There are apparently questions as to how in house the manufacture (and quality) of their movements is but I don’t have verifiable information either way.

Tz-uk sales corner is in full on summer slump mode. Is absolutely correct. Really fascinating to watch. Good luck with Zelos and Seiko.
(Eddie's Commander is my next purchase and currently wearing a cream Navigator)

Thanks Wally. CountZ has financial commitments and exercised impressive self control when I offered him the Abyss! And I forget who loves green but they've not been tempted by the sbdc059. Both came from tz and will stay there... If the slump comes to and end! Still Mondies sbga031 isn't selling either. In fact neither are the Daytonas, various grand seiko including the latest release, wouldn't be surprised if the 2 day old ranger didn't shift, the Hulk.. the blancpain FF ... The high beat grand seiko diver. ... There are a lot of quality watches that aren't shifting! Oh and my two

I've had it from new, imported quite some years ago. I've just goolged seiko om and I can't tell what year / version mine is now. I do have the box and spare links too, so there's that!

Given the sames slump, I assume it's only worth tuppence ha'ppeny ?

Tz-uk sales corner is in full on summer slump mode. This means I’ve had no luck yet selling, and it means more same more incredible watches piling up…. It’s torture and incredible at the same time.

I dunno, the Sinn 556A that appeared a couple of weeks ago was gone in a couple of hours.

As soon as I saw it I was like a fat kid on cake 🙂

I was, it's a lovely dial but I've concluded I've enough 42mm-ish divers.

I’ve just goolged seiko om and I can’t tell what year / version mine is now

This site will help, you just need the serial number and movement type off the case.

Nah less, bit give me a tenner I'll take it. 🤣

They aren't expensive but are admired and collected and rising in value if a decent example. I can't remember what they command tbh, I stopped investigating when I realized a Heimdallr monster looked as good, had a better movement and finish and was cheaper... But I think you'll looking at £200-250 ish.

Personally, is say an orange monster is a perfect summer beach watch so sell now, but neither the cheap stuff nor the exotica is selling on tz, so maybe just stick it on eBay if it doesn't sell sheet a few days.
As for age .. trapezoidal hour markers is mk 1, triangular ones MK2, and that's about all I know!

Pretty much.
Mk 1 - trapezoidal indices, day/date, 7s26
Mk 2 - triangular indices, day/date, 4r36
Mk 3 - trapezoidal indices, day with cyclops, 6r15, prospex branding, big price hike.
Absolutely loads of mainly JDM LE models.

Called into Beaverbrooks Milton Keynes on the way home from work to see the Black Bay Pro and Ranger. The Ranger is still disappointing  in the flesh, the Black Bay Pro rather the opposite, it's lovely, the colours work in real life  and the bracelet is really nice.

Deposit paid this morning, I'll pick it up next week. It's my first expensive watch, I'm buying it with money that my mum left me so it will be a link to her.

Cheers! It's Sinn's entry level watch so a top grade ETA 2824 inside and 38.5mm case. You can get them with different dials and strap options, but the 'A' dial and H-link bracelet is the classic combo for me.

I've wanted one for ages but it never happened for whatever reason, then a month or so back I decided to buy a new one but the site was showing 30 week delivery times, so when this mint 2018 watch showed up on TZUK it was perfect timing.

They're a brand that few outside of watch collectors are aware of with a no BS approach to watchmaking, so if it has an ETA movement they'll say so and none of this crap about modified movements or in-house where none exists, which I find refreshing in this day and age.

This is my first Sinn but I don't think it'll be the last...

Sinn watches are ace.
Proper under the radar brand, usually only known by proper watch nerds with some very cool technologies going on and also a case manufacturer under the SUG brand for people like A. Lange & Söhne and amongst others.
Current 556 and many other Sinn watches have the Sellita SW200-1 top grade movement which is adjusted to chronometer spec, but as Sinn state, it's pointless getting the certification as its meaningless and bumps the price up.
I've had my Sinn 556i RS for just over a year and a half now.
It currently runs at plus 1 second a day.
It's also the only watch I own that ever get comments from random strangers recognising it and giving it the nod, much to my wife's amusement.

thanks fudd! I'm a fan of eta 2824, and the sw200 (basically the same). durable, easily serviced and very very accurate, I don't go for in house unless its got extra quality to it.

@Murray that is a fantastic reason to buy a quality watch.

So, this is the IWC Pilot 41 chrono which I'm saving up for at £5,250:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/kryton1957/52235777275/in/dateposted-public/

But this is Steinhart's homage at €1050:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/kryton1957/52234309067/in/dateposted-public/

Both use an ETA 7750 Vajoux Elabore, note the texture on the Steinhart.

WWSTW do?!

I prefer the Steinhart but tbh I'd never pay £5250 for a watch so I think that colours my opinion a bit and makes it a bit less useful.
I don't like IWC mixing the day/date complication in with the branding, a daft thing to do IMO. I also don't get why it's got that wee red hand, it's not picking up on a red accent from anywhere else so looks a bit marooned. There's quite enough going on with that dial without day/date, though I'm pleasantly surprised at Steinhart's restraint in imitting it if they're really both the same movement.

