OK, not the photo you wanted, but this is my Alpinist on the suede strap it usually lives on. 38mm.

Posted before, but no clue what page it'd be on now.

I really liked the Irish Coffee until I found out the UK price of it. Review by Jody:

So, NWD. I have an opinion, but before I do would welcome yours. I've deliberately used large pics so you can explore the detail. Bought with 20% discount at £151:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/kryton1957/52764051299/in/dateposted-public/

And the strap is quite good, double stitched, re-enforced holes, a little stiff from the box but still very comfortable with the whole watch being very light.

I'll await comments then post my own opinion.

Its a GM-2100c-5AER - this one. There are some Youtube reviews around of this new Utility series, there are three watches - this the Khaki, and Olive/Blue accent and a Black stealth version. On the GShock site, you can only seem to find them by clicking on "New" from the front page, then using the filter to "Octagon" shape.

For 20% off, use your mouse to select the whole model number top right (above UTILITY METAL), right mouse and "copy". Voila, a 20% code appears....

I like that Kryton.

Only G Shock delivers the tough, good looking utility watch.

I recently ordered the Timex Command Encounter SHOCK. I returned it as it was made of shit materials and the digital field was nothing like as clear and crisp as shown in the ad's. RRP is £135 too! I paid £108 but got a full refund. It'd be okay for £55-ish.

I'm not huge fan of g-shocks, I think the legibility is poor at best, the bulk makes them more likely to get knocked around or caught up on stuff and the buttons and controls are usually fiddly and unintuitive.

There's more than sufficient rugged enough watches around that the current obsession with needing a g-shock for anything more extreme than a cocktail party should just die a death.

Probably the unpopular take of the day!

No. Never seen the appeal of a g shock. They just...just.... No. I find it hard to sum up my feelings, but....just NO!

Thanks for the feedback. I didnt post my opinion because as you may have seen I bought this while being relieved of my inhibitions by several pints of Madri.

I have mixed feelings. I'm trying badly to get to a 5 watch collection from 14, this'd be watch 11. In summary I might have owned this as a collector "because its a Casioak" so in some peoples eyes it has a place in horology as the thinnest - I think - GShock with metal/carbon guard.

It's nice, does what it says on the Tin, light and I can see its good utility / pub watch for the summer evenings considering the strap. But I have 5 other 3 handers and a 5610u. One of them at least would need to go to keep this. Its a little piece of relatively inexpensive horology that might have a place in some collections, but I'm unsure if it replaces anything I have - maybe a 3 hander AND the 5610u as it covers both bases albeit loses solar - I remain confused. A decent watch - if you didnt have another - and I wasn't using a Fenix as a weekend utility. Vis a Vis - when am I going to wear it?

FWIW, I think I'd feel the same if I bought a Moonswatch, I think they might just be OK fashion/of the moment watches.

I like a G-Shock but find I buy one and never wear it, like my Casioak.   Saying that I'd like a 5610u, but know I'll probably never wear it.

Tend to wear my Apple Watch at work and exercise, and my nice watches outside of work

Decided to send it back. I feel like I’ve somehow failed vs all of the praise it gets and after watching positive review after positive review I can’t work out why.

It could be because it’s very light and therefore doesn’t feel substantial, like a toy watch maybe. Odd.

Odd indeed - but I’m thinking most people don’t have 5 or 11 watches. It’s hard to justify a G Shock amongst so many others.

I’d happily have a G Shock for day to day and an Explorer for the weekend. That’d be my two, and done.

But I’ve got the running/biking watch as well. The vintage. The moonswatch, the diver and the chrono. And I feel bad if they don’t all get a run out!

I like a G-Shock too, which is why I have 4 of them.

Found myself idly looking at a Suunto Core this morning.

Last night I searched the YouTube back catalogue for a bad review to try to find something that correlates. I found one moan - that it’s that light at 71g is it really metal or some plastic-metal coating? It seems almost everyone but me loves them! I can’t even understand why I’d rather keep the 5610 than this. I’m really perplexed and because I don’t understand why it’s making me very indecisive.

