Thnks Stoner. Not lately, need to get a larger body of work framed, which is this summer's task. Looking for a decent venue, a bit thin on the ground hereabouts. Planning an exhibition this Autumn, maybe a 'pop-up' scenario 🙂

Malvern Rider, it really is very nice. I have a small collection of Malvern paintings scattered around my house, so I don't get too homesick, plus my daughter loves Malvern and always looks forward to it when we go see friends and family.

It is, yes. Though I've built a few splitable rear triangles for other people who've built their own belt conversions, and they seem to be getting on okay. The main thing that's sub-optimal is that the belt has to be folded when the bike folds - I've got it bending in as large a radius as possible.

There's not too much weight in the gate at all actually, the hinges should last but easily changed if not. We've a kid's party coming up in 4 weeks and I had to make the back garden secure. The gate took under an hr, the posts about the same to cut into the drive. I went with metal supports for obvious reasons, though now I think about it I really should have gone for concrete posts cemented into the ground.

Tubing and elbows from ebay I think.
Elbows are stainless, tube was galvanised malleable iron, put the tube in a pillar drill and filed off the galvanising, then polished it and lacquered it.

Had a big hunk of ash kicking about, so I split it down the middle, smoothed it off with a hatchet and then power-planed/belt-sanded it.

Chiselled a couple of round sockets on the underside to take some off-cuts of turned pole I had left over, bit of post-mix, a splash of cuprinol and a coat of varnish, bish-bash-bosh and I've a very comfy bench to sit and watch the kingfishers in my brook. 🙂

I made a coffee table from an old scaffolding board.

Never done anything like it before - wanted something a bit low and rustic looking. Cut the boards to size, belt then orbital sanded them down, glued & dowelled everything together & hey presto.

Bit of lime wax & it's done.

Can't believe it turned out even, square and level - might make something else now!

Cheers Ben, what timber did you use for your steps? I read that Alder lasts very well in damp conditions, and had lots growing along the brook so used that. Started out using bought-in half-round stakes but at a quid a pop, it's far cheaper to split 2' lengths of alder and then sharpen a point with an axe...

Love the scaffold table! Really suits the room...

I made a door for a lady from work a couple of years or so ago. That lady became my other half, and now I've made her a door canopy to go over it.
Sadly I couldn't now charge her for it!

I designed the framework in Sketchup picking up on the heart motif she originally asked for in the door shutters, imported it into cnc software and cut it out on the router. The frame is made from old bench tops from the painting and decorating dept where I work, hence the paint splatters.
The 'rafters' are rescued engineered oak floor boards and I shingled it with bandsaw cut oak which I later scorched.
She loves it. 🙂

It wasn't cheap at around 8k, but it's a seriously useful bit of kit and I'm learning more every week on it by doing lots of [s] foreigners[/s] important testing and research projects. 😆

Edit; That Ooznest one looks awesome. I'd consider that for home I reckon. I like how it fits a hand router.
Ours is liquid cooled so is much quieter than a regular router.

Have you seen the buildyourcnc.com stuff from the US? It's all effectively wooden CNC machines - apart from the rails/drives etc.
I can't work out if it's a good idea or the wrong material for the job; I suspect it's the latter.

They do an 8x4' vertical mounted router to save space, so perhaps that could be your next bit of capital investment!!

World of CNC (aka Marchant Dice) are overpriced for what you get, and that's putting it in a way that won't get this site threatened with legal action.

Routers aren't really my thing (machines built out of big lumps of cast iron made to much metal are!), but routers built from wood are usually pretty poor. They're usually dimensionally unstable, resonate, and generally not that strong. If you do put the time/effort into building a wooden structure that is strong and stable (aka fully sealed torsion box construction), you would normally be cheaper/quicker making it from metal, and the metal one would still be more stable/stronger (unless you use some really stupid design!).
A well built CNC router will even handle aluminium with minimal effort.

Not making but i've spent the last two Saturdays in work tarting up an old printing press (Colombian Eagle Press, early 1800's - for the STW print buffs 😆 ) for the reception. The budget (eff all!) didn't stretch to getting the old paint removed and a lot of detail has been lost, but it turned out alright.

It's actually mid 60s - but room is identical, with the same stair erm feature.

I have lots on my phone. I'll dig them out - maybe tomorrow.
Basically it's 2 drawer units screwed together and screwed to a top rim around the bed (fixed to wall). Then ply facing to everything. But the pics wil be self-explanatory.

Edit: We made the drawers from scratch to max out the available space (and get full extension runners), but we did seriously consider just using 2 sets of 60x60x60 ikea units.

Mine are no where near as good as most stuff on here, so many talented people.

Had some left over scaffold boards and decided to be a little creative. Found some old pub sign cigarette cards online and some cast iron bottle openers.

To be mounted on the wall, but you can turn them over to see the information about the pub or sign etc. Some great ones about Royal Naval ships and found a pub sign called 'the Escape'. I paired that up with a cast iron RAF opener. The two below are the most recent ones I have completed.

Making your own speakers must be immensely satisfying 66deg. Nice work!

I did all the cabinet construction following a design by Joe D'apolito and all the components were in a kit bought from Intertechnik who also offer a crossover build service so I can't really take credit for that bit either.
Never the less my next speaker project has no option on the crossover so ill be having a go at it myself.

Stevie, as impressive as that bike is I hate to say it - it won't hold. Rear fails basic test for structural stability.

where m is members (you have four - the frame, seatstay, chainstay and dropout tab) and j is joints (you have four where each member is pinned together). If m is greater or equal then it's stable otherwise it's just a flappy box. Unless those are solid joints (as in, literally something solid preventing rotation) then the dropout bracket is going to pivot the first time that goes down a kerb.

If you want to stabilise it you either need to introduce another member or decrease the number of joints.

I get the impression he knows his way around a cad machine, beyond that I don't know. That's why I only assume the joints aren't restrained as that's how it appears. What I do know is stability as it was a massive part the structural integrity course I'm now basing my final uni project on.

You maybe haven't grasped the problem SQ's describing. He's describing the axel being able to move if the four bolted connections are able to swivel, not the instance of having a single sided rear triangle. But if non of those connections can rotate then theres not a problem.

Ah, so you've assumed that each end of the chainstays and seatstays is a pivot? Why?

I made a minus 8mm head for a Reverb as the GF has a 125mm drop post that is slightly too tall. Think I might still need to take a wee bit off the seattube but it should do the job.
