FFS, it looks feels and fits better than I expected. I especially like the EL:

I might have to keep it and sell the 5610!
@kryton57 - you now have to post photos of the 5610 and a rough asking price
Ha.
I find this odd, that despite the batch numbers showing the 5610U is a '22 watch and the 6900 a '23 watch so both relatively modern, the 5610u still has that "fuzzy" look LCD I certainly lights and the 6900 is much more crisp. You would have through the tech is much the same, but maybe its not so for the modules.
Box and papers are part of the value of the watch for most afficionados. I’d keep the watch if they further discounted by the effect of losing them. The fact they’ve discounted it already is irrelevant as it wasn’t sold as ‘discounted due to missing box/papers’ was it?
That was exactly my point when I spoke to them and they’ve now apparently ordered all the missing items and will forward when they arrive. To be fair they didn’t kick up a fuss or try to suggest it was cheap because of…. I shall wait and see what arrives (or not) but one thing I’ve decided not to do is let it lie, I can be as stubborn as the next man when it come to petty arguments!
My Reverso has stopped.... I am hoping I am just unlucky and it's the battery. The watch registered fine on the JLC website and Reverso are pretty hard to fake generally (complicated case) but still, slightly bricking it. Plus point is it still looks nice, even when the time is wrong!
Dont you work at CERN or somesuch establishment? Maybe time is running REALLY slowly due to proximity to an artificial black hole.... 😀
Good luck with the Reverso. I would expect something simple especially if provenance checked out.
However, maybe its punishing you for not wearing it and putting it in the front basket of your bicycle.....
I'm on leave in Blighty, so I don't have a spare reactor to drop in! Normally I'm happy changing batteries but a Reverso case.... nah. It has a calibre 608, super simple and even in worse case it's not too bad. All relative though as I already emptied my bank account to get it! I was going to take it on my dad's boat this weekend, and not even in a waterproof basket 😀
<span style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);">Tonight’s watch is my Bell & Ross. Sentimental rather than actually liking aesthetics of the watch. Was a Father’s Day present a few years ago. About the dressiest watch I have….maybe that’s the direction I need to go with my next purchase.

Trying to find a reason not to buy this for £127.50

https://www.hsamuel.co.uk/seiko-classic-dress-mens-stainless-steel-bracelet-watch/p/V-3597512
I'd probably ditch the bracelet and put it on a brown leather strap
That Bell & Ross looks really uncomfortable on the wrist.
Unlike my Scurfa Diver One which I've just put on a Zuludiver HydraRib. It looks ace and is really comfy.
I think the colour is perfect for the watch face / bezel.
That Seiko is brilliant for the money. Sapphire, solar powered, day/date and 100 m water resist.
Winner there Derek!
Thanks nn
Speaking of Zuludiver, anyone ordered an Octopod strap/buckle? My interest is piqued as I like the looks of a nato on some watches but also like a deployment. Reviews seem mostly good, alternative straps look good value once buckle bought.
I have an Octopod. I like it. Well made, looks good. And you will buy multiple straps if you buy the buckle.
The new buckle is slightly smaller which is probably even better.
There are two basic straps (in a myriad of colours) - one is totally stretch-free (HydraRib) and the other very slightly stretchy (non-HydraRib). I prefer the very slightly stretchy one.
Thanks igm, think I might have a try with the non- hydrarib as I suspect I’ll like slightly stretchy as well.
Random question: what size (fatness) spring bars do Rolex use on their recent sports watches? I've put my Explorer 39mm on a canvas strap, using some cheapy spring bars for now, and they're noticeably thinner at the pin ends (ie where they go into the case) and wobble about.
It looks like the thickness of the Rolex spring bar at its middle isn't very different from others, but its ends are really fat and fill the holes in the case. So what kind/ dimensions of spring bar are they and where's good for spares?
It's a doozy!
The latest n+1.
Just arrived via Ebay Italy and made in Australia; the DUZU Ningaloo Reef.
44mm 300m BGW9 Superluminova Sapphire Miyota 9015 42hr
Not sure about the leather strap, stiff as.. will see if it wears in. Anyone come across a stretchy zulu in 24mm?

