Still not quite right... https://www.esprit-nato.com/en/single-color-nato-watch-straps/262-831-fluo-green-g10-nato-strap-nylon.html#/28-width_lug_buckle-20_mm
That erebus is a miss for me. I like bits.... the sinn esque hands and bracelet and some of the funky colourways (the orange, the yellow). I don't like the oversize crown guards and I think I'd much prefer a better movement given the cost. Overall, it looks a bit like a pastiche of all the stuff he likes but don't go well together..... its homer Simpson's car.
@Neil, aha ahhahah!
Looking to replace my mid size OSP; looking at Longines Spirit Zulu. ny thoughts experiences?

thoughts<br /><br />
I really like those, had the green/gold one on my list until my heart fell for the SMP I had in hand.
Yes I think green and gold is my first choice. I always liked the Seiko Alpinist but never enough to pull the trigger. This might be the one. Quite like the black with blue accents too. Would be good to see them in the flesh.
@ivan, sweet, thanks!
Looking at those photos gaidong posted of the Montblanc, etc, where’s the actual day, there’s Friday, there’s Nov, but which Friday In November? Is confuddled.
I’m a big fan of clear, uncomplicated and easy to read dials, my SPORK being an example, or the Seiko MM300, possibly the best dial/hand combination of any Seiko diver, IMHO. So I was slightly disappointed when I spotted this browsing through Heinnie Haynes site the other day, and they were sold out.

Probably for the best, for the time being, but it’s less than £300, so not a bank-buster. And it’s an automatic. Just ticks a lot of boxes for me, as an alternative to wearing a diver all the time.
That Laco is lovely if it has some lume.
It's on laco's own site count. €340 + shipping
Had one of the miyota Laco’s years ago. It was nice and ultimately made me by a Stowa which was nicer
mind you I moved that on as well
There's a few Lacos I really like, the Squad watch I linked to earlier and also their modern pilot watch, the Frankfurt - not a great name that tbf.

Can we please talk about watches. Anything but consume and participate in other media.
Of course, I could also continue (re)reading Asimov. Would you wear a watch if you always had a robot with you?
Really good watch story on About Effing Time. It does include people being nice to each other as well as the watches - I hope that's OK?
And a watch question - my mother in law has been offered a vintage Omega by one of her friends who by all accounts is a bit of a collector. Assuming it's 1950s/60s how much would a service cost?
Depends but a standard 2 or 3 hander, with or without a date complication, manual or auto, should find a good independent that would get it running well for under £300. Which could well be about the cost of the watch.

I'm liking the look of this latest release from Baltic.
GP too dressy.

Breguet too yellow goldie but only tried for fun.

GO far too rose goldie but was only trying for size, which I like.

The Breguet looks a bit too nineteenth century carriage clock for me. Does it come with matching dueling pistols?
Just been let down after making massive efforts on a sale, including being patient enough to CASH A CHEQUE!!! It bounced and now he says he's not interested. #####
So...I'm sorry but I'm giving myself a lift by mentioning that there may a Samurai in the classifieds for a great price.
I'm having the same with mine on chrono24 Derek. "I'll buy it at this price" turns into "I'll ignore the offer and never contact you again". Had someone practically shout at me through the Messaging thing that my Seiko GMT was too expensive, only for him to have forgotten the conversation and make a higher bid on my watch again 3 days later.
One bloke in the US wanted the Glycine, but didnt want to pay the delivery costs. Why then ask about a UK based watch?
For the Zenith Chronomaster Sport fans ( @neilnevill ) here's their latest offering after last weeks pink, pink, you stink offering. What's the collective view? I think it's nicer than the ceramic bezel. Old school Daytona stylee...

It's nice but I much prefer the ceramic bezel. It's nice though
I think I prefer the ceramic as well, but if someone else is paying I’d not say no.
I'm in. I prefer metal bezels.
I like it, but it’s too close to my Aquaracer to buy. BTW my wife - surprisingly - liked the pink one, as a man’s watch.
Assuming it’s 1950s/60s how much would a service cost?<br /><br />
Deacon and Sons in Swindon, Marlborough and Royal Wootton Bassett charged me £465 for a service and replacement mainspring on my Yema Rallygraf, which I was ok with, it meant a lot to me. One sold at auction in London shortly after for £3800, so that made me even happier.
That Laco is lovely if it has some lume.
Everything white on the face and hands is lume, so perfectly legible after dark. Another reason I like it.
Evening chaps. I've been in Paris twice in a row this week! Sort-of-interview at the Sorbonne yesterday, Chinese visa today. You saw yesterday's watches but I shan't trouble you with all today's. Let's concentrate on JLC Master Control Moon, 37 vs 40. First up we have a 2006 model, serviced last year (so they say...) with box and papers.

