a grape.

If you cut a grape nearly in half (but leave the skin connected as a "hinge") and lie it on its skin sides in the middel of the microwave it will arc across.

a foil packet of mini garlic breads
a pie - timer for 30 minutes to see if what my flatmate told me about them exploding eventually is true. It is, but we'd got bored and gone back to watching tv by the time we heard the pop (about 20 minutes IIRC)
an egg - see above, about 5 minutes, but two as a race after seeing someone do the same thing on tv.
a chocolate cake using the 5 minute chocolate cake recipe that was on here while back - and damn fine it was too

seen a thing on discovery the other day when they were microwaving stuff, a bar of soap was the best one, it just starts foaming up, very cool, think they did the grape one but can't remember what else they did.

Nukeproof does putting the metal bit in water make it work better or is that to protect it from sparking. The guy who showed me it was using the works microwave so wasn't too worried about blowing it up.

About half a dozen eggs in a bowl of water - but not because I wanted to find out what would happen, but more because I is a ****.

Once the microwave reached the prerequisite pressure (it took a a couple of minutes or so) it blew the ****ing door off - showering the kitchen with glass and egg. The spread and range, was something quite unbelievable.

I won't be doing that again.

My son, when he was about 5, had seen me microwaving readybrek, he hadn't noticed me adding the milk. One morning, before I was up, he tried to make himself some by putting a dry bowl of it in the micro for about 10 mins on the timer. It eventually exploded, blowing the door of the microwave open, shards of the bowl hit the opposite wall of the kitchen (about 5 ft away) and a little pile of smouldering readybrek was left in the middle of the turntable.

I was just glad he hadn't stood in front of it waiting for it to be ready.

Thanks for the warning, jojo. He can't reach the microwave yet, but there will surely come a time!