That's a bold look
Thanks, I may need to tone it down with a royal blue silicone - to match the second hand!
Doesn't wear that big, only 1mm more than the Citizen here and way smaller than my big G-shock (orange) or Suunto Core

That does look good, but the price of oem straps is ridiculous. I put a £20ish snide deployant and £15ish sailcloth on my seamaster as I couldn't stomach the oem costs.
@Kato - go on then, how much for an OEM strap like that?
£500?
It is thoroughly gorgeous BTW and the watch deserves to be attached to it.
I paid £350 as unused 2nd hand in packaging. Yeah £500 retail. I got my Seamaster rubber deployant for cost when I bought the watch. That was £210
It does look good, it'll be well made and the leather will be good. If you look after it then it will last well. That means don't neglect the leather. It needs moisturising or conditioner to keep it supple and strong, it needs to be allowed to dry out after getting wet or sweaty and it occasionally needs a good clean or cleanse to get the grime out the pores of the leather to allow it to dry out after it gets wet, and allow fresh conditioner in.
I am a sweaty oik and hard on leather straps.... I'd cry if I killed an oem strap s quickly as I'm able to.
@Blazin_Saddles
I bought a PVD Octopod and a couple of straps to go on my Scurfa Diver One PVD. I think I got one of the early ones that need a firm push but I really liked it. That's in past tense as it's off the watch right now as the deployant is pretty bulky for a desk diver, it wasn't too comfortable typing for long periods with it. I also wanted a different strap for a change and it's a bit of a faff to put back on.
Basically it's better as a fit and forget strap, if you regularly change straps it might annoy you.
Another option for a comfortable elastic NATO is a Froskemann strap. I've got one and really like it. It's basically a sorted Marine Nationale strap and buckle.
https://froskemann.com/
Cork strap anyone? Very light and comfortable as a material. Nice marble effect on this one acquired from the bay at 15 quid for standard buckle and strap tho' much more can be paid if desired

That Seiko is brilliant for the money. Sapphire, solar powered, day/date and 100 m water resist.
It is but I've decided against it for now, at least in black. Watched all of the videos I could find. The flat crystal just seems too reflective for my liking, and really obscures the dial. I am being incredibly picky given the price. There are green and blue versions which I might consider instead.
@beanum - good info thanks. I do tend to change my straps around a lot so I’ll take a look at your suggestion as well.
The Mrs delivered from her trip to NY. Better than a massive Toblerone!
Popped the leather NATO off my Khaki Field on and think it really suits it.

Thats really nice. I want one! 😂
I've been a bit of a lurker on this thread so figured it was time I contributed something.
All of these have some sentimental value so will be staying with me forever. From left to right
- Tag Monaco - Inherited when my Dad passed away last year
- Tag Carerra - Bought for me by my lovely wife as an engagement watch
- Omega Seamaster Quartz - My grandad got this as a long service watch from the factory he worked at, I inherited it when he passed away (my Dad used some of his inheritance to buy the Monaco)
- A Tissot from the late 90s - my 18th birthday watch from my parents
- A random wooden watch bought as an anniversary gift and laser engraved on the side.
Aside from these I also have a G-Shock. DW5600 solar which had stood up to years of abuse, a Garmin which is now what I wear most days and somewhere an Animal watch from the early to mid 90s. Unfortunately most of them need batteries with the exception of the automatics.
That's a nice collection. Stop lurking!
<p style="text-align: left;">It's a slippery slope! Even with the lurking I've found myself googling various watches that get mentioned, looking for a dive watch or a Chrono. Which is silly as I barely wear the watches I've got!</p>
Saw this the other day, and was piqued. I like a 70s feel...

