New job starts soon and I need something a bit smarter than the Nike cargo trousers I have been wearing. However, the fashion seems to be for skinny flat fronted trousers. Even if I go up a couple of waist sizes, I often can't get them past my quad. If I can, it generally means the glutes are pulling them too tight across the front.
Be great if someone had the same problem but had found a solution. As there will be a lot of travelling, something non-iron, crease resistant or easy care would be good.
Please help.
Ralph Lauren chinos are good, but not cheap!
Equally Gap are well worth a look.
When not in a suit, I wear a mix of Gap, RL or M&S trews, with a proper shirt. For travelling, I have some comfy M&S linen jeans. Lightweight, wash easily in a sink (have you seem hoet laundry fees?) and dry out flat(ish) hung up under the aircon unit in a hotel!
I have a similar problem Onza, my waists a 32 but I need a 34/36 or they pull too tight round my thighs. I found H&M fit me best.

😆 😆 😆
M&S all the way.
I have the same problem (due to fat not muscle though) and find them a nice fit and they are pretty reasonable.
Also good because you can buy extra trousers for them. If it's informal, leave the jacket and you're still ok.
As for fashion, it doesn't really matter. Smart is smart and skanky is skanky. The only exception to this is a double-breasted jacket - NO!!!

Darcy....you knows you loves it! 😉
Christ alive, how big are some of your thighs that you need to buy "special" trousers?
Some of us, I'm looking at you Darcy, are prepareD to suffer for our fashion. MTFU and squeeze into some tight but stylish trousers.

I wonder this as well, I used to think I had 'cycling quads' until I went on a diet and discovered there was a lot of fat in there too, do you have fatty quads?

How smart is smart?
If you just need a pair of trousers, I highly recommend, bear with me, George at Asda.
I had to buy some a while back after going to my parents one weekend and forgetting to take some work clothes with me. I was going straight to work on Monday morning from their house.
I didn't want to spend loads on another decent pair of trousers just to get me through one day at work, so got a cheap pair from Asda.
Thing is, they fit just as well if not better than my 'proper' trousers that cost about 3x the price, they don't tend to crease as much & are lasting very well.
CF was right, wearing a pair myself today. RLP

He's not the only one.
Mine's all muscle, and I hate buying trousers. Aged 21, almost NOTHING on the High street has enough room round the quads/glutes even when I go up sizes; I can't even get in them never mind move! I've to this day only found two sets that fit me: Gap Chinos and something from that damn House of Fraser (I was desperate, they were the only place with ANYTHING that had enough room for me to even get into, but b****r me they were expensive).
Aged 21 and you're buying chinos?
What measurement are these colossal thighs?
(Don't what ever you do google search for FAT LEGS IMAGE)
M&S machine washable suits work for me and I have the same problem getting trouser to fit... Sometimes need to get a size bigger waist that I might otherwise need but that's ok.
KT - always had the problem - very skinny or fairly fat. In fact that has made next to no difference to the size of my legs.

Can't find the tape measure, but trust me I've tried getting into anything "trendy" and can't do the waistband up. The only ones high street shops seem to stock are "Tapered slim" (for skinny people). I've asked for other cuts and they don't do them. I can get in trendy "loose" jeans, but I can't move.
Jeepers, it's an outrage! We should start a help group or something.
Strangely, no. 😉
So really this is a case of Athletic thighs don't fit into the current trend of slim fit trousers then?

Naturally fat legs? Some areas of spot fat can be hard to shift.
😉
I know it's not the fashion at the moment, but look for something that is loose fit and maybe consider pleats at the front.
I fint that Charles Tyrwit (?) trousers are fairly generous in the leg and fit at the waist, maybe you could try some of those?

Just buy straight fit then?
Gap as suggested or Banana Republic do some decent smart trousers. I find the cut fits my "strong legs" rather well 🙂

I can cope with colleagues laughing as I walk down the corridors. It's fine.
DezB - what about some suede chaps?
Naturally fat legs?
Possibly 😉
I would definitely go for something that highlights the big and bulging quads and, I imagine, rather tight glutes. Offices can be very dull places and just a little something to brighten up a girls' day goes a long way. 😉
Mmmm, suede
Lots of suggestions there guys, thanks. I'm happy to see it's not just me that has this issue.
As I've got older, my waist has increased and my thights shrunk (I spin more now). It's still a problem though.
At the peak, I was a 32" waist and a 26" thigh.
More like a 34" waist now. Just measured the thigh, it's still 26"
stop. hammertime
I get all my trousers in the US. They are much more "spacious" in the thigh department.
I can testify that fat is not the issue here, being built like a brick plophouse, is. Onzadogs legs are so solid you could crack rocks on them.
I think the Hammerpants are a good comedic option, but I'm not sure how seriously his employer would take him on his first day in a new job.

Jesus wept. It's not like non-skinny trousers aren't available anymore just because fashionistas are running around in their sister's jeans.
Debenhams, M&S, GAP, TM Lewin - all high street chains that will sort you out with trousers/suits no probs.
Tommy Hilfiger or Ralph Lauren chinos also work.
You can't have looked very hard. I bet you went in topman or river island couldn't get in their skinniest trousers and thought "This'll make a great story on teh internetz that makes me look awesomely muscley and tough and stuff" Even your missus has come on to say how awesome you are.
FFS.
Just checked, I've got a 34" waist and 25" thighs. ASDA and M&S kecks fit me fine.
Er... Stuey.
It seems you've never had this problem then. I have 30inch waist and 24inch thighs (per thigh), this makes trousers a problem. Not just the 'skinny fit' ones.
Of course I'm sure you'll attempt to refute the above sizes, but if I have to I'll break out the tape and the camera. Anyway, I have this problem and I'm finding GAP and M&S trousers have an acceptable fit going up a waist size and wearing a belt.
27" thighs, 34" waist. Used to be a 32" waist with 26" thighs (got a bit fat lately...).
Of course the skinny trousers don't fit but it isn't exactly a chore to find stuff that does.
I'll happily concede that with a 30" waist this is more likely to be an issue.
M&S they are a good fit and last well!
I'm proud to say I have never felt the need to measure my thighs........
