I’ve got a week coming up in Lyon with some friends for the rugby World Cup at the end of the month, but I know little of the city (other than it being very foody) or places to visit while we’re there.

any recommendations for must see tourist attractions, nice districts to mooch about in, good bars or areas for a bit of night life, nice food markets or places to eat etc etc

our matches are mainly evening games do we should have a fair bit of time to explore the city. Will also have a car for exploring further afield

TIA

there's an indoor bike park thats pretty cool - you can rent a dj bike there and play on the airbag.

it can be unbearably hot in the summer, but lyon's fairly pleasant. Easy to escape to the alps if its too hot.

The palace is impressive, well worth a visit. You might get lucky and glimpse the Lyon King

Don't let the good people of Lyon hear that

My cousin used to live there so we've been a couple of times.

Musee de Confluence

There's a market / food market along the river iirc

Parc de la Tete d'Or

There is a shopping/restaurants place in Parreche/Confluence that had an indoor climbing wall place in it

Short Uber/taxi ride out of town is a go ape type place, which was fun

There's a little museum of movie special effects that is surprisingly impressive and includes some big ticket movies

The walk along the river is really nice as well.

You'd need to check for recent reviews / check things are still open as it's been a few years since we were last there.

Allow lots of time at the airport. It was shambolic outbound at passport control when we were last there (before Brexit truly bit) and unless it's improved make sure you've eaten before you go air side.

Also we found Metro and trams much better than the buses where possible.

Vieux Lyon.

Roman ruins (Unesco)

Musée de Confluence.

The film prop musuem is small but indeed great.

Fourvière via the funicular for great views.

Croix Rousse: boho popular wth good views and a bit cooler.

The bike path tunnel under la croix rousse...

Spent a lot of time in Lyon. Lived no further than an hour and a half away from it for the last 15 years. Lert me know if you need ideas of things to do around and about. Am also a qualified and fully legal trekking guide should you wish to enjoy some of thé nearby mountains.

We cycled through the other year - we passed quite a few cool looking barge bars on the river. We stopped an had a beer in one - a barge tied to the quayside but had quite a nice vibe.

I kinda regret not spending any time in Lyon as it seemed quite a nice place, quite studenty in a good vibrant arty sort of way. Some cool architecture too.

for me, slightly off the beaten track:

Jardin des Curiosites - Very nice small park with big views across the city

The Adobe of Chaos - A artists house that is an art installation in itself, within a residential area. Really interesting!!

Beautiful city though, personally I really like the Confluence for the interesting architecture!!

Long time since I went, but I enjoyed visiting the centre d'histoire de la résistance et de la déportation. There’s also a Roman amphitheatre that’s worth a visit. Fauvière at dawn was memorable, but that was after an all-nighter so my memory might be a bit hazy…

Lumiere Museum - the factory owned by the film pioneers.

Got lots of ideas from the Tourist Info when buying the museum and transport pass.   Great place to spend some time.