https://www.midowatches.com/uk/multifort-tv-big-date-m0495261109100.html
@swdan, nice collection and great to have grandfather's and father's watches to remember them by.
@swdan very nice collection, some lovely pieces there with great family connections. Always fancied a Monaco myself.
Reminds me I must have a chat sometime with my old man about his watch collection.
Edit: I do like that mido, different.
@walowiz interestingly I always wanted a Monaco too but tried one on when shopping for my engagement watch and decided it didn't suit my small wrists and felt a bit awkward. I ended up going for the fairly straight forward Carrera. However, since this one has been in my possession I've actually worn it a fair bit and got used to how it feels. I still prefer my Carrera but I don't dislike it as much as I did initially. I think the shape, being different to most watches, can take some getting used to
Obviously, the Mido has a Patek Nautilus feel, but for me it has more of a 70s vibe (and doesn't cost as much as a small house).
The one with the orange rubber strap is nice
I like those Mido’s: not enough to buy one I don’t think, but I like the style. I also found myself liking an Hermes H08 as well, but at a considerably different price point!
Hermes H08 gets my vote too.
I think I'd like a green dial and a green strap, but they don't do that combo.
Poole Harbour, returning from Wareham, last week. Watch is still stopped but hey, time keeping is secondary, right?!

“Even a broken clock is right twice a day”
<p style="text-align: left;">That mido is rather smart looking. Very Gerald Genta, very Aquanaut, or Piaget Polo S. It's a very on trend look.</p>
I just tried the new Tag Carrera Glassbox on. Gulp, what a lovely looking thing.
Having owned one I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another, the quality is far above the cost especially vs others. A £1000 CW will be a long stretch away from a £1000 Seiko for instance.
Meh, I’ll take a Seiko over any CW any time, if for no other reason than they have a much longer history, and have been highly respected and innovative over the years. While there are certain Seiko style features I’m not so keen on, like arrowhead hands, I can’t say there’s anything much about CW that would make me want to buy one.
I can’t say there’s anything much about CW that would make me want to buy one.
it’s often an emotional thing E.g. “you like what you like”, but most know that Seiko QC above £500 and below £2k is a bit suspect currently. If you’re buying on a spec sheet only, it wouldn’t be Seiko that wins that argument. Jnr tried on the Padi mechanical diver the other day on offer at H Samuel for £46o, that looked very nice on the black rubber with the blue accents on the bezel.
I put my Arnie on this morning for the first time in a while though, with a sense of an old friend coming back into the room. That and the Samurai aren’t going anywhere, but I want to offload the orange 5 GMT albeit there’s a gazillion of second hand ones for sale so it won’t go for much.
That and difficulties with the 6Rxx movements in many of the seiko in that price range affect the views of many watch enthusiasts. Sellita and eta tend to be much much much more consistent.
Can we talk colourful watches? I’m bored with saving, and the more my fund grows the more uncomfortable I grow with the idea of dropping three zeros on a watch more that once in my life. So I’ve been looking at various colours, the blue CW Atoll appeals to me but I can’t justify that much cost tbh, but I’m coming more focussed onto one of these two:

The Luminox adds tritium to my collection, the Seiko is well just another Seiko but with a little bit of a fun element. So what are your thoughts on these, and what other fun type watches £500 or less should be on radar?
Got myself a nice little one make, sensible price collection for a smaller wrist. Last one was the mini turtle, was thinking on one of the new 38mm Citizen Promasters but decided to stick with Seiko.

Love those Ginza Alpinists. Wouldn’t pay what they’re going for now though so will just have to continue admiring
@pisco how do you find it? £500 for a fairly low grade Ronda movement kind puts me off, but the maybe overthinking. It looks fun / like it'd fit in on a beach quite nicely.
@kryton - not a fan of that Seiko, which is unusual for me. I do like colourful watches as well, but haven’t got the ambition to go above blue! My daughters have nice orange Breitlings. Out of your two I prefer the Tag, but don’t know if it’s too much for me to get away with
Edit: it’s a luminox! Doh! Still my preference out of the two.
Heres a couple of my Seiko’s showing my colour preferences:-

@tthew that Speedtimer looks very good on that strap.
May have to browse eBay and see if there’s any deals to be had.
Having been following this thread for a while, I kept telling myself "I do NOT need a Dive watch". But birthday next week, sucker for blue (although liked Kryton's Luminux a lot!).
I have a couple of Torgeon watches including a Chrono but mostly still wear my Fenix 7 most of the time. Also have a drawful of older watches including a TAG I bought nearly 30 years ago and some Timex thing with a compass! I'll have to get a pic of my motley collection sometime.
Anyway criteria were 'blue', 'great lume', 'tough', 'light', 'not massive', 'no battery changes', £200 budget. Ended up with:

Which I appreciate has nothing out of the ordinary going on, but it fit my criteria, I liked the look of it both sober and after a couple of beers and it just came into budget. Hopefully get more wrist time, than drawer time 😉
Sorry @Kryton57 how did I find what? I haven't actually owned a Doxa Sub, although I have handled a friend's one, and the build quality/bezel action were very impressive.
My Luminox is very different to that one - it's a stealthy quartz 3950, but from a batch only given to the "Lynx" S.W.A.T. team of the Swiss police force.
A member of said team gave it to my mum's husband, who he dived with a lot.

