Oh and that Longines up there ^^^^ - that is a lovely thing.
@SSS, a Reverso will happen for me some time but no hurry - even waiting for the centenary isn't out of the question. As regards day-month apertures, I prefer the proportions on the old calendar moonphase

Love the way This thread covers all budgets, makes, the rare, sentimental, digital, automatic, etc. we’ve got in just a few pages, budget casios, to omega, longines, to a 16k watch. Nuts.
That Longines on the previous page is rather luverly btw.
I do love a g shock, had one for ages whilst renovating our last few houses lost it a good few years back - they’re virtually indestructible, always fancied a yellow g shock. Must resist.
I also must try harder to not look at this thread anymore.
Has anyone apart from DrP tried the Garmin Fenix 7 at all?
Is it any good?
The longines 5 stars reminds me too much of MC D's uniform star rating. Any watch with the words "Professional" also send a cold shiver down my spine.
Loved my Fenix 5 but it was massive at 47mm a 56mm lug to lug. Have swapped it out for an Edge 530 on the bike and a Venu 2 Plus
However they are very good. If I was to get another I would go for the S version though
The longines 5 stars reminds me too much of MC D’s uniform star rating.
I liked it until you pointed that out, and now it can’t be unseen…
I'm not sure if this works to the UK but this shop, which I've used quite a few times, is about 20% under RRP for the Sinn U1 SDR; and Sinn don't usually discount. Not sure about other models but worth a look... https://ocarat.com/diving-watch-u1-sdr-full-tegiment-sinn-16965.html
Yeah, I just checked. Quite a few models are underpriced but that U1 SDR seems to have the biggest margin. Absolutely don't need.... but still tempted...

I wasn’t keen on the 5 stars, did wonder why they were there tbh on what is quite a nice watch.
Hey ho, back to lusting after the Blancpain FIfty fathoms in blue titanium and saving up for the next 20 years to pay for it.
Don’t suppose anyone here has a yellow g shock ?

Agree 100%. Even if those 5 stars actually relate to something, they still manages to make the watch look tacky. Plus, that crown looks very vulnerable.
that crown looks very vulnerable
I understand that the crown is best not to get knocked, but when on the wrist, I struggle to see how crowns at 3 o'clock position are that vulnerable. How would a sub or doxa style guard offer that much more protection while on the wrist?
Plus, that crown looks very vulnerable.
Vulnerable to getting knocked on the photocopier? 😉
Well that was an interesting visit to the dealers...
Went to Manchester. Took the huge, original condition box and certificates with me. My wife put them in her bag and carried for ages around Trafford Centre. Waited 30mins for appointment with specialist. Opened box to display watch......no watch. It was still in my bedisde drawer 🙁
I looked an absolute numpty.
SPoke to a nice guy who looked at the paperwork and said from the condition and complete set he would definately be able to do something with my watch if it is all ok. BUT he did hint it would be worth probably 30% of its retail value as a trade in. Even if they mark it up at £3k, that only a £1k trade in. No deal is getting done at those kind of figures as the new watch would be £6k.
How good are those two sites listed to sell a watch Chrono24 etc? Safe?
Chrono24 and chronext are safe, or safe as can be, they act as escrow. eBay and it's watch authentication service makes them pretty safe now tbh.
Anyone had any experience with Black Series Seikos? How easily do they scratch etc? Got my eye on a King Samurai for my 30th but tempted to ask for cash and get a seamaster in the new year…
Other option is a Hamilton field watch AND a seamaster in the new year.

