For me it was 4 years ago. The wife was working and there were no kids at that point. So I got up at 2 in the morning and drove my Elise on empty roads from Edinburgh to Bridge of Orchy. I then climbed Stob Ghabhar in the dark, but didn't need a torch because there was a full moon and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. I sat at the top and watched the sun come up. Then after an hour or so just sitting there alone with my thoughts I sauntered back down another route and drove home on yet more empty roads. Aside from my wedding day and the birth of my kids it's in there at number four for the best day of my life.

What's your best christmas ever?

Took these photos too.

I was 6 and Santa left me my first proper bike. I never looked back.

Worked as an anaesthetic nurse and we did a Caesarean section one Christmas day, with winter sunshine streaming through the windows, and the radio on in the background. Just as the baby was delivered, Bananarama were singing 'Robert De Niros waiting', and everyone was quietly singing along, then the mum said 'turn it up', so everyone in the room sang along as a new baby was born.

Maybe you had to be there.. 😀

...or, rolling out of the pub at ten past twelve after a Christmas eve, when none of us got the girl, facing a dull walk home, and it had snowed...

We didn't act daft and run about, we just walked home through a magic landscape, whispering so as not to disturb the silence.

Eeeeh, those were the days.

Skiing on Christmas day with my son in France 2 years ago. He normally spends christmas day with his mum so that was the best christmas for years for me...

Plus we saw Santa skiing!

My traditional Christmas Eve mountain bike ride with my son. Breaks my heart that I can no longer do this.

Waking up in my uncle's house in the wee hours Christmas morn; looking out the window at the white, silent field and woods and seeing a cheeky fox playing in the snow.
