My wife is in a right state (on the end of the phone). She's ben stung on the end of her nose! (I couldn't help but laugh - didn't help the situation though)

So what do you put on bee stings? Vinegar or something else?

She is worried because her Dad was allergic to bee stings - so what are the signs of allergy?

Many thanks,

Carl.

If she was allergic she'd know by now! It'll start with numbness and swelling, she should take anti-hystamines if she has ANY doubt. If she has a really serious allergy she is probably already dead, so I suspect not.

IIRC theres **** all you can do about bee stings, they only last half an hour or so. Got one right in the middle of my chest on the boney bit, in the Alps, really hurt. Getting someone to pee on it would have been a serious fetish site content, not sure I wouldnt rather just let it hurt 😀

Swelling, difficult breathing, rash would be symptoms

Put ice on it is probably best - vinegar is for wasp stings (?)

Bees apis milifera amongst others leave a barb and a venom pouch. Make sure both are removed - tweezer the barb not the sac! I assume this has already been done?

If you get stung by a bee don't brush the bugger off

(a) It kills the bee - probably secondary to your thoughts
(b) The sac that remains continues to pump venom for several seconds afterwards!

Don't allergic reactions only happen the SECOND time you are exposed to the offending substance?

Surely it makes no difference, the bee cannot get away due to the barbed spike, so if you dont brush it off it just remains there effectively doing (b) anyway. And (a) will occur for the same reason.

Bi-carb on a bee sting (bee sting is acidic), vinegar on a wasp sting

m_f thats an interesting point. Without the substance present at some point before you'd not have built up the over-active reaction to the substance?

LOL - some not so helpful responses (but I'll remember the 'punch it out' for another time).

Thanks for the useful comments and the entertainment from the others.

Carl.

Vinegar-bicarb points are useless, as pointed out here:
http://www.insectstings.co.uk/sting-acid-or-alkali.shtml

it makes no difference, it isnt the acidity/alkali that is the cause of the majority of the pain, it is the other toxins within it.

I suffer from Bee stings in a big way (anaphylactic shock), have to keep a medi-pen thing which hurts far more that the Bee sting I can tell you 😉

Wasp stings don't trigger the same problem, funnily enough?

On the end of her nose - I feel her pain/embarrassment 😉

Aren't bee stings PH slightly acid, I don't know tbh, but they can kill me, which is quite a shame as I actually like bees in my garden;-)

I was stung by a bee once.

I paid £35 for a jar of honey.

I think if she's ringing you and you can understand her, then she's probably not going into anapyhlactic shock.

Call her a bee-murderer. That might ease the pain. *

*(I'm not great at this sympathy thing am I?)

A slice of onion on wasp and bee stings - well, it's what my Nan used to do to me.

What would Chuck Norris do?

Chuck would sting the bee, then hunt down the hive and sting them one by one until he got to the queen, who would commit suicide to avoid being stung by Chuck. That's what he'd do.
