Got an hour or so of precious family videos I'd like to convert to digital . can anyone recommend any inexpensive ways to do it ..preferably based on 1st hand experience. I know there are loads of sites advertising this service but just wondered about recommendations or whether it's really easy to do it myself.
thanks in advance
Bill
Really easy to do it yourself. I did 6 videos last year. You just need a cable, vhs player & your computer. Basically stream from vhs via usb cable to your hard drive then burn to disc.
Think there is a website www.vhstodvd.something which details everything step by step.
Isn't there a local photography shop that you could use? Mine, at least, offers the service. I think the specialist audio-visual/hifi shop does too.

You need a bit more than this. Like an analogue to digital converter type thing for starters, or a video card that does this, or a specialised VHS player with onboard ADC and USB.
Plus some video editing and DVD creation software.
The cable I was referring to is a video capture cable and does the analogue to digital conversion. They're available for £3 upwards on Amazon.
Video Editing software all available for free on the internet.
It really is ridiculously easy to do yourself. Why do people try and put people off doing it themselves?
Step by step instructions on this site (not mine...just the one I used)
