Now I'm not one for ringing for the building inspector as we know but I want to possibly build a "structure" in my garden that will be a shed but also a summer house type thing separated via am internal wall, I don't want issues planning wise further down the line so what can I actually build. Was also thinking of a single slope pent type roof so that we could even sit up on top, but that's maybe just a bit of a pipe dream.
Garden is a good 6/7 m wide and 20m long.

Depends on the garden and how far from a boundary but guidance here: http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/permission/commonprojects/outbuildings/

I expect you will be limited to 2.5m high by planning restrictions and 30m2 floor area to avoid building control. No chance of an upstairs without planning unless you dig down first.

As i've recently discovered, it's less (15m2 I think) if you live inside the boundary of a designated world heritage site. the boundary is along my back fence..

Planning portal says this:
In National Parks, the Broads, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and World Heritage Sites the maximum area to be covered by buildings, enclosures, containers and pools more than 20 metres from house to be limited to 10 square metres.

so 10m2 but only if it is more than 20m away from the house. There may be other restrictions, though.
