Can't believe I'm asking about washing machines on here but what the hell, here goes!

We have a very aged Indesit washer that tbh, whilst not ever having had a thing go wrong with it, doesn't actually seem to wash clothes all that well anymore, if indeed it ever did!

We have been offered a near new Miele machine for very little money and basically I'm asking if the Miele is likely to make a better job of washing or is it just same same no different but with more functions etc. and I won't see any improvement for the 'upgrade'. The Miele was originally around £1200 so is one of the higher end domestic models with a honeycomb drum (whatever one of those is)

Is it worth bothering with or should we just keep the old warrior? ta muchly.

OK, my experience. I've been a Miele fan for donkey's years and in my previous life, their appliances were extremely reliable. However, I now have both Miele washing machine and fridge/freezer bought 4 years ago. Both of these appliances have required the services of a Miele engineer. 🙁

The washing machine (with honeycomb drum) required a new element due to limescale and considering I live on my own, it's hardly had that much use!

Conclusion: Miele are not what they were, ie 10 years ago better quality, and, in fact, when it came to buying a dishwasher I bought a different brand.

You're likely to save on running costs, providing you don't need to call out the engineer.

Have you tried cleaning out your current washing machine? The can clog up with soap sludge / scum. White Wine Vinegar in the drum and every draw orifice and put it on a boil wash.

Footflaps that's not a bad idea actually, not sure it's ever been cleaned out thinking back!

Thanks all.

Miele do say that apart from not overdosing on detergent, the machine should fairly regularly go through a 60 degree cycle. In addition, due to living in a hard water area, engineer sold me some descaling powder to use on a 95 degree wash cycle.

Of course the rubber door seal is a breeding ground for gunk! 😳