Pretty much! It's basically got an "undercut" thing going on which just looks fragile. Given that the entire point of "tool watches" is to cos-play as something rugged and durable that just doesn't seem in keeping.
The longines looks great, good colour and sail cloth strap. beyond that its just picking up the current in 'vintage vibe' re a large crown and no guards. I suspect guards are a solution to a non problem. It definitely looks less vulnerable than the black bay with its visible crown tube coloured to match the bezel and highlight it!
Seiko prospex always decent. I've never heard of problems with the dlc coatings they use, just the usual QC troubles on pretty much all the sub £1k ish Seikos.... Some could do with more regulation and bezel/chapter ring alignment isn't spot on on a regular basis.
Thanks. To be honest, I’m more worried I’m not going to be rugged enough for the watch 😀
@geolog I have one of the limited edition black run prospex seikos, only worn a handful of times, hasn’t scratched yet - looks new TBH and I’m not that precious about my watches. They do look damn good though, think I posted a pic a good few pages back now on this thread.
Oooh, that's a nice looking Seiko!
There's a review of those Seiko's from Long Island Watch:
They look good in the flesh for sure. 10% off here.
Strange tie in with Bartlett? I like the guy and have listened to a fair few of his podcasts but presuming they were going to launch this anyway and just wanted to attach a name to it - maybe its a Gen-Z thing and want it to appeal to that age range, maybe something ive lost context on, i am 42..
So, the full metal 2100 has been released.
But would you pay £499 for it?
Very tempted by the gunmetal coloured one.
Strange tie in with Bartlett?
Indeed, before I clicked on the link I thought it was going to be a Barlett Ltd edition. But no, although I know there's a Bamford 56XX coming soon.
Very tempted
I am too oddly, albeit by the silver one despite it being the same watch as the plastic £129 version.
There’s a review of those Seiko’s from Long Island Watch
I should know better and should not have watched that. Really like the samurai.
That g shock in the gunmetal looks great, but it might be me but with all the angles going on the face, I’m struggling to see the time clearly.
Those 96zero watches look good too.
Really like the samurai.
+1, if I didn't have a Samurai already I'd buy that.
Amazon finally have the 5610u back in stock, so mine arrives Sunday.... 😀
I'm actually not sure I'll keep it. Its kind of a horologically poignant piece, but I'm already wondering where I'll wear it and the answer is when I'm working on the bikes/diy, and when I don't fancy wearing a nicer watch.
Which then kind of makes the GSteel redundant, so one of them will have to go.

Have these cropped up on here before, quite like the Field watch
Jesus, even by field watch standards the legibility on that is god-awful.
And speaking of poor legibility

You could chuck a decimal point anywhere into that price and it'd still be a strong no from me.
On the other hand, the new Mido titanium diver is a nice looking thing.

Has anyone apart from DrP tried the Garmin Fenix 7 at all?

I bought one having lost my Fenix 6 Pro kiteboarding a few weeks ago. Hopefully my house insurance will pay something towards the new one....
Anyhoo, the 7 is nice. I got the 47mm Ti Solar one, so v pricey, even with MoD discount.
It's not so nice I'd upgrade from the 6 though, if I still had it....There are a couple of features that drove me to the 7 over the 6, worldwide maps and Kitesurfing apps, but if these aren't necessary, then save your £££ and get the 6.
IMHO.

Eh?
It's a true "beater" not to be treated with some strange sort of reverence like people do with their easily scuffed desk divers.
Casio may have styled it like the original square G but it's not really "horologically poignant" it's just the same as the last 5610 but with an updated module. It's just a slightly better version of a very common watch intended for hard use...
Just Wear the damn thing!
My 5610 is my most worn watch and after five years you can replace the bezel and strap from Tiktox and it will look like new again. They feel much better with a 5000 series strap from Tiktox it is thinner and much softer. The 5000 strap is also in between the adjustment sizes of the original strap and because it is softer it is easier to get a good fit
I think my point is I don’t really need another watch, although I don’t have a full digital.
I refer to my other thread I create today 🙁
although I don’t have a full digital.
Well now you do have a digital watch, a good'un and you probably won't need another. It does a lot and only weights about 60g, all the others watches you buy can be for 'occasions'. So It serves to save those "s" from wear and tear too.
I refer to my other thread I create today 🙁
Which resonated with me, but honestly a 5610 can easily justify its presence in amongst all the other watches you might own.
I have several other somewhat redundant digital watches, my 5610 is my default beater/travel/doing stuff watch, it didn't break the bank to buy (also from Amazon), it does way more than a dive watch (functionally) it will last a couple of decades (solar), as noted you'll knacker the strap long before anything else. You have made a pretty wise purchase (IMO).
It sort of embodies what the G shock brand is to me, functional, affordable (but not cheap) robust digital watches for people who don't want to deal with a broken timepiece every other day.
TBH that metal GM-B2100 is kind of the antithesis; an overpriced, shiny wrist bauble trading on some notion of G Shock "Heritage", a vague resemblance to an AP Royal Oak plus verbose, bullshit laced endorsements from whichever self aggrandising, aspirational capitalist grifter is doing the rounds currently. I'll admit I just don't get metal G shocks.
GW-M5610(u): A relatively sensible purchasing decision.
GM-B2100: Casio's current grift to separate millennials from £500 most probably don't have spare.
But we all have different ideas and opinions I suppose 😉
I think my point is I really don't need another watch. Hmmm I think we should all be remembering that a lot! If you can afford it though it's about want and if it would give your pleasure.
My 2006 born son will wear a Seiko 5 or a Garmin. I can’t see the GM-B2100 separating any cash from him.

