I've bought a few items following recommendations on here. Most recently an Olight i3E single AAA torch that was recommended on a thread. At the time it was an impulse purchase, but it's proved surprisingly useful.

What have you bought following recommendations by by other STWers on the Forum?
Was it something you needed or did you just have to have it when you saw it?
Was it any good?

A few folk recommended a Gerber dime on the EDC thread. I ordered one and was disappointed in its micro size. I was hoping it was a wee bit bigger

I thought I'd bought a watch, still waiting to get the money back in my account.
Before that was an upgrade damper for my forks.

A pair of Blundstone boots. I used to wear approach shoes for work and play, but had soggy feet daily. I saw a review (I think) on work boots on here and read about the Blunnie's.
They're great, warm, comfortable and most importantly dry.Once clean and buffed up, they're good enough for most socially distanced social events too.

A holiday to Malcesine
A hotel stay in Barcelona
An Orange P7
A PX Kaffenback
A Kona cargo bike
A Kona fixie
Various components and accessories
Loads of cycle clothing
A waterproof jacket
Beer
A Garmin watch

Too much.
One titanium bike and a steel one.
Showers Pass jacket, Giro helmet, various tops and shorts.
Fancy knives I didn't need but are lovely to use. Passat TDI estate, Michelin cross climate tyres (not for the Passat).
Mmmmm, think I might need to spend less time on here, looks like it's costing me a fortune!

I was thinking about this the other day when the mag was moaning about a lack of review samples. I can't think of many things I've bought of the back of reviews, and not much more directly from recomendations. I tend to either have brands, similar products from several brands, or know what to look for in the spec. So headsets are cane creek, ESI or supercaz grips, chainrings are whatever 7075 is best value.

Going singlespeed

Deda fang chain keepers.

Northwave boots, still going a decade later.

ESI/supercaz silicone grips (and before that ritchey/bontranger foam ones.

Gripgrab gaiters, I can't recall where I heard of them but I can't think where else I would have heard of them.

Putoline - great

Altura attack shorts - rubbish

Shedload of stuff, based on both the forum and the website.

Rarely do I buy anything bike related without looking up what STW has to say about that particular product/service or type of product.

Hope Hoops
Giant Defy

They were 2 of the best but there are many. I seriously trust the research that people have done followed up by the real life review. The arguments can get into the real nitty gritty. This to me is, and has been, worth the subscription fee many times over.

I tend to already have a product in mind then do a google search for that product including Singletrack in the search. It surprising how often that the search comes up with a previous thread with some great comments.

Ones I can remember.

Pike forks - awesome.

Brooks Cambrium saddle - torture, but looks great so expect I'll break it in in a decade or so.

Palladium boots. - good.

Halford 1600lm light - flawed.

Did buy

A lovely little vintage Seamaster

Seiko SKX 007 - fake. But seller wasn't to know.

However! I did recently buy a shoe dryer from Amazon that was recommended on a thread. My shoes have remained dry since. So I haven't used the shoe dryer at all.

The list is frightening when I really think about it.

Skoda Octy (vrs)
Standing desk legs and cheap IKEA top.
Half speed coffee from extract
Pinnacle arkose based on the jameso thread
Fat lad at the back hi-viz top
I probably ended up with an Orange 5 because of here, actually bought it via classifieds.
Probably many many other things I've been influenced by.

Lots I'm sure but I can only really recall:

One One Summer Season (great fun)
Kaffenback (great)
Old record vice (excellent)
Berlingo (the dream!)

A Fairywell toothbrush. It was crap.

What was up with it? I have a different brand but v similar looking cheap toothbrush and it seems fine to me but I've never used a fancy branded one so maybe I don't know what I'm missing!

I'm wondering what I've bought in the last 5 years that hasn't in some way been influenced by the forum.

Putoline - definitely.
Berlingo - probably.
Genesis Longitude, Pinnacle Arkose, Orbea Occam - almost certainly.

Putoline.

Hate it

Its just a posh name for chips cheese and gravy.

This needs more recognition!
