What a moron. This is man who could definately afford a taxi to wherever he wanted to go, the papers are saying he was at a bar 5 miles from his house. What's that? maybe about 20 quid at the most. He has chosen to get behind the wheel after a drunken night of fun, apparently standing on tables and signing Oasis songs. He must have been driving erratically as well to attract the attention of the police. An example needs to be made, lol, don't you reckon.. jail time! lock him up I say...

I'd rather he paid a fine proportional to his income, served the usual ban and got to do some community service.

got to do some community service.

what would a fine proportional to his income look like?

edit: says here max fine for drink driving is 5k but up to 3yrs loss of licence.

99.8% - leave him a little left over to buy a bike to commute to training on.

It would cost him 1% of his salary to employ a couple of full time drivers on £40k a year each. They could drive him around whenever he wants.

Tool.

Why wouldn't it be news? He is one of England's most high profile footballers.

I think it's good to see that a drink driver is facing prosecution.

1 year driving ban + £2500 (maximum) fine is likely here..

Another example of über rich = above the law. For all intents and purposes at least. Like any sanction available is going to actually bother him. At least he's off the road for a year or two, I suppose.

I'm more surprised by the fact he was driving a VW Beetle...

Did it have the emissions upgrade done ?

Moar important than a drunk driver wiggling his right foot over the go peddle,

What a moron.

He hasn't been told his punishment yet. Should they have shot him on site?

The coverage I'd read suggests he was simply being a gentleman and helping a lady in her 20s get her car home.

Total T.

Taxi ? The people I know who make a fraction of what he does have a full time driver

Not just Wendy Ball players either being F-wits. Dan Carter was caught drink driving in Paris in January

And Danny Cipriani. And Andy Powell. Although the latter may not have been capable of any sort of mens rea so he might not count.
