Any recommendations for a no-nonsense reliable photographer who is prepared to do a few hours around the ceremony and aftermath?
Want to avoid over the top all day packages and endless staged formal photos with every permutation of guests and family.
Basically we want someone who can guarantee a few nice photos to remember the day with the minimum of fuss, and don't need a huge album with hundreds of photos that we will never look at again.
All useful leads appreciated.

A colleague at work is the photographer and is supposed to be really good.
Hope that helps.

Our photographer was a guy called John McBride. Really nice guy, excellent prices, and even brought a helper along so they could have 2 cameras on the go. Can't seem to find is website, but if you need a number then let me know.
I can highly recommend Suzanne Black, Not edinburgh but Fife and am sure she will travel:

Robin Frowley did ours about 3 years ago. Couldn't fault his work and he was a nice chap to deal with. Looked cheap next to the competition. We had a handful of the formal photos we "had" to have for the family and the rest was really unobtrusive. He should definitely be on your list of people to meet with.
