Lost the charger for my old Remington and it was getting a bit blunt. Need a new trimmer that won't break straight away.....anyone have a favorite? Tend to have a beard around 6-7mm but sometimes longer.

After my my proper clippers broke a couple of years ago I've been using a (don't laugh) one of these jobbies.

https://gillette.co.uk/en-gb/products/razors-blades-trimmers/trimmers/all-purpose-gillette-styler

It works well enough that I've not bothered to buy anything more fancy. Rechargeable batteries are a must though. Not an issue for me as I have a few things that are battery powered 😉 so I've got a rotation cycle of rechargeable batteries going on anyway.

Oooh I can help with this, my remington (one of these?) died a month or so ago (battery).  Bought a Philips Series 5000 to replace it.  Great bit of kit, huge improvement on the remington, doesn't have the pop up trimmer which I miss a bit but the Philips feels much more 21st Century compared to the 1980's vibe of the Remington.

In "recommend what you have" fashion,

https://www.amazon.co.uk/GHB-Clipper-Rechargeable-Electric-Cordless/dp/B071X89732

Bought a little while ago, can't fault it.  Ceramic blade, rechargeable Li-Ion battery (two of), charge lasts ages.

£30ish Phillips one works for me, it's predecessor lasted 10 years before the battery died (and replacing with NiMH didn't seem to cut it)

That braun one was the one I'd shortlisted, mainly because it went to 20mm and came with a bag.

I like the gillette thingy but its not disposable cheap at 14 quid and not sure it would last? waterproof though.

Never heard of GHB are they a Chinese knockoff brand?

Whatever you do don't get a Philiips One blade, I've got the top of the range one and its a garbage.  The blades cost £12 and I can never get it to cut anywhere as near as close as the dial states.

I managed to pick up one of these in Tesco for £12 in the summer and it's been great miles better than the one blade for the same price as a blade.

I have no idea, I'd never heard of them either.  I assumed they were shooting for "not GHD, honest."  As I said though, I can't fault the product.

Just looked at the box and it says "made in China" so you may be right.

I thought Wahl are the official STW men's grooming appliance maker of choice? Now I'm confused 🙁

Wahl clippers, mains powered. Works fine for hair or beards. No batteries to wear out. Though they don't have any fancy attachments if you want to do styling etc. Fine if you just want a number 4 all over.

I have https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00OCG0DO6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_NXV2BbM66523 5">these, no idea how they compare to others but they’ve lasted me 3 years, are still sharp and the charge lasts ages. If they broke, I’d happily buy another set.

do don’t get a Philiips One blade, I’ve got the top of the range one

In contrast to this, I've got the cheaper green handled one and it's brilliant. Easily the best I've used, mostly because of its simplicity. I've had mine over 2 years and only got a new blade after about 1.5 years of trimming once a week. The 3 different blades are labelled 1/3/5 which I presume is mm, so may not be long enough for the OP. I use the '3' one.

I just use wahl plug in now.  Head and beard grade one, job done.

One thing I would definitely steer clear of is the 'vacuum' ones.  They are shit.  My wife gets moody about beard trimmings all over the sink (fair enough really) so I got a vacuum one.

But they only claim to do 90%...(Lucky if it was 50%).  Anyway, point is 10% still requires cleaning the sink faff.  So you might as well clean 100%, takes same amount of time!

at what length? or are you talking about using it for close shaving? Have been tempted to try one of these, they pop up on offer quite often. The pro ones will do 9/10mm apparently (although my beard is a lot longer than that right now! 😂)

Currently have a Wahl plug in though which does a basic job right enough. Seems pretty bulletproof too.

Got to agree with the Wahl recommendations. I've had (and still have ) a number of different clippers obtained at different times of my life but the standard Wahl hair clippers always get used as they just work. Probably need something else if you want to do some poncy shaping but to just knock it all down to a one tidy length the Wahl wins every time.

The one blade... I have one. It's not great with the guard but quite good 'bare' for edging. You can get almost razor close but without the risk of cutting/irritation. So good for close to the mouth or other 'intimate' areas.

Not really worth the money though IMO.
