It'sa film about the drug wars/cartels in Mexico. It either opens with, or has in it at some point, a scene just north or south of the Mexican border where the authorities discover an old mine shaft with a large number of corpses in it (cartel victims).
It's not Traffic but it's of the same period.

Sicario opens pretty much like that.. The sequel Soldado is due soon. Cracking film.

No it's not Sicario. The film I'm thinking of is more like 10-15 years old.
Sicario was excellent so news that there is a sequel coming is exciting.
