows, Euphoria, Sex Education, Yhe Other Two, You and for real "America **** Yeah!" guilty mindless fun and old lady perving, Seal Team - which is often a comedy for the wrong reasons.
I'm not sure if it still on Iplayer but Hinterland was great for slow burning welsh grit. and for some West Wing-esque action Designated Survivor on Fletnix was an easy watch. Jack Ryan on Prime is also good, though as someone on here I believe pointed out the main character does look like Martin Freeman playing Jason Bourne, but I wouldn't write it off just because of that.
but more than any of the above...The Expanse
Well, If we are including shows with space ships in them - definitely The Expanse! I forgot about that. I think there is a in thread here about Sci Fi shows fairly recently.
The Messiah on Netflix was decent to (a few ropey cliched bits but generally watchable).
the shield is on All 4 just now - seven seasons of gritty LA cop drama...

And Avenue 5
Hidden Welsh noir on i-player. Superb although upsetting.

Interesting you mention this - nobody I know has seen it. We've done a whole season and one episode of season 2 but have more or less given up. It's just so unremittingly bleak, without even the moments of levity or lightness that, say, Shetland has.
Does it improve at all??
Another one to chuck into the mix: Giri/ Haji, was on BBC last year, may still be there. Very good
Shetland
Is far as I am concerned, they mis-spelt the title of that series.
Nicko, I don't know if improve would be the right term but it's worth persevering. I think after the first few episodes you are invested in the characters and their arc so you have to follow it to the end. but it isn't light and breezy viewing no.
but the OP did say gritty
@nicko74 you need to embrace Welsh noir. Shetland is pure puff to be honest, imo.
Line of duty on Netflix.
Mad Men on Netflix, first series of Fortitude on Sky Atlantic, Man in the High Castle (Amazon) was decent enough although they were clearly told to wrap the entire series up in a hurry with two episodes of season 4 to go.
Utter shite: Treadstone on Amazon - an affront to Bourne, laughably ridiculous.

😀 fair enough! I'll tell the OH that we have to persevere, dodgy cop/ main cop who just needs to see a therapist/ etc... Lloyd is excellent, btw, and about the main reason to watch
If you missed it originally I highly recommend The Bridge (The Danish Version)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bridge_(2011_TV_series)
Also assume you have seen Breaking Bad?
Just finished watching Sex Education on Netflix, thought it would be another cheesy teen programme, but there are some very good serious story lines behind it all. And the Wye valley where its filmed is stunning.
If you haven’t watched This is England then that’s on All 4, though you do need to watch the Film first which isn’t on All 4.
Far better than some of the shite some have recommended 😉
It’ll make Luther look lightweight.
True Detective is also good, season 1 better than 2.
... though as someone on here I believe pointed out the main character does look like Martin Freeman playing Jason Bourne...
As the actor played the same character in the US "The Office" as Martin Freeman did in the UK "The Office", that doesn't seem like a stunningly novel observation.
Yeah, but I’d never seen the Office US when I made the connection. I subsequently felt a bit stupid/under informed. But observant as ****.

Yes, worth persevering and it's really just getting used to a different format. Agree, Lloyd is good!
You may consider another Welsh noir called Hidden, second series is still available on i-player. Again, slow burning but excellent.
Bosch and Ray Donovan on amazon Money heist on Netflix
Top Boy Summerhouse / Top Boy and Sex Education. Both Netflix.
Just blitzed through SE S2 this week, brilliant TV.
Another vote for Wisting on iPlayer.
Detectorists, series 1 back on IPlayer. Just brilliant. More recently I really enjoyed The Spy, with Sacha Baron Cohen as the agent. Takes a while to get past seeing Borat, but well worth it.
All of Inspector Montalbano has been put up on BBC iplayer recently, if you can handle subtitled Italian.
Schitt’s Creek is a work of comic genius. Netflix. You’ll wonder what the fuss is about to start with, but by the end of series 2 you’ll be amazed at how something so frothy transforms into something wonderful.
The Goes Wrong Show on t'iPlayer - stupid slapstick genius brilliantly done. 🙂
Dark on Netflix. It's German, so you'll need to add subtitles, avoid the dubbing. Don't let that put you off one of the finest TV shows nobody seems to have heard of. It's very intricate and complex. It can be difficult to follow at the start due to the plot and characters but if you stick with it it's fantastic. Brain meltingly amazing TV.
'The Boys' on Prime is a good watch too, if you like superhero stuff with a dark twist.
We also like stuff like West Wing and The Wire.
If you liked The Wire then you'll probably like Treme
Is no one else watching Good Omens? It's brilliant.
watchmen was great
succession, both series, excellent throughout
escape at dannemora was a highlight of early last years tv
hannibal was really underrated, shame, cancelled before final season
the pass ('pagan peak' depending on when and where you're watching) was quite good
westworld s3 coming in march, who knows whether we get a total delight like S1 or the confusing rotten turd that was S2.
"Silent Witness" man you have to give up on that, it jumped the shark years ago.
I've just watched the Zanzibar episode of Inside no 9, up there with the silent one in terms of being very funny and wonderfully clever, superb. I followed that immediately with the first episode of The Goes Wrong Show, totally different humour but utterly delightful.
I'm rewatching 'Home' on channel 4 before season 2 comes out
'Admit it, you like humiliating refugees. You are Hungary in a dress'
“Silent Witness” man you have to give up on that, it jumped the shark years ago.
I agree, but we are (as I said in the OP) plodding on with it.
Have started watching The Fall though (just the first episode so far) and really enjoying it. I think Hidden will be next.
Choo choo Rob Bell has returned with a second series of Walking Britain's Lost Railways
Started yesterday on Channel 5 at 8.00pm
The Stranger over on netflix. Very gripping drama about blackmail with multiple stories converging... Binge watched it over two nights/days.. 👍
