my mates getting married this year and viewed several places for the venue and settled on a lovely old country house that said they would have alsorts of upgrades in place for the wedding - and when he viewed it it was in the throws of renovation.
he went back at the weekend to see how they were getting on with it - and it was clear that they have finished their renovations which was little more than a few coats of paint and are about to start their fully booked season it is clear from their attitude to him on the phone when questioned they have no intentions of getting in place the things they said they would (things like a bar - and en suites in the rooms , its nothing more than a hostel style building as it stands)
he paid a 500 pound deposit(on his credit card) to reserve the date based on those verbal promises(and verbally it was non refundable)and hasnt yet signed a contract
he has other options availible to him for venue but was curious if he has any comeback on his 500 quid.....i suggested phoning visa and getting a chargeback issued but not sure if they would side with him?
and FYI its 100% not me if anyone that knows me well is wondering where their invitation is 😉
Your friend should be able to claim it back through his credit card issuer. Just tell your friend to set their recovery bods on the hostel/hotel.
What Jamie said - on the basis that the venue is in breech of contract.
Yes set the CC people on them. They tend to go for the "we'll remove your ability to take payments by card approach". Merchant compliance is usually very swift!
