Got oak flooring in the living room and its not "that" robust we dont wear shoes in the living room and its still showing a fair few character marks already - it wasnt cheap crap either....

Dont fancy sticking it in the hall where we do walk with spd shoes.

Am i stuck with carpets and the associated cleaning of ?

Its to go on a concrete pad floor its about the size of yer average bathroom with the stairs coming off it ( which will be oak clad) if it makes any difference.

Would a decent quality laminiate be more robust but still look ok ? The cheap laminate the old owner used looks crap but is not marking.

What finish do you have on the lounge floor?

Maybe use unfinished oak and coat with a bombproof lacquer like Bonakemi Traffic or somesuch? Or ply base and one of those linoleum floors with fancy names...Amtico or Karndean. I imagine they'd be friendlier to your spuds.

Oak is One of the most robust hardwood timbers.

Has deadlydarcy says use Bonakemi Traffic on the boards
brilliant stuff a little expensive but the best out there and its
quick drying 😉

Original Victorian tiles are very hard wearing and easy to keep.

We have a three storey house, on the ground floor is a hallway, kitchen/diner and toilet. It has tiles throughout, which are ace for a MTBer.
