3 families looking at heading down next summer for couple of weeks. Would prefer somewhere near beaches, not over-developed campsites. Would also consider cottage recommendations.

Good xc/trail biking would be a bonus, but not high on the priority list! 🙁

we went to St Aygulf a few years back, stayed in a split house near the beach. it's not far from Frejus/St Raphael (where we stayed for the other week of 2), some good trails round Frejus or so I'm led to believe.
depending how many kids, they might have been big enough to take 3 families (well technically they did - mrs_d & me, her parents, her sister plus her husband & daughter.

can't find the exact properties but try here: http://www.homeaway.co.uk/saint-raphael/s/659/fa/find.squery

St Aygulf, Frejus, St Raphael

A superb area I have stayed in many times, but never with a bike! The hills just inland have provided some nice walks!

If its summer holidays it will be silly busy / silly expensive right near the coast, however 20 mins inland will be much quieter and a bit cheaper.
Avoid the french summer fortnight for travelling!

Plenty of time spent on line finding the perfect location / accommodation is the key!

Been to frejus a couple of times, kids loved the beach at Cannes which is about 20mins away, it's got rock piers every 100 yds with loads of fish around them, they spent hours snorkelling round them. There's an influx of jellyfish every year at a particular time - not sure exactly when that is though
