I was thinking about this the other day when the mag was moaning about a lack of review samples. I can't think of many things I've bought of the back of reviews, and not much more directly from recomendations. I tend to either have brands, similar products from several brands, or know what to look for in the spec. So headsets are cane creek, ESI or supercaz grips, chainrings are whatever 7075 is best value.

Going singlespeed

Deda fang chain keepers.

Northwave boots, still going a decade later.

ESI/supercaz silicone grips (and before that ritchey/bontranger foam ones.

Gripgrab gaiters, I can't recall where I heard of them but I can't think where else I would have heard of them.

Putoline - great

Altura attack shorts - rubbish

Shedload of stuff, based on both the forum and the website.

Rarely do I buy anything bike related without looking up what STW has to say about that particular product/service or type of product.

Nothing yet (or at least nothing I can remember right now), but will buy that shed/garage alarm that @northwind highlighted a couple of days ago - looks good.

Hope Hoops
Giant Defy

They were 2 of the best but there are many. I seriously trust the research that people have done followed up by the real life review. The arguments can get into the real nitty gritty. This to me is, and has been, worth the subscription fee many times over.

Although moreish I'm not a fan on balance.

I tend to already have a product in mind then do a google search for that product including Singletrack in the search. It surprising how often that the search comes up with a previous thread with some great comments.

Palladium boots. - good.

Halford 1600lm light - flawed.

Did buy

A lovely little vintage Seamaster

Seiko SKX 007 - fake. But seller wasn't to know.

Not much. I have a bizarre ability to make my own decisions.
However! I did recently buy a shoe dryer from Amazon that was recommended on a thread. My shoes have remained dry since. So I haven't used the shoe dryer at all.

A Fairywell toothbrush. It was crap.

A pair of Regatta softshell trousers. They are brilliant.

A flex stem (can't remember the name) for the touring bike. It's fantastic.

The list is frightening when I really think about it.

Skoda Octy (vrs)
Standing desk legs and cheap IKEA top.
Half speed coffee from extract
Pinnacle arkose based on the jameso thread
Fat lad at the back hi-viz top
I probably ended up with an Orange 5 because of here, actually bought it via classifieds.
Probably many many other things I've been influenced by.

Lots I'm sure but I can only really recall:

One One Summer Season (great fun)
Kaffenback (great)
Old record vice (excellent)
Berlingo (the dream!)

A Fairywell toothbrush. It was crap.

What was up with it? I have a different brand but v similar looking cheap toothbrush and it seems fine to me but I've never used a fancy branded one so maybe I don't know what I'm missing!

I'm wondering what I've bought in the last 5 years that hasn't in some way been influenced by the forum.

Putoline - definitely.
Berlingo - probably.
Genesis Longitude, Pinnacle Arkose, Orbea Occam - almost certainly.

Putoline.

Hate it

Its just a posh name for chips cheese and gravy.

This needs more recognition!

A bottle of rum from a Welsh rum and cheese place.
A Cotic Solaris which is still my favourite bike.
Hope breaks.
More recently I got a decently priced Montane jacket - though not the one being chatted about on here.

Shark cordless hoover - excellent.

Bose QC35 headphones - also excellent.

Boot dryer thing - bit plastic tat quality wise but works very well.

Quite a few books from the various war / aeroplane book threads - Chickenhawk was one.

Worx Hydroshot - also excellent.

Gransfors splitting adze - also good.

Years and years ago, On one 456 frame (or was it an Inbred) - arrived pre-rusted from the factory, rode OK I suppose, didn't keep it long.

Probably some other stuff...

Also executive paper clips - after CFH's recommendation...

Polyurethene patio sealant (Stoner's recommendation) - didn't do anything at all, just as dirty the next year.

Skoda Octavia

Skoda Octy (vrs)

Make me no. 3, and I'm going to assume petrol VRS, otherwise or you didn't followed the STW recommendation.

Bose QC35 headphones

Nope - STW would have rightly told you to buy the Sony WH-1000XM3's (or whatever the model was that year)

I seem to be a recommender more than a buyer, though been sold some good route recommendations. But some lights (good) and some Aussie grit kit in their going bust sale (not very good).

A lot of stuff. But nothing clothing wise, that's a bit of a black hole in the forum.

Best thing has to be the Ooni Koda. I can forgive all crimes against fashion for that recommendation.
