A man is coming to quote to re-point front and side of house tomorrow. He's the first - I will get another couple of quotes.

Front of house is approx 64m sq, side is approx 56m sq.

He's got a slightly battered van, uses a dustless system and it appears to be a nice wholesome husband and wife business. He's already done a drive-by and my initial questioning about a style of pointing that would bet suit the house, extracted the northern reply of "to be honest, any type of pointing will improve that house". All pertinent facts, you'll agree.

Closest guess gets a pack of haribo of choice.

Pff. A grand.

I'd be interested to know what a real quote looks like.

Does the sqm quoted exclude windows etc? Scaffolding to be hired? Raking out to be done?
Guess at £2250.

I'll go for £1500. £2000 if he has a nice van and a website.

£1450.

I'd like to donate my Tangfastics to a local baby robin who has sadly lost his face in a tragic accident. 😥

£3200

2 days to prep, +3 days per wall, = 8 days = 64 hours @£50/hour.

(re-pointing is a bugger of a time consuming job, although it's much easier and quicker if you don't do it properly, and no-one will know until it all falls off at the first sign of a frost)

i'd prefer an artisan curated pork pie.

64m^2 is a LOT of wall, where do you live? Stockport Viaduct?

Front of house is approx 64m sq, side is approx 56m sq.

64sqm is a lot of wall but I'm struggling to see the difference in the correction above. I want my notional entry fee back if the question has an error.

Actually, I really like the idea of this thread. bn, fancy doing a weekly Banzai? I think you'd be great at choosing the things to bet on?

Maybe last-week's winner will provide the prize?

Some bloke on my street has just had his done. Covered half the street with dust. So I'm going to go £2.2k + however many tokens are required for the local carwash.

OP - fyi 64m2 and 8m x 8m are the same thing. An 8m high wall is pretty big. Do you perhaps reside at Strangeways?

£1350 but £1k for cash.

Is the wrong time of year and it does need to be done properly with a good rake out to get the new pointing to key.

Ask to see the last house he did, anyone can point just most do it badly.

£2500 🙁

Apparently pointing in frost is no problem as they use plasticisers?

More googling needed.

Dave wins, drop me an email with your address 🙂

Champion, thanks Bear. No email in your profile but mine's in there so just drop me a line if you have actual bags to give away (Tangfastics please :D). If not then happy if you just pp (gift naturally) to my email to save postage and hassle.

If there's interest I'm happy to do similar next week and provide a prize.

It takes a bit of the fun out of it not actually sending a packet of haribo, but yeah, you're right, it's a faff. PPd you.

You have to spend it on a pack of Tangfastic though; them be the rules 🙂

and what are the true measurements, if your walls are 8m high I'm guessing you only have slits for windows and a portcullis in the doorway.

FFS! Right, it's 8m high at side elevation, 7m deep and 8m wide. Yes, I may have made some minor miscalculations, including the height of front of the house..OK?! Happy?!

Anyhow, the man that came round clearly had no time for such tedious matters. Not a tape measure in sight, just "two and a half grand" 🙂

Cheers. Did you suggest paying cash (purely to aid cash flow) as sure he would have gone to £2250? You can't fit many calculations on the back of a fag packet to be fair to him. Further quotes in order I hope.

Pic of haribo purchased will follow idc.
