What dog for….? – Page 3 – Chat Forum – Singletrack World Magazine Forum

There's been a number of threads recently about dogs, so I thought i'd ask for opinions. I always had dogs growing up, so did grand parents and now we'd like a family dog too. We live in a large terrace with garden and a nice park opposite. I will also be able to take it to work with me fairly regularly as I work for myself. We already have 2 cats, so i'm guessing most terriers are out. We have a 3yr old and plan to have another soon, so needs to be good with kids. Would also like one that can be trained pretty well, so it doesn't missbehave too much and comes back! Given the size of house and that i'd like to take it to work, camping and possibly biking too, I think a small to medium size would be best. Given the above, I really don't know what to look for, i'd love a lab or german shepard but it just wouldn't be practical. Over to you for advice.....

RSPCA all the way!

I've presently got a yellow Lab (Toby, 15) and a Tri-colour Cardigan Corgi Cross with a Collie (Danny, 13).

Have a look at the OZ Kelpie too, but please, visit a rescue home first and fall in love with the dog of your dreams - he / she might not be what you had first considered (I went looking for a 2nd, replacement Lab and came away with a bespoke "Danster"!

Another vote for Working Cockers!

Baxter is 15 months now and has been coming out with me on the bike for the last 3 months.

Will run along side on paths etc no problem, but discovered last night that he's really good at getting in the way in front of you on the local downhill track!!

My two. They're both great out with the bike. The collie will run all day. The Lab is happy out for a couple of hours, anything more and she starts flagging. The Lab is no good when its hot either, she really suffers. I always try and finish a ride near a river or stream so they can cool down.
