I've got a roof leak along one side of a lead valley on a pitched slate roof.
I think the issue is the original lead valley isn't wide enough and water is getting in under the slates as there isn't much overlap to the lead. (valley boards are only 150mm each)
I wanted to test this out by putting a temporary seal along the edge of the valley under the slates to confirm if this is the problem and also to stop the water coming in until I can get someone to replace the valley.
Anything anyone can recommend? - Ideally something that can be easily removed without damaging the slates.
flashbanding?
I was thinking flashbanding too - however a good roofer would come and look at it if there's the work available for them
Where are you based? I'm sure someone would be able to recommend a good roofer for you
I would try flashband as it's easy to use. Although I did a bigger temp repair to a flat bedroom bay using viscueen sheeting until the roofer could come. If possible just slide it under the tiles without sticking down should give you a better idea what's leaking.
Would flashband peel off the slates ok when I need to remove?
Based between Reading/Oxford
You shouldn't need to stick it to the slates, or do you want to stick it to the underside (in which case does it matter if it leaves a bit residue?)
Slide it under the tiles as said if you just want to check the valley lead and just seal the top edge. Another option I used on damage felt when replacing facia boards that I forgot about is some wide damp proof corse (dpc) and seal with a bit of silicone
Yeah, planning on sticking to the underside of the slates where they overhang the valley, then onto the lead.
Doesn't need to be wide as I'm only sealing one side. Have ordered some 50mm flashband which was the narrowest I could find.
