To enhance images etc, what do you use, looking not to pay premium prices but looking for good run of the mill software with a price to match, advice sought please..

Picasa, Gimp and paint.net are all free and offer varying levels of ability.

Now you have reminded me I see Picassa mentioned a lot - possibly on Flickr, Thanks

Try Paint.net. It does nearly all the editing you should ever need to enhance images as a non-commercial user. It's a free download and really easy to use.

Lightroom or aperature (if you use a mac) for cataloging and basic enhancements

Picasa is good for free, reads most RAW files as well I think.

Having taught Photoshop, I'd say either PS Elements, or GIMP. Elements is perhaps a teeny bit more stable, and will work fine with graphics tablets and that. Haven't worked with GIMP really, but it looks very good indeed for a free download.

Problem with GIMP is that the gui is ****ing horrible.