This morning I put on my Chris Ward - fabric strap, light, raised light catching indices - for my closest comparison - it feels better in every way.

My only thought now is do I keep it as a holiday watch, for fear of losing a good one to missing baggage or theft. I do like to take a nice watch for dinners etc though.

I spend a lot of time lurking various watch social media and this

might have owned this as a collector “because its a Casioak” so in some peoples eyes it has a place in horology

is the sort of thing I find really annoying. It's the reason there are so many identikit SOTC posts.

Wow, you've got a sub, a speedy and a g-shock - what possibly made you consider that such an original combination!? And an fw-91 for faux-humility? Groundbreaking!

There seems to be a massive venn overlap between people with enough money to buy the tick box collection and people without the imagination to buy anything else.

Mate, do you even chronograph? Everyone knows it’s a DW290 for faux-humility 😉

This will sound weird, bit I've just added a new dimension. To avoid a crease in the strap in case of return I've been wearing it loose. After watching a few videos (again) this morning, I've got it out of its box / wrapping (for the 3rd time) and swapped it with the CW this time one hole tighter so it doesn't move on my wrist.

Its a remarkable difference in how it feels, I'll report back in a few hours, because I'm fairly certain by now my posts on this matter are handy for people wanting to nod off for a couple of minutes....

Anyone else seen the Rolex teaser video of their new Releases, yours to see (but probably hard to buy) at watches and wonders? I don't get they excited by the watches teased as I'm always wrong, but I quite like the silly game of guess the watch.

Don't take this the wrong way but I'm reading them in the hope that you'll report getting some fun out of a watch some day! Let's be honest, nobody needs them these days, we have them because we like them.
I still get some wear out of my Armitron (bought on impulse but never regretted), and every time I have to use 2 hands to get it to display its ridiculously huge and bright LEDs on its needlessly bulky head it makes me smile even as I'm thinking "well, this is silly".

Not a fan of it, don’t get me wrong looks ok, but not for me and I’m a big fan of g shocks. Your posts sound like you wanted the big money watch, had a last minute wobble, bought something random-ish in a classic late night spirited impulse, that isn’t quite hitting the right notes for you. I get the I’d like a new watch emotion. Sadly. But get the one you really wanted. Nothing else looks like it’ll do.

On g shocks, I used to wear one all the time, can’t remember which model, but pre garmin fenix watches a classic g shock was my go to beater watch that refused to die. Now I’d reach for my fenix 6x, which gets a lot of wear time. I think the world has moved on from g shocks.

My holiday watch is always my Orange monster. Makes me smile every time I wear it. It’s battered, still works the same as it did on day one and is obviously unashamedly an orange seiko. That g shock even as a holiday watch would not make me feel good in the same way. Just my 2 cents.

Nice Rolex video btw. Very smooth.

@walwiz - thanks.

Your comments about your Fenix are appropriate because I've just put 6pro on, where it will remain all weekend. I'm confident this is my weekend beater because as I'm on the bike twice a weekend there's no point taking it off unless a social occasion calls.

I think the world has moved on from g shocks.

You may be right, I watched a video of the "future-oak" today which looked like it wasn't sure if it should be in a batman film Argos, catalogue or the 1990's.

I'm having some CBT at the moment which although for Flying issues is dealing with my inherent "intolerance of uncertainty" (which'll bring sense to a lot of my posts). This weeks exercise is that the Casioak is either on my wrist or in the post by the next session - Thursday afternoon. I can tell you now its boxed up ready to go.

I've enjoyed wearing my C65 super compressor all day:

Back to straps again.... Stevostraps are closed for March

Can anyone recommend a leather strap supplier? I'm looking for a 20mm dark green or teal blue, preferably nubuck/suede in style

Postie just dropped this off, put a cheeky bid on it on the ‘bay. I like it, looks better than I thought it would.

Got one more watch I’m looking for then that’s it for a while!