I arrived home to find it thrown over our 7ft side gate by Amazon delivery, so that was an appropriate start. Once on, it kind of has that cute puppy dog/you know you have the only digital watch you'll ever need thing about it. And, I just did some DIY ( a stretch, I changed the batteries in a PIR but that did mean getting screwdriver from the shed) in it. Yep, it'll sit on my desk instead of the watch box being shuffled around between times I don't want to wear one of the decent ones.
So I just bought a Venu 2 Plus to replace a broken Fenix. Thought it would make a decent work watch as well, but now I need a 5610
Kato you could have one by Tuesday but be quick there's only 4 left at this price.
I like the "U" - UK date format and several other upgrades to the module including an LED backlight. Its so much more acceptable / impressive in the flesh.
luckily I missed that one so my £100 lives to fight another day hahaha

That'll be the youngest one from Dragons Den - www.watchpro.com/why-the-fieriest-dragons-den-mogul-chooses-g-shock-casioak/
Baaaaa! Another watch I would love up on tz sales corner...a zenith chronomaster sport. Still a bit beyond what I've got in the watch fund... Quite a large amount beyond.... Even if I had shifted the Zelos and the Seiko it would still be a lung way beyond what I have in the watch fund.... But bloody hell, I want it.
I tried on the Ball Engineer Hydrocarbon Original yesterday. I liked it, very solid build, but next to my Pelagos it was outclassed. Money saved, hooray!
I am too oddly, albeit by the silver one despite it being the same watch as the plastic £129 version.
It's not though - Bluetooth and solar added
New watch day!
"Only" the 4th time of trying instore and I got lucky. Well, I say I but Mrs a11y surprised me by popping into the store on Monday while in town taking the kids to a Fringe show while I was working at home. Right place, right time I think. It was even my first choice of the collection.
I'm not a fan of the strap so have got a plain black NATO strap on the way. I might be a bit more adventurous and add something colour-complementing in future.
Nice, I still fancy one. They're starting to expand the number of the shops they are available in now. London, Edinburgh and Glasgow in the UK now. Which isn't a great geographical distribution, selfishly Liverpool or Manchester would have been much more preferable.
edit - although the Pagani "homage" (aka total rip off) seems much better value!
@Fudd, no, those prices are not ex-VAT. I've already ordered two Sinns (and plenty of other stuff) from that shop. There may be tax/duty differences importing to the UK but the euro price is 'ttc' (all taxes included).
a11y : New watch day!
Be carefull of the plastic buttons, a mate bought one (mars version) and the top most button broke and fell off as he reached inside his jeans pocket, he must’ve caught it but still pretty poor. Swatch said it was not a manufacturing issue so not a warranty issue.
Is your mate Adrian aka bark and Jack? He did the same mid your l YouTube video!
Overpriced, overhyped tat me thinks.
Is your mate Adrian aka bark and Jack?
I don’t follow?, his entire button & poky bit into the watch is broken. Apart from that the actual watch looked ok when it was new, I was surprised at how light it felt and would probably buy one if they were £50.

that's a shame - I did kinda fancy one but I was mindful that loads of Swatches I'd had in my late teens/early 20's were fragile and disposable, sounds like nothing has changed.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sfJd5UE0NMQ
Ahh I understand, I see in the video at around 4min he still has the silver pokey bit attached, my mates entire assembly detached/broke off internally.
I wonder if the NATO strap raising the profile of the watch away from the wrist might've been a contributing factor in making the buttons more susceptible to catching on things?

