[Closed] What caused more mysterious holes in lawn?

Following the previous thread, can anyone suggest what's causing these?

OK - I know the lawn isn't great, probably 75% moss, 15% weeds and the rest grass, but its better than that sirromj's.

Holes made overnight, we're in a small town, not exactly rural but near lots of countryside.

Badgers have been suggested, but are urban badgers a thing?

Rabbits, mice, squirrels?

Look small for a badger.

Crows.

I know that seems unlikely, but that's what it is - they're digging up grubs.

The only way to stop this is to get rid of the grubs - but considering the state of the lawn I'm not sure I'd bother!!

Badgers don't dig holes, they plough your garden.

Needs something next to it for size but possibly fox or badger digging for food.

Are crows nocturnal?

No, but they get up before you do!

This also happens in the evening

What's odd is that none of our neighbors' lawns have been touched.

I met a badger while walking home from my mates house about 10.15 last night. We live on a large estate in a large village, but technically have a half a mile of countryside between us and a big town.

Was lovely to see!

I get them too on my equally poor lawn. I put it down to witchcraft, or rats.

But probably witches.

Rabbits or fox - most likely the latter.... we have the same.

I'd like to think its foxes or badgers, but crows probably most likely.

I reckon I'll  have to invest in a night vision camera for a definitive answer.

Looks exactly the same as the holes badgers make in my lawn every night at the minute.

Could it be something looking for ants or their lavae?  Quite a lot of ants nests  on that lawn

I thought the best thing to do with crows was stone them?

I think there's a minimum number for that, and I'm not recommending counting crows to anyone.

Looks like the damage caused by badgers. We get similar on our lawn, I bought a night vision wildlife camera and managed to catch the badgers doing the digging. They seem to randomly visit our garden.

Almost certainly badgers. We live in a fairly urban area with pockets of green and a park close by.
They have had a few digs in our fairly new front lawn , seeded 18 months ago. Neighbours lawns were left alone. Owing to where the streetlights are and my van casting a shadow over the lawn it’s effectively in darkness. It was suggested to leave the hall light on to cast some light and it seems to have stopped them again. Going to ‘plant’ some cheap solar lights around the garden. Apparently badgers don’t see well and might think that lights are reflections from a predators eyes and they will be spooked. We’ll see how it goes.

You definitely want rid! They are often carriers of nasty diseases, such as Corvid-19 for instance