So my Omega rubber arrived and it’s completely changed the watch. The Seamaster bracelet was always a chunky monkey without any taper and this is so much more comfortable. Looks great. No where near worth the money they ask though, which was £280 with a pin buckle or £450 with the deployant clasp

@Kryton57 I've got the Steinhart Nav-B Chrono in black and I like it. Feels nice on, keeps good time if worn regularly and looks good.
Think I paid about £799 though which seems reasonable. If I was being critical, the chrono pushers feel a bit clunky but I'm comparing that to my Speedmaster so probably a bit unfair.
You're welcome to have a look at mine if you want a hands-on check before buying.

IWC.

It’s one of those ones where you may have a regret purchase thinking what you could have had?
Also IWC more likely to appreciate in value?

Congrats Murray.

Kryton I'm sure the steinhart will be a great watch and excellent value, it will get good. Iwc ... Go to an ad and try it on. If it has the quality it'll feel like it's worth the money, of it doesn't you'll know you'll be disappointed with it.

Kato I agree, bracelet is quality but mine came off immediately and the watch went on a strap. B Hebert it couldn't bring myself to pay OEM prices for a rubber strap and a deployant, so I've been very very pleased with a hooky deployant from Etsy and a black sailcloth with white stitching

I can't think of a single watch with a 7750 I'd pay over 5k for.

My limit would be with the Pands Speedmaster or IWC 3706 and both are attainable for under 3k, so a nice 3706 with the bracelet is the correct answer

I've vaguely been keeping an eye out for a reasonably chunky GMT and have just seen the new Formex Reef. Not really seen much from Formex before but this looks great and very adjustable with qr straps and interchangeable (by hand) bezels.

I'm flipping between the white dial and white lumed bezel or the black and rose gold options at the minute...

You can also waste 30 minutes configuring a watch you're probably not going to buy...

Make sure the hour hand is the jumping hand....nothing more frustrating than having the GMT hand (which should read GMT...) the jumper!...

..well there is actually...I watched my Fenix 6 fall off my wrist in slo-mo whilst kitesurfing yesterday. I wasn't in a position to stop it either...Quite some way out to sea. Probably still working at the bottom 🙁

Moral of the story: don't rely on cheap Amazon straps....

Lol, No. I did consider it but I need to flip the Tissot Supersport TdF first anyway. I also remembered - when looking at the Ebay pics - how deep the 7750 makes a watch. I decided this morning to wear my 2006 aquaracer chrono which has the same 7750 in to re-live the experience of a top heavy and proud wearing watch.

I'll keep saving with a new bathroom being the real priority.... 🙂

The Sinn U50 has arrived! SDR (black bezel) Tegiment. No messing about - got an email yesterday saying they were giving to UPS in Germany, turned up today at lunchtime. Even the bracelet comes with spring bar tool, allen keys (for the hex bolts), threadlock (ditto) etc. Loving it.

It's really surprisingly small - the thinness really is what stands out, especially given the 500m WR rating. But it's got some heft when you hold it, more like my 42mm/ 15mm Oris ProPilot

Sinn U50
again

I don’t really get the fuss about Casioaks therefore can’t bring myself to buy one as well as the GSteel I have. I’m after the £80 5610 that’s been out of stock on Amazon for a while as a cheap digital. I did note that Creation have a 5600 and a “special forces” 6900 in that sale.

Kinda cursing that I bought an Instinct Solar 2 in Blue as it’s a bit socially unacceptable IMO otherwise it would have plugged the gap.

I thought they were all Selitta in the autos and ETA in the quartz, but I've been nerding out on Sinn the last few weeks and discovered they're also using Concepto 7750 clones and La Joux-Perret in the Diapal chrono, which is basically a heavily modified 7750.

Thanks for the love! I cut the rubber strap to length and swapped it back on and at the moment am loving that. I'll probably also look at a NATO and/ or a sailcloth strap too; I reckon it'll be good with a range of straps.

What made you go for the U50 instead of the U1? I had a UX before which was very wearable on a 7.25" wrist but then it was only 13.3mm thick.

I have little twiggy wrists, so the U50 is definitely the better size for me. But I never really looked at the U1 tbh, even though I quite like the blue version; from the start I quite fancied the small but solid tool watch aspect of the U50, to complement my bigger Oris (44mm case, 18mm height).

‘inspired’ as it were, by the chat earlier on related to the new Ranger I nipped in past the local authorised Tudor shop and had a look/feel of them in the metal. I was quite taken with the braceletted one.

On enquiring about availability I was advised 3-5 months if I pay up front. If I only put down a deposit then anyone ponying up full cost in advance would leap frog in the queue...

Whats normal (and how long before situation normalises as per, say, black bays)?

Asking for a friend (.

Near the start of this thread there's me pining for a Omega Speedmaster MK2, life changes so much, now have twins in childcare 3.5 days a week so that MK2 seems forever away!

