So many makes and models out there and never had one before.
Whats good on a budget? Don't want to spend more than £120-130.

more importantly, which add-on voice-over should you choose?

i say you should write to Tom-Tom, and tell them that you'll only buy one of their systems when they record a Brian Blessed voice-over.

I have had both a TOMTOM one and a Garmin Nuvi and prefer the Garmin maps but the TOMTOM interface.

However maps are more important for me so I've stuck with the Garmin Nuvi

Both Garmin and Tomtom make great units. Buy towards the bottom of their ranges (the fancy ones don't really get anything worth paying extra for), and if you want full European mapping, rather than just UK/Ireland, get it upfront as it's cheaper than adding it on later.

Must admit I was leaning towards the Garmins, no doubt just because I like thier cycling stuff.

The Tom Tom 720T Europe I have is shite. And because it's just out of warranty they have told me to shove it up my arse.

It can take up to 2 hours to locate a satellite - despite my keeping it updated with the latest quickfix stuff. The lead is hit and miss, and the battery life is less than 1 minute on a full charge...ie it only works with the lead (which doesn't work)

Look on the net at review sites, Tom Tom are shit. Get anything other than a Tom Tom.

I went for the Garmin Nuvi 265WT as it has free traffic problem updates

Thanks everyone. Bought a Nuvi 200 from Screwfix for £60.
Only want something basic, so it should be just fine.

had a tomtom loved it, then it died 😥

Was going to get another tomtom but a great deal on a Garmin Nuvi swayed me, big mistake!!

Takes you the crappest way possible

cradle cup is always falling off and ends up under your feet.

just feel like smashing it at times I hate it so much

I'm going to get a TomTom sooner than later for sure

Tomtom all the way for me
I currently have 3 & they've been used from Sydney to San Francisco & all points in between

Never had any issues in the years I've had them
