Its in our back garden and the insurers want to know. I have absolutely no knowledge of trees beyond they're made of wood. Any ideas?

Most insurers will want to know what tree it is because some trees have agressive roots that can undermine foundations, they will also want to know how far away from your house it is.

Cheers folks, yes they were concerned it was an Oak for the reason Highclimber has identified...they were going to void my insurance if this was the case, so i was rather worried.
