Need a cheap Christmas prezzie for my lad, hes going through £ 10 cheap plastic Casio watches like fun, ripping them off his wrist and smashing them to bits. (everyone else has G-Shocks and just wants something a bit different)

Hes in the military doing a tough training program and half way through, just needs it for time and stop watch and be able to illuminate at a press of a button. Though of a second hand Garmin?

Any ideas lads, Cheers?

There's a reason everyone else has a G-Shock!

That aside, tried Timex?

What Flashy said. G Shocks are pretty much indestructible!

And there's so many different ones, it's not like everyone's got one the same

My timex is great for a cheap watch - so much better than the last few watches I have had (Casio). Much more comfy, much easier to use and view, not a mark on the glass in 6 months (unusual for me).

If you can't afford a suunto, get him a g shock. Served me well.
What's he doing, commando cse, p coy, divers?

I've had g-shocks, but the wrist band still fails, or the pins snap-out. More so because the thing is bulky and catches on things. Timex's etc - all the same. I'm of the opinion that v cheap casios are the way to go and if you wreck a couple a year, then its still a fairly cheap on-going cost. The cheap ones are smaller too, so catch on less things.

Uzi Guardian. Approx 30 quid delivered.

I've been using one as a work watch for a few years & it's been bulletproof. The one major difference to a Gshock is that it has a plastic face. It's fairly scratch resistant but only rated to 50M which it's been past on several occasions. Excellent for the money

He's doing RMC training at Lympstone, just over half way through and loving it, he's still only 17 years old as well so great effort.

Agreed about bulking watches like G Shocks getting ripped off with kit/clothing and other obstacles. Like the Uzi Guardian watch, look smooth and not bulky.

As you say, Gucci. 😀

Bought the Uzi Guardian, not a massive amount and the display is large and clear.

Cheers.

The Uzi looks nice but is bigger than many G-Shocks. My choice would have been a G-Shock 5600.

Look at the strap rather than the watch itself. Nato straps stay on your wrist even if you do rip a pin out or an ACU strap but they aren't that good for quick glances at the watch.

I went through about 8 straps on my Suunto. I retired the thing as I was sick of replacing the straps.

O/T - Phil another STW'er was wearing this and I like it (mrsh is buying me this for Xmas):

I was and remain a serial destroyer of watches. My experience

Suunto, okay but fragile the glass marks easily

Timex okay split one in half in an off, unlucky maybe

Casio cheapies as worn by hispters fine works replaceable

G shock 4 in 25 years on my 5th straps do break and plastic becomes brittle but the mechanism keeps working