This is how it looks from the UK -

@Fudd, talking specifically of the U1 SDR tegiment on bracelet I referred to originally, it's €2610 plus delivery from Sinn and €2120 free delivery from Ocarat to France. Setting it to UK delivery the price changes to € 1783.39 including delivery, so ex VAT and heavily underpriced vs a Sinn factory buy. What is the problem with my statement?
No problem dear, I just didn't realise you were specifically talking about the U1 and when I checked they were all plus vat bringing them in line with rrp.
I'm awfully sorry, dear, it wasn't clear i was referring to that specific watch with my initial post with a direct link...

I shouldn’t have looked (again), do like the black one on the black strap, could be a good candidate for an unusual beater.
Prefer the one with the simpler dial
Has the history...laco did supply the Luftwaffe back in the day.
Always the same outcome, psa for a budget watch, quick look round and I’m now looking at one a little bit more expensive, but which I oddly really like, even though it’s been deliberately aged / beaten up on purpose! A process that usually ends up with the watch looking a bit rubbish.

Errm. Over 10x the price isn't 'a little more expensive'
Errm. Over 10x the price isn’t ‘a little more expensive’
Fair point, am still trying to confirm that the model you shared is the 42mm version. If it is, that’s what I’m getting.
I’d love the more authentic version, not the erbsteuck variant I posted above, but that’s about 700 more. So no.
@walowiz, via live chat an agent just confirmed with me:
"Product 2364123 has a transparent back and is 42mm in diameter."
Similar but with a different face:
"Product 2364072 doesn't have a transparent back but has the same diameter of 42mm"
@huckersneck thanks, Bought model no 2364181. Went for the “b” dial, for the more authentic-ish flieger look
First brand new watch for a very long time.
News from those that have received is that the flieger is indeed the 42mm version. Most annoying that the website missed that pretty important bit of info!
The Laco arrived today. After two days of the order “being processed”, it magically arrived smartish by courier today.
For 170 quid, it’s a total bargain and it is bloody lovely, really good quality even if it is the basic range, even at full retail it would be lovely, will post some pics up later. Never looked at a fleiger pilot style watch before, but this is quite cool. Appreciating it’s a new shiny thing and all that, but I think I prefer this to my diver watches.
Edit confirmed it is the 42mm version I’ve received.
Ok pics, hopefully.

Dusty crystal?
It's the protective film isn't it?
Um yes, some idiot forgot in his excitement to take off the protective film before taking pics.
That’s a relief.
In the meantime, the new Breitling Seawolf looks like a beast of a watch: https://www.jurawatches.co.uk/products/breitling-watch-avenger-automatic-45-seawolf-uk-limited-edition-bracelet-a173192a1b1a1?mc_cid=e4b450377d&mc_eid=26e5750a3c
I can’t put my finger on it though, it doesn’t look like the price it is to me.
Nope, I just don't like Breitling - even when they're less busy they just don't seem right.
On the other hand (if you'll pardon the expression) I do really like the new Tag Heuer GMT.
*Which I'd link to or share an image but apparently that's not working today.
the new Breitling Seawolf looks like a beast of a watch
It'd look better in a 40. Or given that it'd probably have to stay the same thickness maybe it'd just look plain odd. That 3000m would come in handy if there were a spillage incident at the water cooler though.
Me neither, except the navitimer. That's a busy watch but a classic and I love it, but the rest are too big and brash and far from subtle.... They lack design finesse. Oddly though I'm attracted to the current super Ocean range with the funky fun colours, I like the wide white chapter ring and how it breaks up the dial and bezel colour.... Basic movement and overpriced though so, no. I digress. But no, breitling, no.
The laco looks great! I prefer a dials not b, but yes that's a bargain. Glad the PSA worked out!
As above, I got the Tag email also, the Carrera looks great in a old Carrera homage kinda way without the Link bracelet.
Link here: (excuse the pun) https://www.watchobsession.co.uk/products/tag-heuer-car201z-ba0714-carrera-calibre-heuer-01-43mm-automatic-chronograph-black-dial
I shall be travelling through an airport in 2 days, I’m tempted to have a proper look.
Jaysus that sea wolf looks huge. Not my thing at all, but I’m probably not the target market. I’ve never really been a Breitling fan, but I really don’t like that.
After my rushed approach yesterday, here is a shot of the Laco without all the protective film. It’s all great quality, the leather strap is really bloody thick and is going to take some bedding in.

That looks bloody lovely.
