MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
Just realised if I put the family on the street and sold the house this might almost be doable.
Now since I've made the family homeless I'll need to keep them with me, (so no single or dual seat sports aircraft). I'd also like something with good MPG and IFR capability.
Suggestions?
Oh, and some change from the £300k would be nice, flying lessons might be needed...
😀
Nice, an amphip flying boat, go anywhere ability. The kids will like that.

Can be found much cheaper, will get in and out of very small places and carry a useful amount. It could be a rubbish idea / value but I like them.
Islander.
Like the aviation offspring of a Land Rover and a shed. Get in and out of almost any strip in the world.

That screams "cartel drug smuggler".
Have a look at a DA42.
Have been working with one in Scotland, and I am tempted ( though I would of course need to find the cash first)
Could I club together with some mates?

For that sort of money I'd buy a share in something decent and spend the rest on flying the thing. Airplanes are money pits and £300k would go in no time if you need engine work etc.
Have got to say that if I were really able to afford an aircraft the DA42 would definitely be somewhere near the top of my list. The digital engine control systems, cheap (ha!) running costs, and mostly glass cockpit make it very appealing. There is a chap who puts recordings of his flights across Europe in one on youtube;

I have no idea what they cost, but I'm guessing a Catalina is going to be out of my range yes?

Yeah, nice one Klunk, but the kids might get cold clinging to the under-cart 😀

sell 'em into slavery to buy the hanger.

$4.650M 😯

Well, the boy can be rather annoying at times...
Fieseler Fi 156 Storch. Astonishing STOL performance, but not small, it's got a 46' wingspan!
Still, the wings fold back on originals.
I have a sneaking suspicion that prices for an original, or a French built Mouraine-Saulnier version might go over budget, I can't find one for sale to get an idea.
But maybe not, if the PB5Y is anything to go by...

You do realise just how big a Cat is, don't you?
...if I can't convince the wife that a Land Rover Defender is an ideal family car then I doubt a 60 year old Skyraider would be acceptable as a family plane...
I suppose I could convert it to look like the RN AEW model - at least a few extra suitcases could be stowed in the radome bubble 🙂
klunk - the Spitfire is a few bits and a VIN; not quite good to go.
The Moth is a great plane for learning on; very forgiving.