And then the current model, 40mm, white dial only (as the LE blue is sold out, new at least). Price on these is now insane, over €17k. And I don't like white/silver dials usually.

If I can get away with the 37 then it's an option, in steel, white gold or even platinum.
I like the silver one a lot, very pretty watch.
I like the white dial 40mm
Same, white dial 40mm for me also.
Ha ha, well you're all welcome to it! €15400 UK RRP....
There are examples of the LE blue dial floating around, below RRP but I'm just not convinced by the dial layout, even if the solarised blue is very nice.

The steel 37mm offers black dial (as above) with sapphire case back on a pretty decent movement. However, in white gold 37mm there is a solarised grey option, which is tempting as I have mostly full black dials.

And then there is a LE platinum case blue dial 37mm, which is very yummy and I prefer to the current LE as it doesn't have the 'Quantième à date sautante' plastered on the dial.

Both the white gold and platinum versions (luxury yet discreet white metal for everyday use) have a hunter case back, which is pretty damn cool.

Ergo, the current model, standard and LE, are bonkers overpriced at RRP and even with 20% negotiated are ferocious for a steel watch. Going 37mm in steel or white gold would actually give me the opportunity to get a Master Moon AND a standard (time-only) Blancpain Fifty Fathoms titanium blue dial... The platinum version would, admittedly, eat the whole potential budget.
So, what do you reckon to the 37mm on my wrist and/or in the grey dial??? Help! (Luckily I leave on my round-the-world trip this Saturday and won't be able to do anything on this for a while...)
Sorry, that should be £15400 UK RRP, not used to the pound sign on an AZERTY keyboard!
Grey dial is too dark and very poor contrast with the moonphase. So thats a no from me......
Anyone got any tips on selling my watches? They are not going and I thought I’d priced keenly, so now I’ve a choice of flogging them cheaply on eBay or just keep an extended collection of items of which most I won’t wear again.
I appreciate some people have 10’s of watches in storage and barely wear most of them, but I’m too indecisive to have lots of watches in my peripheral vision. <br /><br />
what to do?
Not much in the toy department is selling at mo unless it’s v.cheap or something special. Watches, bike parts, motorbikes, cars, you name it. I buy and sell a lot on eBay and the like and I’ve hardly sold anything of late, very much a buyers market, hence picking up my Seamaster now for a good deal. I’d sit on them for now unless you really need rid to balance the books.
That hunter’s case is very nice . There’s something about the blue platinum face, I find a bit jarring - don’t know if it is just the picture. The jl motif a bit larger?
@SSS, the grey dial is here - https://www.chrono24.com/jaegerlecoultre/jaeger-lecoultre-master-control--id29320945.htm. An Italian dealer and I could try to do a straight swapsie for my Milgauss (now in the EU we have to think about a new tax on private sales, 6.5% of the total, whether you're in the black or not...).
@kilo, the blue dial Pt is on sale with Watchbox (also C24) https://www.chrono24.com/jaegerlecoultre/master-moon-q143648a--id30342985.htm, and they do tend to take quite stark images. The actual watch is in Hong Kong but they flight it to their nearest outlet.
But what do you think on fit? My Explorer 1 39mm is a perfect size for daily. 44mm Oris is a bit overwhelming but passable when casual. 37mm.... all depends on the lugs and thickness.
@kryton57, I don't know where the UK is on taxing private sales but if you can wait, just stick to your price. There is occasionally someone who bites.
My jlc moon is 39mm irc. It feels a wide watch but as it is slimmer than everything I usually wear (a thunderbird, a breitling or a seiko) it sort of balances out. I thnk 37mm would be fine
Thanks Kilo. The 40mm JLC is a lot thicker than the 37mm, so the wearing experience is very different. What a lot of time I waste thinking about all this... 😀
I thought youd be looking at a steel case version, and not precious metal case which i think youd mentioned before that you were shying away from gold/platinum.
Prefer the lighter dials such as silver, and id go for stainless. Cleaner crisper dial face and nicer contrast effect.
https://www.chrono24.co.uk/jaegerlecoultre/master-calendar-silver-dial-q1558420--id30317287.htm
I very nearly bought a new one, but got the Patek instead back in 2017.
As to size, thats a very personal thing, but if the photos show 37mm then id be happy with that sizing. I wear a mid size 36mm SMP, but i have very slim wrists.
Well, gold and platinum should be off the table but I'm a bit 'why not'. That said, I took an absolute soaking on the bike this morning, and I have wet wooden bridges = potential falls...
I see there was a 39mm steel Master Moon but only in a silver dial or.... a meteorite dial! That's pretty funky and I do very occasionally encounter Widmanstätten microstructures in my work. However, none on sale in Europe so far as I can see.