But, with them in mind, and me not wanting to be pulling my phone out my pocket to check the time when I'm with them I've just grabbed this, which I feel like I've fallen onto a bandwagon with but does exactly the job I want it to (survive being covered in play sand etc) whilst looking decent

£50 S/H off Debop

Youpi, off to Paris for some watch boutique pervin'. Not sure I'll get in everywhere; I fell off my bike this morning (yes, the rain made the descents slippy) so am a bit bludded! The shops that don't bat an eyelid get my vote, the colour of my money is more important than the colour of my poor shredded knees.

Morning!

Well, I'm pleased to report that nowhere refused me entry despite my very dubious attire and blooded knee. My main AD says my Milgauss z-blue might come in this September and then we chatted for an hour about my latest horological perversions.

Then I dropped by JLC to see if they had the new Duoface Calendar in stock. They did...

https://www.watchuseek.com/attachments/20220805_160516-jpg.16810839 /" alt="" />

https://www.watchuseek.com/attachments/20220805_160630-jpg.16810840 /" alt="" />

The smokey blue sunray is outstanding but I was disappointed by the main dial. I found the day and month apertures a little too close for my taste, and I wasn't keen on the daylight blue used on the moon dial. The upside, at €16200 I wasn't going to buy it anyway! And I got a bottle of Perrier, double score.

That JLC is lovely, I must admit I find the white face the prettier of the two, love the date indicator window and hand.
There’s not many companies that can do a decent square / oblong watch face, JLC and maybe a Santos

I love this thread. In the space of an hour 4 very different pieces from both ends of the spectrum. Still deciding between a 5600 for authenticity, a 5610u as the most useful watch in the world (maybe) and a 6900-1 as a 5610 alternative with historic Navy Seal overtones, I’m setting myself the challenge of pulling the trigger on one of those by 1pm today.

Before that, it’s time for coffee and this weeks JOMW episode.

I am planning to pop into an Omega dealership tomorrow to see about trading in my Omega Seamaster 300 automatic 41mm.

My dad has asked me if he can get me something to remember him by and i thought it might be nice to upgrade this watch to a Speedmaster (new) and then give it to my son for his 20th which is in December.

I have looked on the shops website and tbh i think they are selling similar watches for anything upto £4k but that seems excessive. What kind of mark up do these places have on trade ins? 100%?

Just want to know a fair value so i can do some sums before going in

This would be a good example similar to mine

I love this thread. In the space of an hour 4 very different pieces from both ends of the spectrum.

I can do the other end too with my Omega.

Can you set Watchfinder and Chrono24 and the like to search private sellers only? To get a representation of secondhand value (without dealer markup?)

It something ive never tried to do.....

@gaidong lovely little JLC there, and i can appreciate the craftsmanship putting all the complications into such a little space. The Reverso is a watch ive never taken to TBH, probably because of its size and shape and id need better contacts to read the dial information.

The G-Shocks are cool as.... and massive! (Too big for my wrists)

That chrono24 site is good. Its unbelievable the differing conditions and prices though. Some are very poor condition and want £3k+. Makes me happy mine seems to tick most of the boxes, automatic, condition, box, and everything like new. I just know i am going into the shop and gonna be offered half these figures. If thats what its worth then fair enough. I suppose i could get a value and then see if i can sell it elsewhere.

Do Omega dealers ever do 'a deal' or are they more 'thats the price, take it or leave it'

Every Omega dealer ive used, and friend have used, have got between 10-20% off retail. Non High Street chains, but independant ADs. That was in the 2010-2020 range though.

I got 15% off my SMP300, and got my Speedmaster Triple Date half price (been languishing in store for a while and was in the sale)

Omega used to be easy to get 15-20% off but it's got much harder. Note impossible, but much harder. You should get a free strap or 5% easily enough but will have to be lucky or shop around for more.

The bond SMP 300, private sale, I'd say £2500-£2800 in good condition. Trade in, not sure but I suspect more then £1800 would be doing well. That's all a bit of a guess though.

Me too, love that this thread covers the bottom, the haute, and all the bits between! Not a fan of the jlc Reverso though. It just looks really old fashioned and old man's watch to me. In the same measure, g-shocks always leave me cold and the chunkier, more garish make me wrinkle my nose in dislike! Sorry! Each to their own though and thanks for sharing.

PS, modern SMP on the wrist and loving it!

Birthday next week. Tempted by

I have another of their watches bought impulsively in a sale a few years ago. Compared to many on here they are pretty low end but it's still £300 cheaper than upgrading my Fenix 6 to a 7 Sapphire or the new touch screen one.

I'm a sucker for a blue face and large numbers. Works well for me 'arms a bit short' eyesight as well.

Still I only wear my other one once a week or so. And I have a drawer full of assorted watches from a Ti Animal, a few g-shocks, a Tag from about 25 years ago and gawd only knows what else. I should dig them out and take a picture for your amusement 😉

Anyway still pondering.
