This job advert will silence the continual moaning about speed/up-time/shut down etc.
Is rather funny, they are looking for someone to take it to the next level. I think the next level == reliable.
Will somebody please think of the Hamsters!!
Don't worry folks! The new forum is due in January 2009!
Now, where did I park my deLorean?
A web designer won't do anything about the stability issues, it'll just crash in a much prettier fashion.
Call in Andy Armstrong.
t'll just crash in a much prettier fashion.
Next time it could be a child's face.
I would put Linux/Apache/MySQL under "Essential" !!
It's not the *design* of STW which people moan about, it's the inability of the server admin to keep it online.
Strikes me that a 'developer' got roped into looking after the server too.... all too common, unfortunately.
Id love it except my skils are SQL server and microsoft and have no web dev exp what so ever!
oh and i live the other end of the country!
bwah hah hah - haven't filled the post yet then?
I'd do it if it wasn't all the way up there, didn't require skills I that don't have and didn't involve cleaning the coffee machine.
From the threads on here, I'd assume that any one of the posters could do the job with their eyes tied and their arms closed.
right so they must work in IT and post on here.
Sorry cant think of
But judging by the comments and the assumptions I'd not employ any of them 🙂
I wouldn't want to work anywhere that would employ the likes of me!
This forums full of ****s. You don't want ****s working for you. advertise somewhere else.
I'd do it but you can't afford me.
I'd do it but you can't afford me.
...and that's just the emotional cost.
But judging by the comments and the assumptions I'd not employ any of them
You should have asked for forum user name, as well as CV, etc 🙂
oh and i live the other end of the country!
surely that's unimportant - most of my web designing has been done on servers in other countries 🙂
Am I being head-hunted then?
This feels alot like I'm being head-hunted.
I'd do the job. Only know Lotus Notes and Lotus Script though. If thats close enough I'm all ears.
do you have any scampi flavoured fries?
"covering letter including current salary..." - ah that'd be the end of my application then!
Rachel
Used to be a Shaun chap that posted on here, he seemed pretty handy with a webserver?
mogrim: Yes or that Cressers bloke?

, i make a nice brew too, i can bring in the extra milk for you and biscuites too, perhaps even some cupcakes ..and i can wear the t-shirts outside of the office for extra advertsing, but what is most suprising is i know sod all about web designing.. 😉
i know sod all about web designing
judging by a lot of what I see that might be quite normal for the job 🙂

But judging by the comments and the assumptions I'd not employ any of them
Judging by the current skill level looking after the servers, I wouldn't want to work for them 😉
Hint: recruit a website designer/developer, but outsource your web hosting services (server admin) to someone who knows what they are doing. Seriously. Rackspace come recommended, with their 'fanatical' support. 🙂
2nd the Rackspace recommendation - brilliant hosting.
simonfbarnes - Memberi know sod all about web designing

I find it quite disturbing that I agree with SFB!
I may have to go and have a lie down...
Tbh I would love the challenge but I think salary and relocating could well be an issue 🙁
