RJ11 at both ends generally, yes.

10m?  Move your router.

Wilkinsons/Wilkos might have them (they seem to have shops in most towns).

Oh, ok then.  Don't move your router.  What are you trying to achieve?

i need a cable to be able to move the router further form the entry point in the house - hence asking for the longer cable? not sure what you think i'm asking?? router is in the kitchen currently as is the telephone/modem socket. I want it in the lounge.

currently run a cable for the phone into the lounge from kitchen and wish to do the same for the router

Note, you may loose some speed by having such a long extension. Try to get the best quality one you can find.

Yes, but, that doesn't answer my question.  What are you trying to achieve - why do you want to move it?

This is where I'm going with this.  Extending the DSL cable in the manner you suggest could well have a severe detrimental effect on the line speed / quality.  Unless the reason you want to move it is aesthetic, there's probably a better solution to whatever it is you're trying to do.

purely aesthetics and practicality of where it is situated. No internet connected devices in kitchen, tv in lounge and where we spend a lot of time.

broadband is around 30mb so not super fast - not sure that the cable run (which is only about 8ft longer than the cable that is supplied) will have that much of a detrimental effect on performance and it means i can hardwire the tv as opposed to using wifi

You'd be amazed how much a longer phone cable can add noise to the line and therefore may drastically reduce speeds.

If you are looking to hardwire the TV then you'd be better getting a Network switch and a 10m Cat5 cable and running that from the router to the living room.

General advice is to have the router/modem as close to the phone socket as possible and have as short a cable as possible.

Plus the switch will give you 5/8/16 sockets to plug stuff into.

leave the router where it is, run ethernet to the other room.

^^ What @H1ghland3r and @grumpysculler said.

Are you confusing feet and metres?

If you do need a longer cable, worth getting something actually designed for ADSL, not just a phone cable. ie twisted pair, not a flat cable. It will be a lot better for avoiding interference etc.

Kenable are good, they have this one for £2, usually pretty quick delivery. https://www.kenable.co.uk/en/adsl-rj11-cables/7940-kenable-adsl-2-high-speed-broadband-modem-cable-rj11-to-rj11-10m-black-007940-5055383479405.html

Not suggesting it's optimal but I've got a 25m run of that cheap + shitty flat white telephone cable between phone point and modem, including about 5m worth coiled up then knotted through a load of other wires.  Still get 50 odd meg through it, never loses sync either.

I know it's brain dead, f knows why I set it up like that, but it does work.