FWIW I way prefer that yellow one, as I'm not a fan of lumpy bezels, but the Lynx has sentimental value.
how did I find what?
Probably a silly question but is it quality, reliable etc. lovely back story btw, what a fantastic reason to own one.
More love for a yellow watch than I expected tbh!
Some nice Seikos. @woodster very nice, have the same Samuarai but on an integrated Clockwork black rubber strap.
Sorry, I thought you meant a Doxa that I've never owned 😄
The Luminox is great. It has been on many scuba dives (max 35m) and has always kept good time.
When changing battery today, I was thinking that it seems "overbuilt" eg thick backplate. Bezel rotation and crown action (quartz, no surprise there) aren't particularly satisfying, but do the job.
Mine is made of a carbon composite which is very lightweight and hard, almost like ceramic.
The tritium is nice to see in the middle of the night long after luminova has faded. I have another much older tritium diver where it's pretty dim though.
I think I'm selling the bezel short in hindsight; it's solid with virtually no return. It just doesn't have that sharp metallic click, but then it's not made of metal 😆
I like the yellow Luminox, have a thing for yellow watches at the moment. Keep looking at that Tissot Sideral but it’s a lot of money for a “fun” watch
Nice Seamaster Kato.
I had a 1999 Seamaster, standard colour. Lovely watch, paid £995 back in the day. Was living offshore so only paid local taxes. Great watch. Prices are still very strong.
Stupidly game mine away to my former brother in law. I do have another Omega; a planet ocean not a Seamaster.
Not sure why but few yellow watches appeal to me. Breitling can do yellow OK but...hmm.
If you want some summer pop, how about an orange monster (or heimdallr)?
To be fair to gaidong, he (assuming male due to abundance of arm hair) was on a speeding boat at the time.
I had a yellow Tag F1 that was a beaut. Yellow face/strap and red bezel.
I've got a full lume Promaster now which kind of counts as yellow.
I like the Luminox too. I've been looking at them on ebay.
how about an orange monster (or heimdallr)?
I went to Rome earlier in the year with the orange 5 gmt on black rubber. I enjoyed the look, but was adjusting the friction bezel 5 times a day - my ocd doesn’t cope. An orange monster appeals actually, although my local jeweller has the Antarctic Monster on sale and will trade in my GMT.
Hmmm, I might get the rubber back on the GMT for a couple of days and see how it goes, although tbh the oem bracelet and spring bars on that one are a real pain in the arse to get back on.
Here we go, spot the deliberate issue…. Keep or Bin?

Edit: Also enjoying Kato's Seamaster / Renault combo!
Yeah that Bezel would annoy me.
My Seiko Prospex Save the Ocean (above) the bezel is misaligned by half a click, it doesn’t line up exactly with the 12 marker. Annoys the heck out of me!
Here we go, spot the deliberate issue
Is it that your photos are in shittier focus than ever?
Ooooh johnners got out of bed on the wrong side
I upload them in “small” mode. Obvs it strips a lot of detail / res
I have a rare Waltham automatic 25 Jewel Gold plated at least time piece which I would relish finding more about from fellow forum members.
Is it possible to upload a pic direct to this thread?
Dartdude - if the photo is on your phone, simply click the image icon (square with picture of a hill/mountain). This is just above the text box where you type a reply. When you click on it then just select source and photo library.
That’s what I do with pics on my iPhone.
I think only full members can do that, not free ones.
Bummer! I even made a tinypic account though sod's law the tinypic site says no!
Stating internal error.
I'm on android mind and relatively new to it too.
Thanks for your step guide approach Woodster

Not a fan of that seiko at all, even if everything lined up correctly. The luminox gets my vote.
